In games that go to a shootout, the Avalanche are the Wyatt Earp of the NHL. In games that don't, they are the villains in an action-hero movie — always just missing with their shots.

How the Avs could have a record of 11-1-0 in games that have gone into overtime and shootouts this season and still reside in the 15th spot in the Western Conference is a puzzling question.

Colorado improved to 9-1-0 in shootouts with a 2-1 victory over Minnesota on Thursday at the Pepsi Center. Shootout goals by Mr. Automatic — Wojtek Wolski — and Milan Hejduk against otherwise brilliant Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom got the Avs their second victory in three games.
