Knicks Fined $200K for Illegal Workouts

Can't believe this is all the NBA did. I thought they would at least take away draft picks or something
The NBA gave the Knicks a very light slap on the wrist for illegal workcouts one of their scouts ran during the Isiah Thomas Regime. From the NY Times: “The N.B.A. has fined the Knicks $200,000 and one of their scouts $20,000 after concluding that the scout, Rodney Heard, conducted workouts of college prospects that violated league rules, according to two people made aware of the league’s actions. The Knicks were notified of the punishment Wednesday. The fines are expected to be announced later Thursday afternoon. The punishments stem from workouts conducted by Heard in Atlanta in May 2007 and May 2010. Heard, who has been with the club since 2006, was promoted to East Coast scouting director in 2008. The punishment is generally in line with previous cases that involved violations of draft workout rules, although some team executives had expected the Knicks to be forced to forfeit future draft picks as part of any punishment. The Knicks hold the option of imposing further discipline on Heard, who joined the organization when Isiah Thomas was the team president.”

"he punishment is generally in line with previous cases that involved violations of draft workout rules.."

Also does anyone know what the violations were specifically?
I dont think a workout should greatly hinder the future of a franchise(loss of draft picks), assuming nothing god awful happened.

Adrian Wojo from Yahoo broke the news and explained it all. From what I remember they illegally worked out players way before they were suppose to and lied about it and kareem rush was injured and rush lied and said he didnt work out for the knicks and so on and so on. there was more to it, but I dont remember the exact specifics. I gotta google his article and re-read it again.

I dont think stern wants to hurt the knicks because of the market.

this is a good example of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mN3OGRGybA

So penalize a new regime (Walsh) by taking away his draft picks for what the old corrupted regime (Isiah) did. Riiiiight....

$200k is a lot of money.

The knicks suffered enough because of Thomas, they should of charged him. Better yet they should of banned Thomas from ever coming close to the knicks ever again...

200k is nothing for dolan and they didnt even fire the scout who worked these guys out. the punishment was a joke. at least have the knicks have nothing to do with thomas again or something if your gonna let them off this easy and fire that scout as well.

    Sounds like a deal.
... yet Dolan and Isiah are going to be engaged soon, sorry but it was a valid attempt.

Except the Knicks did this in 2010 as well, so it's not just Isiah Thomas.

He was watching his ratings take a dive because of a fool named Dolan.

David Stern is protecting us from him. Made him get rid of Zeke and hire Walsh and now slaps us on the wrist. Stern needs the Knicks. Love em or hate em a good Knicks team is good for the League.
