The Heat Need Wade AND LeBron To Score, Bench Doesn't Matter At All

We all know LeBron had a sub-par performance last night, but instead of doing the obvious and hating on him, the performance actually proved how important James is to the team.

I've heard this generic statement so many times before,

"The Heat are in a special position with Wade and LeBron, where, if one of them has a bad night, the other can pick up the slack."

Last night was a clear cut example of how a statement like this is untrue.

When LeBron and Wade both signed with the Heat last year, most of the sports world knew that their bench would be weak because they used all their cap on the bigger name players (James, Wade, Bosh, Miller). After this they only had a finite amount of money to use on supplemental players. This lead to relative unknown or older athletes being on their bench (Anthony, Dampier, Howard, House), but at the time it was hard to discredit the Heat because they had the biggest names in the game on their team.

Now we know how it can hurt them. When a player, such as LeBron James, doesn't put up the numbers he is expected to, where can the Heat go to make up for it? Every other player on that team is nowhere near as good as James, or make the plays that he can make.

Wade is desperately trying to make up for LeBron, and he is having some 2006 Finals efforts because of it. The man is averaging around 30 points a game for a team that has been averaging 89. That means that Wade's points are accounting for a little more than 1/3 of the teams points.

Wade is doing what he needs to do to win another championship, but he can't win a championship on his own. Everybody who has in the past had at least one sidekick/partner that propelled them to a championship, heck Wade even had (a still really good) Shaq and Haslem in the 06 Finals.

Knowing this, LeBron can obviously, and should have been already, helping out the Heat in this way. We have already viewed his brilliance in this years playoffs numerous times, and that's why it's harder to understand the disappearance act he put on recently.

The way the Mavericks have also put on a great display of defense never before seen from them, have made LeBron that much more important. As horrific as he looked in game 4, he will be one of the only 2 or 3 players on the floor that can shred the Mavs defense no matter what.

All this criticism of LeBron is going to be so beneficial for him, because at the end of the day, he just needs a little fuel, and he can burn anyone in the NBA. In game 5 on Thursday night, look for him to score at least 30, maybe more.

    What do you think?

Disagree... HEAT beat Boston and Chicago on Lebron's back.

HEAT can win with just one...but can't win with neither. HEAT lost last night b/c BOTH Lebron and Wade were not aggressive down the stretch. Lebron sucked the whole game...but down the stretch, Wade was equally passive. If either one is aggressive the HEAT can win almost any game.

The Heat need two of the three. If all three play well they'll never lose. But they need at least 2/3. It didn't wok out for them in game 4, but only barely.

I said it all year its rear you see two great top 5 back court players playing together. There is only one ball between players that shines with the ball. For most of the year all they did was take turns during games often putting Bosh on the side. They need Bosh inside so he will get his in the playoffs so now its between Wade and Lebron. It was Lebron turn against the Bulls now its Wades turn. Its not like ha was 2 for 30 he just did not shoot the ball, all can't shoot 30 times. Very rear did all three shine at the same time. Its not that Lebron is in a slump he is just playing the Pippen role. I guess he respects its Wades team and don't want to cause friction.

actually, their bench is the most important part. last night will never happen again. lebron has had maybe 2 bad games all year. we need 1 guy to come off the bench and just be able to hit shots. james jones has got to be hurt, mike miller is playing with 2 stubs for hands, and mario chalmers is not consistent. when 1 of them steps up we win, simple as that. we just need another option behind the big 3 that can give us a few points.

They need the bench, but the only game LeBron and Wade were good together in the 4th quarter was in game 1 where they won. That was also the largest margin of victory in this series. If they play well together down the stretch, they should win this series. LeBron needs to get his **** together and go back to Boston/Chicago series Lebron.
