Lightbulb Advice on best Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Software

I know this thread is similar to the one below me; however, my computer is different. Here are some specs (it's very old):

    Dell Dimension 4600
    Microsoft Windows XP
    Version 2002
    Windows Service Pack 3
40 GB Hard Drive (more than enough for me)
256MB RAM (I am installing a 1GB Memory stick Module tomorrow so this we be greatly updated)
    Firefox Browser

I was considering using Bitdefender Total Security 2009, is this the right choice, or is there something better and more effective?

I do not mind paying by the way.

Bit Defender is an excellent choice. A great alternative would be Kaspersky. Just stay away from crap like Norton and McAfee.

AVG has top quality Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software, and you even get a 30 day free trial to see if you like it or not. Spybot S.A.D. Also helps to pick up Spyware that goes undetected.

Ok, so now I'm leaning towards either Bit Defender Total Security 2009 or Kapersky Anti-Virus 2009/Kapersky Internet Security 2009.

Which Kapersky is more reasonable, I don't believe I need all the bells and whistles that IS2009 provides. It seems like Kaspersky AV2009 does more than enough for me.

    Advice?

This makes me feel better. I plan on purchasing Bit Defender Total Security 2009 tomorrow morning unless anyone has a differing opinion...
