The Tigers have agreed to terms with first-round pick Spencer Torkelson, according to MLB.com's Jim Callis.

Torkelson is getting $8,416,300, which is exactly $1,000 more than his slot value as the first overall pick in the draft. As Callis points out, this makes Torkelson the first No. 1 overall pick to actually sign at or above slot value since that "feature" was introduced in 2012. Torkelson is expected to begin his pro career at third base, even though he was primarily a first baseman in college.

feels like the Tigers way to use 3B as "doesn't really matter what position you play, we need your bat so play third"

    From Rotoworld:

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Tigers are not engaging in trade talks regarding second baseman Jonathan Schoop.
This means that the Tigers don't appear to be sellers. They are 16-16 at the moment, just two games behind the Blue Jays for the final playoff spot in the American League. Schoop, an impending free agent, is slashing .296/.336/.504 with seven home runs, 18 RBI, and 18 runs scored over 30 games this season.

Guess we will not be doing anything today.

    meant to post here.

so, it just me or are the Tigers half decent this year? 12 games is too small to judge...but I really like what I've seen.

Depends on how Mize, Skubal, and Baddoo develop. If they are good then we are probably around 5 games under .500.

I'd be VERY happy with that. I was thinking somewhere in the 70s in terms of wins...

still early, but the fact our young guns are looking like big time busts isn't a good thing. This could be another 5 years of rebuilding if those pitchers bust.

I agree with a lot of his frustration.

The nerd part maybe not so much but frustration with Avila is very valid.

Grossman to the Braves, we get Kris Anglin back, a 2021 16th round pick, not ranked in their system by anyone

    meh better than nothing

also, we DFA'd Derek Hill, that one surprised me

Getting anything for a player who wasn't coming back? Fine with me.

Same thing with Fulmer, traded him to the Twins (who we played today, and he was in uniform with them)

Got a guy picked in the 6th round in 2019 in return

Aside from Big Mig, Fulmer was the longest tenured Tiger, and brings back memories of "trade Fulmer" from like 5 years ago

the next prospect clamored for a callup is Kerry Carpenter, I don't know a damn thing about this guy but apparently he's been mashing
