As 14 said, they beat them with forechecking. Very aggressive, offensive zone forechecking that lead to turnovers. Maybe at the tail end of a few games they dropped back in the neutral zone, but for the most part they were attacking the Flyers in their own end.

The Devils used a hybrid system that combined a hard forecheck with an aggressive trap that forechecked hard and forced turnovers to the high forward or the defenders who were aggressively placed in right around the red line.

Speedy devils forecheckers + poor outlet passes from PHI defense + inability of PHI wings/d-men to create space = turnovers = goals against. It was a simple formula that the Devils executed to perfection.

It's actually pretty interesting that we appear to struggle the most against the teams that play the same way that we are SUPPOSED to play. In watching the games it seems the book on playing against us is high puck pressure......whether its 5v5 or PK....other teams seem to be pressuring the puck hard and we can't figure out a way to handle it. That's what our system was supposed to be, only other teams seem to be executing it better than us. Either that or we don't have the talent to move the puck like it needs to in order to defeat that style.

it's just looking more and more like we don't have the players to fit Lavy's system, honestly.

no other way i can really explain this inconsistency. it's either lack of effort in inability to play the system at this point. it's not a lack of talent.
