Tom Thibodeau to be named COY

Tom Thibodeau of the Chicago Bulls will be named the 2011 NBA Coach of the Year during a Sunday afternoon news conference, reports K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune. The Bulls and NBA have announced a major award presentation for 4:30 p.m. ET at the Berto Center in Chicago. Early reports suggested either Thibodeau or Derrick Rose could be the honoree, but Rose's assumed MVP presentation will have to wait.

Thibodeau led the Bulls to a 62-20 record in his first season as a head coach at the NBA level, a 21-game improvement over last season. Thibodeau currently has the best winning percentage of any coach in NBA history at .756, better than Phil Jackson's previous record of .704.

The Thibodeau announcement should come at halftime of Game 1 of the Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics series on Sunday. The Bulls tip off their second-round series against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.

    Obvious choice imo.

If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.

Couldn't go wrong with him or Collins but I personally think Collins should have won it.

CHI added an all-star 20/10 PF and the deadliest 3 point shooter in the league in Korver. Those were their two weak points last year. That combined with an improved and maturing Derrick Rose...well I think just about any coach would win 55+ with that team and I called it before the season.

PHI on the other hand was supposed to be a lottery team, yet they were actually one of the better teams in the east after the 3-13 start. I think Collins changed the culture there and squeezed every bit he could out of that team.

They prolly wouldn't of had the defense they did without him.

Well Deserved. Thibodeau completly changed the bulls defense. 62 wins as a rookie coach, without a doubt, he was the best coach. Congrats!

Guess some credit should go out to derrick rose, and John paxon who made offseason moves to build a contender.
