    The Free Calderon Campaign!

It's pretty clear that with the addition of Lowry (who is playing great so far this season and is frankly one of the best bargains in the NBA), Jose Caleron is not in the Raptor's forseeable future, and he has an expiring contract. So the Raptors, who may need Calderon for the next couple of games since Lowry is out with an ankle sprain, are in an interesting situation. They have a 10 million dollar expiring contract! Calderon will likely want to win something before his career is over, so unless the Raptors are willing to overpay for a back-up PG (which I wouldn't put past Coangleo), they will likely lose Calderon for nothing in the offseason, so moving him now for something would be a good idea, and it would potentially allow Calderon, who has one of the best assist-to-turnover ratios in the league, and he is also a great shooter (though not so great on defense, even if he has improved), to contribute to a contender now, and not have to wait until the offseason.

So... it's time to start working out a trade for Calderon. the question is, who needs him?

One of the best options would be LAL. He can't drive the ball the way Nash does, but every other aspect of their game is nearly identical, even the fact that they can't play defense. What can LAL offer? Blake is making 4 mill this and next season, and Duhon is making 3.5 mill or so, the two together are enough salary to match, and both only have two years left on their contracts, though Toronto might not want to take on that much, but trading one of the two may be an option afterwards and leave them with an affordable back-up PG. LAL may have to throw in a draft pick to make it worth Toronto's while, but that pick won't be for any time in the next couple season since they already gave up picks in the Steve Nash deal. And LAL could use him NOW!!!!

Miami: Calderon can't play D the way they like, but I'm sure LBJ can light a fire under Calderon's @$ and motivate him. Having a shooter like Calderon would be great for Miami, and he can handle the ball when Wade and LBJ are on the bench. Trading for Calderon might be more problematic for Miami though as they really don't have two contracts that Toronto would want to take back.

OCK: I think the Thunder would be a great landing spot for Calderon. He'd be an upgrade from what they have coming off the bench, and he's a great distributor, which OKC could use when Westbrook is on the bench (if Calderon can set up Bargnani and DeRozen, I'm sure he'd LOVE to have Durant and Martin to pass to). Maynor and Sefolosha might be a good enough package. I know Sefolosha is a great fit in OKC, but with Martin already playing so well with the roster, and Lamb being as young as he is and having as much potential, the Thunder might be better off to make some more room for their SG.

Who do you guys think could use Calderon and what can teams offer in order to get this done?
Why did the chicken cross the basketball court?
Because he heard the refs were blowing fowls.

Why the **** would they trade him for Steve Blake and Duhon? Is this real life?

You need to look at it from the Raptors point of view. A young player + picks would make sense. Trading for scrubs like Duhon + Blake to send Calderon to a "contender" does not help them.

You are absolutely right. I was primary trying to get contracts to match and leave TO with an affordable option as a back up PG. I figure they would move one of the two to a team that needs a back-up PG.

Toronto is not going to be getting much back from any team unless they can find a team that is trying to dump a contract for an expiring (which may happen as the season progresses).

Calderon is worth a 1st, so unless a pick of decent value (top 22ish) is coming back our way, we shouldn't be interested.
