Kobe Laughs Off Shaq's Slam Dunk Suggestion

    http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angele...ory?id=4846702

CLEVELAND -- Kobe Bryant is taking a pass on the slam dunk contest, no matter what Shaquille O'Neal has in mind.

    Bryant

Bryant nearly burst out laughing Thursday when asked about O'Neal's idea that the Lakers superstar should appear in next month's All-Star weekend dunk event with LeBron James and Vince Carter.

O'Neal suggested the star-studded field as a way of luring James, who is skipping the dunkathon after initially saying he was in.

Bryant won the dunking crown when he was a rookie. He says players should not feel a responsibility toward entering the contest as a way of giving back to the league. James has been criticized for backing out. Bryant would like to see the MVP take part.

"Responsibility? No," Bryant said following the Lakers' shootaround. "People want to see it, so it's good to do it at least one time in your career. It's fun."

The contest is Feb. 13 in Dallas, and Bryant has been giving tips to Los Angeles teammate Shannon Brown. Does Bryant think James would win?

"I think he would come in a close second behind Shannon Brown," he said.

Way to represent ur boy there Mamba!

I agree that it's crazy...but I do not like the lack of star power.

woulda been much more amazing to see.

Kobe is still a threat at the rim.

    Lebron is Lebron

And of course, if VC wasn't injured, you will see something amazing. 32 year old windmill alley-oop man.

I'd like to see a Wade vs LBJ dunk contest.

Maybe Varejao and Damon Jones can play as dummies to be dunked on.

When Kobe won that dunk contest, I dont think he had one amazing get you out of your seat dunk. That took place when he was young and fresh. I cant remember the last time he dunked a ball. It would be sad to see him out there trying to do a crazy dunk and not being able to get the ball over the rim. It would look like one of those old Sprite commercials

It would be cool to see him. But I'm not sure what he could do that we haven't seen before. I would like to see how far in back of the free throw line he could take off though. That would be awesome

Kobe's right, Lebron's too proud to lose (although with voting I don't see that happening), just go out and have fun.
