So, what is the actual truth to this rumor going around that Beckett, Lester, Lackey, and Tek formed a "clique" and they weren't really well received with the rest of their team? If this is true, you cut Lackey and let Varitek go, and then I'd throw the C on Pedroia chest because he earned it and because it's a nice **** you to Varitek.

But the Sox won't be bold this offseason. All the bums like Lackey will return.

IMO, he is severely overrated as a GM, and consistently misses on not only "big name" free agents (see Dice-K, Drew, Crawford, Lackey, Renteria, Lugo, etc etc etc), but also the low risk free agents (see Colon, David Wells, Wheeler, Jenks, etc etc etc)
Why do people constantly list Drew as some terrible signing?

Because people are dumb. Drew was a solid addition for four years. I do not regret that one bit.

David Wells was also perfectly average for the money spent.

If the White Sox have designs on making Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona their successor to Ozzie Guillen, one important door has been opened.

Francona has had enough of his eroding Boston experience, a *major-league source said, and will ask the club not to exercise the option on his contract.

“He has had his fill of the whole thing,’’ the source told the Sun-Times.

Obviously a lot depends on who replaces him. But by the sounds of it some "freshness" might be needed in the clubhouse along with motivation. Maybe the new manager can create a sense of urgency instead of the complacency I began to see out of the team.
