    Giants Extend Bumgarner

5 year extension that starts next season with a club/vesting option for 2018 and a club option for 2019.

Good job Sabean, very smart choice.

Over the next five years, Bumgarner will earn 35 million, if he qualifies for Super 2 after 2012, it is raised to 40 million.

I don't know how his option years look with this though.

Very smart extension, I can see him becoming a top 10 pitcher in the game as soon as this year. All they need to do now is lock up Timmy. That won't be as easy as it looks, though. He'll want a lottttt of money

You must have missed Game 4 of 2010 world series when he pitched against The Rangers at their park

Giants signed LHP Madison Bumgarner to a five-year, $35 million contract extension with options for 2018 and 2019.
The guaranteed value of the deal will be bumped to $40 million if Bumgarner qualifies for Super Two status. The 22-year-old southpaw registered a sparkling 3.21 ERA and 191/46 K/BB ratio across 204 2/3 innings last season and should -- along with Matt Cain and perhaps Tim Lincecum -- provide stability over the next several years in the San Francisco rotation. This is the largest sum of money ever committed to a player with one-plus year of service time.
Great news and what I have wanted to hear all offseason! This is going to save the Giants millions of dollars and will help them budget in Lincecum if they do decide to re-sign him.

It really is true, no pitcher will ever again reach free agency.

^ no ace at least, which means the aces that do reach free agency will be paid an absolute ***-ton.

As a player, you want to get as close to arb as you can if you want to earn the most you can potentially throughout your career.

But security is far more important than getting that extra millions in the end.

    Especially with pitchers injury likelihood

Actually, his awful defense hurt him last year.

He was a top 10 pitcher last year, NLW or not.

Damn good move by the Giants. It's a smart trend by teams but, sucks for the market.
