The Hawks have not made decisions on restricted free agents Jeff Teague or Ivan Johnson.

GM Danny Ferry eschewed the question by saying "nothing to really say about it," and both players will have their status reevaluated after the draft. "I think we'll get through the draft and then we'll work through the decisions we have to make from there," he said. Teague will all but certainly get a qualifying offer and has a good shot to be re-signed, but Johnson's future is less certain.

We haven't talked much about Ivan. IMO, he was our best post defender and Drew had no clue how to use him. But he wasn't very consistent on offense. I can see it going either way since he's just a reserve.

Damn, guess CP is going to Clips. Man, we could have high caliber team by adding DH and CP. It's not over til it's over but more likely we're best to rebuild. Build around Horford?

I believe Horford is involved in the plans, but not built around. With is more like it. We might see what is there in the trade market, maybe find a potential star player who is having team issues (Cousins), something along those lines, while we still find players through the draft.

With or without Horford, we could still tank for a hopeful #1 draft selection, get someone like Wiggins and then have a good core to build around.

I'll co-sign. If Al is in the plans it's building with him, not around him. He's a good player, I just don't think you can build a good team around him as the best player. You and I have talked about John Wall for the last 2 years. If CP3 is staying. John would be number 1 on my wish list. The problem is that would likely cost us Horford in trade.

Draft wise I like Plumlee. I've liked Plumlee since he was a freshman. Now that he has developed his game more, I definitely like him now. Not too often you run across a 7'0" that is as athletic as Plumlee. He's played four years against some of the best competition in college hoops. He's battled tested and playing four years for Coach K, I trust his BBIQ is where it needs to be. I just can't give my stamp of approval of a lot of these foreign guys I've never seen play a second of ball..

As much as I hate hate HATE Duke players, there's no denying Plumlee is a beast and I agree with everything u just said 100%. him and Horford would work great together, possibly get Horford at the 4 where he should be. I've never been too high on the foreign players, and a lot of mocks I see have us taking Olynyk from gonzaga, I'd rather have Plumlee than him.


I just wish we could've gotten CP & DH but instead we'll do what we always do, spend money on mediocre players to save face and we'll stay in nba purgatory for years to come...

Anyone think josh will go to LA? Either lakers or clippers? Houston has the money but I doubt it. if Dwight stays a Laker (since the clips would have to sign n trade and I don't see them giving up Blake) I could see Josh there with him holding it down til Kobe is back healthy... Its not life we're trading for Paul and Howard. We.can throw all the marbles at them. If they rather team up somewhere else instead of ATL, thats no ones fault. We can't make them sign. We cant have the prefect player at every opening in the starting 5, so whatever players we sign will have a downside to them. So whoever passes up Al Jeff because of his weak defense, Oj Mayo because of his inconsistent play, or Monta ellis because he shoots first is obviously hoping for Kobe or Derrick Rose to join us. There are no complete players on the market. We can still build a very good team with Teague and Horford as the corner stones.

17. Atlanta Hawks: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Greece, 6'9'', PG/SF




With two first-round picks, the Hawks should look to make a splash with one and play it safe with the other.

Consider Giannis Antetokounmpo their splash pick, a prospect who offers loads of upside as a 6'9'' ball-handler. He's also a draft-and-stash candidate, which means Atlanta can save some money for their free-agent efforts.

Antetokounmpo recently drew a crowd in Italy when he suited up for Greece's Under-20 national team just a short drive from Adidas Eurocamp. His ability to create off the dribble for a wing his size has captivated those searching for the next big thing.

Over the past few months, the upside he's flashed has generated a lot of attention from the NBA folks. He's not ready, but Antetokounmpo has unique upside if he's ever able to reach it.

18. Atlanta Hawks (via Houston): Mason Plumlee, Duke, 7'0'', C

If the Hawks can grab an upside pick at No. 17, they should look to grab a guaranteed contributor at No 18.

Mason Plumlee is one of the surer bets in the class and fills a need for Atlanta's shallow frontcourt.

At 7'0'', he's a strong rebounder and play-finisher above the rim off lobs, dump-offs or tip-ins.

Plumlee isn't much of a one-on-one threat, but he's a guy who can make plays off the ball without having his number called.

If the draft falls like this, I'll be okay with it.

Just to play along though and give some of the Howard/Smith fans some hope, maybe Rondo can be had for Horford.

Honestly, if we are tanking. I would tank with Horford on the team than without him. If we get Wiggins, with Horford would be a great rebuilding duo. Without him, we would then just have Wiggins and be in a situation that guys like Irving, Love, and any other star rookie has been in with no help on a rebuilding team.

I've read and posted plenty about Josh and DH's friendship and about Josh and Rondo's friendship, However I have not read anything about Rondo and DH. Not saying they aren't tight, I jaust haven't seen anything about it. However very interesting angle. IMHO in order to pull the trigger on that trade since it would likely cost you AL and you are trading for someone who is injured, I would need DH and Smith to commit before I pulled the trigger. From a Boston point of view, They should jump all over sending Rondo and a 1rst round pick for Horford. I don't know that we could get a deal done not involving Al being that we have plenty of cap space but nothing else.

We are in agreement. That pick that came along with Rondo would have to be un-protected for me as well. As for Boston that would be a good start to a re-building team. Horford and Green at the 3 and 4 along with Avery at the 1 or 2.

Just read about them and was about to post it myself.

The Atlanta Hawks are dangling their two first-round picks for trade in hopes of moving up in Thursday's NBA draft, possibly as high as the top five, sources tell Yahoo! Sports. While I think Shabazz is a no-brainer at 17, If we are able to get into the top 5 Ben or Noel (depending on if they are still on the board) are the guys I would want! Shabazz or MCW wouldn't be bad though. Exciting news either way.

I would even pick Shabazz if we move up to about 10. In the top 5, Noel if he is there, I like Oladipo as well. Oladipo could be a great high energy guy on a Spurs-like vision team along with Horford. Next year's draft could get us the star to go along those 2.

As much as I like Teague (and believe he will atleast be our PG 1 more year), I believe we need to find an upgrade if there is a star to be had at the PG position in the 2014 draft (if we miss out on the top prospects).
