Heard this: The Red Sox have agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal with Bobby Jenks.
Bobby Jenks is changing his Sox from white to red.

The former Chicago White Sox closer agreed to a two-year, $12 million with the Boston Red Sox, pending a physical, a source told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

The Red Sox still have work to do this winter, but spring will be here before you know it! Red Sox blog

Jenks has been told he'll be a set-up man in 2011 and will have a chance to be the closer after Jonathan Papelbon is replaced, the source said.

The Red Sox had earlier made a run at closer Mariano Rivera and were ready to non-tender Papelbon if they signed him, a source had told ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes. But when Rivera re-signed with the New York Yankees, the Red Sox tendered a contract to Papelbon, who was paid $9.35 million last season and is arbitration-eligible, which will drive his salary into eight figures.

Papelbon is a year away from free agency.

Jenks became a free agent when he was non-tendered by the White Sox earlier this month.

The move had been expected since Jenks struggled with injuries that affected his performance in the second half of 2010. Jenks, who made $7.5 million last season, was in his last year of being arbitration eligible. He could have received an arbitration award in the neighborhood of $9 million in 2011.

Jenks saved 27 games for the White Sox last season but posted a career-worst 4.44 ERA in 52 2/3 innings.

    That's huge and much needed.

Now sign Wheeler and re-sign Miller and call it day.

Yes!!!!!! A proven reliever; I was worried for a moment that the pen would be stockpiled with mediocre budget arms. Very nice. It's probably an expensive one year-deal.

I don't know what to say, but I like him, I doubt it's an expensive deal considering how Theo goes about his business when it comes to relievers.

He was a dominant closer just two years ago, he's got good control and can strike guys out. Would be a good pickup.

Apparently it's official according to Buster Olney! Of course like any other signing, it's pending a physical.

    Props for the sig!

Got to wonder if Paps is the next shoe to drop...

I could see Theo having a trade lined up shipping him out.

That is a great signing and great contract considering what the relief market has been this year. Theo

See ya Papelbon. Bring on Fuentes and this would be the best offseason ever.

keep hearing #redsox open to trading papelbon. of course, being a 5-yr arb eligible closer off down yr, value is miniscule

With Jenks and Papelbon's personalities, do we have an early contender for most obnoxious bullpen of the year?
