Bonner to play for Team Canada

TORONTO - Matt Bonner could be Canada's next sharpshooter.

The San Antonio Spurs forward, who played two seasons for Toronto, is in the process of applying for Canadian citizenship and he reiterated his hopes Wednesday to play for Canada's men's basketball team.

"It's something I wanted to do, something I felt strongly about. I feel very strongly about representing Canada and trying to help the team in any way possible to be successful on the world stage," the three-point specialist said.

Bonner, who was in Toronto for the Spurs' game against the Raptors, has a grandfather from Newfoundland and his wife is from Toronto.

"I feel like I'm part-Canadian, having a Canadian grandfather and growing up a couple of hours south of the border (Concord, N.H.) and then having such a great time playing here for the Raptors - it just feels right," Bonner said.
Very classy move from a classy guy, this could only stand to benefit the program.

well its not like we approached him to play for us, he wants to do under his own free-will. Besides, the US had Brett Hull lol

lets not compare Bonner to Brett Hull, besides Hull wanted to play for Canada we just didn't want him.

same scenario applies, Hull wasnt good enough to make team canada so he played for the US, and there's no way in hell Bonner would even come close to sniffing the bench of the US team; so, he's making a move so he can play international ball (Kaman did the same thing with Germany).

Leo should be replaced. So many player don't want to play on the team because of his coaching theories, and most of them have played Pro, been around other coach longer, key players for their organization and yet still dislike Leo.

I know we could us Denhim Brown on team Canada, but supposidly him and Leo dont get along. Same rumour goes for Vlad Kulijinan who was a double/double machine in UNC-Willington, and is probably over seas aswell.

I just dont see why his son is on the team while there is way better players that can be on the roster, never mix family with business. To me it feels like he trying to get more exposure for his son.

Can't we get Anthony Parker on team Canada, he has been in Canada for 3 years, isn't he allowed to get a citizenship, or Joey Graham. Since none of them will every be good enough to play for USA.
