Statistically, so could just about every catcher in MLB.

Realistically certain owners need to stop just being cheap and put up the money (which they certainly have) to make their team competitive.
When the economy starts affecting teams their collective leverage goes bye-bye. Think UAW here.

The economy will be the salary cap.

2 years before FA on Mauer. Teams need at least one marquee guy. Guys in his position often get hurt. Surprise factor zero if the Twins lock him up for 6 years at $13.5M per since it also mitigates against him getting badly hurt in the next two years and be worth nothing.

Right now you'd have to trade the top 4-6 guys in the system plus cash to get him. No thanks.

This don't seem the best idea to me either. Trade for salty, he's only 23 and he can become much better then he is right now. As a backup guy, sign a veteran like Paul Lo Duca or Michael Barrett.
