Sox still in on Brian Fuentes

    http://www.boston.com/sports/basebal..._sox_land.html
this is about jenks but look at the the 2nd pargraph, last sentence
@Buster_ESPN Heard this: Brian Fuentes is looking for a Scott Downs kind of deal -- the range of three years, $15 million
I think we should do this. I think unlike Downs, Fuentes is worth this because he was the better player last year.

and check his era vs the yankees in the playoffs

"Sox still in Brian Fuentes" LMAO! I didn't know Fuentes hit for that team...

In all seriousness, I would like to add Fuentes, but I'm not sure he's worth the 3-yr/$15 M that he's asking for, especially if we're giving Jenks $6M/yr.

Risky signing a 3 year deal on Fuentes, he's 35 years old as it is.

Closer's money for an injury-risk set up man would be tough reasoning.. He was ridiculously good last year, but he's still a risk. Not gonna lie and say I wouldn't want him though..

I definitely don't want him on a 3 year deal. Let the market play out a little bit for him and see if he comes closer to our terms.

If we are able to add both Jenks and Fuentes that's really great for our pen. That being said I hope Theo doesn't give him a bad deal.

Joe Beimel is definitely a more interesting option in terms of $/years

Please don't try and talk down to me like your such an intelligent poster.

First of all, Wheeler is a RH reliever. What do Wakefield, Atchison, Jenks, Bard & Papelbon have in common with Wheeler? They are all righties, which means we have more need for a lefty due to Doubront being the only lefty out of our bullpen right now. Beimel is a lefty, he is a lefty-specialist & that is something we are clearly in need of.

I'd rather give Beimel a 1 year deal for less money and a 2nd year vesting option instead of overpaying Fuentes for 3 years to do the same thing, come in and take care of lefties.

A 3 year deal for Fuentes is a recipe for disaster.

The big difference in signing Fuentes is that he could certainly compete with Jenks and Bard for the closer role as Pap is now a goner past 11' if he isn't traded before. Three solid options may be worth the price but it is much more likely that offer will be for two years the same as Guerrier. If no one looks at him as a closer he could fall to the sox.

Honestly, I don't even really want him on a 2 year deal. I'm with AI on this one, go after Beimel. He'll be cheaper and likely won't require a multi-year commitment.
