In games that go to a shootout, the Avalanche are the Wyatt Earp of the NHL. In games that don't, they are the villains in an action-hero movie always just missing with their shots.

How the Avs could have a record of 11-1-0 in games that have gone into overtime and shootouts this season and still reside in the 15th spot in the Western Conference is a puzzling question.

Colorado improved to 9-1-0 in shootouts with a 2-1 victory over Minnesota on Thursday at the Pepsi Center. Shootout goals by Mr. Automatic Wojtek Wolski and Milan Hejduk against otherwise brilliant Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom got the Avs their second victory in three games.
