NBA Mock Offseason Playoffs: Miami Heat vs Detroit Pistons - VOTE!

    Miami has homecourt Advantage

    Miami Heat Lineup:

PG: Mo Williams l Earl Watson l Chris Quinn

SF: Tracy McGrady l Jarvis Hayes l Eric Piatkowski

C: Yao Ming l Scott Pollard l Stephane Lasme

    Detroit Pistons Lineup:

PG: Chauncey Billups/ Roger Mason Jr./ Mike James
    SG: Vince Carter/ Willie Green/
SF: Matt Barnes/Walter Herrmann/ Jared Dudley
    PF: Elton Brand/ Stromile Swift/
    C: Rasheed Wallace/ Rasho Nesterovic/ Johan Petro

    Miami Heat Writeup:

    Writeup
PG: Williams vs Billups: Billups is clearly the better scorer and has the playoff experience but MO brings the little things to the game. Last year the Celtics won the title with an unknown Rajon Rondo leading the team. Stars like KG, Allen and Pierce helped make him a better player. That is what will happen to Mo come playoff time. Our stars like Redd, McGrady, Dirk and Yao will help Mo into a better player in the playoffs. We don't need him to produce a lot. All we need him to do is dish out assists to our four stars and sometimes shoot when left open. Mo is also an underrated defender. Mo will be able to handle Billups. He won't get totally beaten. All in all, Williams is a decent PG for our star studded team.

SG: Redd vs Carter: Both players do one thing very well, SCORE. They can shoot lights out and put up 30+ points any given night. But I believe Redd can shoot three pointers better and consistently makes them giving him a slight advantage. Both won't produce their normal numbers with each other defending themselves, but Redd will come out on top at the end. Redd won't be depended on a lot to score since we have three other all stars who can score.

SF: McGrady vs Barnes: This is where we have a clear cut advantage over the Pistons. McGrady is clearly the better player by a wide margin. He will destroy Barnes off the dribble and he will be shooting free throws all night. McGrady also has good D which will stop Barnes from doing whatever he does if he does anything at all. He can also score lights out and he will be relied to score in this series since he has a height advantage on Barnes. Either way, T-Mac wins this matchup.

PF: Nowitzki vs Brand: This is a pretty even matchup. Both are proven stars in this league. But just like the 1st round series, Dirk has the outside and mid-range game. This will cause Brand to step out and defend Dirk leaving the paint open for Redd or T-Mac to drive in. Brand might be the better low post player but Yao can always come over and double team. In the end, Dirk's outside shot might be the key in this matchup.

C: Yao vs Rasheed: I think this is another good matchup. Both players do things very well. Wallace has the outside game while Yao has the post game. Yao has a height advantage of maybe 6 inches making him unstoppable. Rasheed will be forced to foul when in trouble and he will be sitting on the bench while Yao makes free throws. Sheed will also get at least one technical foul because of his temper. At the end, I see Yao coming up big for the Heat.

Benches: Our backup PG is Earl Watson and their's is Roger Mason. Mason might be the better scorer but Watson is the prototypical PG. He gets the ball to whoever is open all the time. Backup SG's are Carlos Delfino and Willie Green. Both are solid scorers off the bench but Delfino has better three point range giving him an advantage. SF's are Jarvis Hayes and Walter Herrmann. Both are former Pistons who can score. Hayes brings scoring while Herrmann can pull down the boards. Our PF is Robert Horry while Pistons have Stromile Swift. Swift has never lived up to the hype coming out of college. Horry has countless rings. He won't play a ton of minutes anyway with Dirk at PF but when he does play, he is Mr. Clutch. Finally, backup Centers are Pollard and Nesterovic. Nesterovic has the advantage here. Pollard is just ok as backup.

Last Team Standing: This is a very good matchup between two perfectly assembled teams. Both teams have every ingredient for a title. But I see the Heat toughing it out and taking the series in 6 hardly fought games. I just think our four superstars, Redd, T-Mac, Dirk, and Yao, will be too much for the Pistons to handle. Heat advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

    Detroit Pistons Writeup:

Wow, now this is a series....

    Chauncey Billups vs Mo Williams
We feel like we can dominate this match up. Mo Williams has never been anything more than a decent point guard on a bad team. Now he is expected to be at the man at the point for a title contender. Plus he has never been a great a PG with great decision making PG.. he needs the rock in his hand to be a great player and this series he simply wont have it. He is the 5th option on the floor on offense and there never suits a shoot first pg like Williams who needs his shots. Billups is an outstanding defender and rarely gives up a bad basket. He has been a champion and knows how to lead his team in the playoffs in Crunch time. He is a guy you can depend on having the ball in the dieing minutes and not have to worry about a turnover, with Williams you do. Billups offense is just as good as williams, if not better. Billups in this one is a no brainer. Advantage Pistons

    Vince Carter vs Michael Redd
A Match up of scoring guards. Both guards play average defense and are there only to score...But in the end who is better at the offense end of the floor.. Its carter without question, both shoot the 3 well but Carter can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket in ways Redd can only dream of. Carter's game is no limited to a jump shot and this is one player he can really exploit. Redd does not move his feet well on defense and that should allow Carter to get to the basket at will. Vince Carter is a top 5 SG in the game, Redd is nowhere near that list.. Its Carter hands down. Advantage Pistons.

    Matt Barnes vs T-Mac
This match up is going to be tough for the Pistons. Barnes is a good defender who should frustrate T-mac on the offensive end. T-mac can't afford to leave Barnes alone because Barnes can hit the 3 if left open so no sagging away from his check on Defense to play help defense wont work. Barnes knows his role, he is there to frustrate T-mac anyway he can and hit open shots when the double comes on one of the bigs down low. Barnes could surprise people in this series. Plus t-mac has a tendency to be not effective when he does not get the ball and Barnes should frustrate him. Plus t-mac injury' problems leave much concern that he could be effective over the course of a long 7 game series. Advantage Heat.

    Elton Brand vs Dirk Nowitzki
A great match up in this series. Brand is a very physical player on the offense and defensive end of the floor. He plays physical and Dirk hates any kind of contact in the post, he avoids it any way he can. If Brand was not athletic, I might be worried but I know Brand can keep up with Dirk on defense as he uses his feet very well to stay in front of his man. On offense, Brand should do some damage. Brand like Dirk has that mid range jumper but Dirk does not have the back to the basket game that Brand has. Brand plays physical down low and can back down any power forward in the game. Brand also has the ability to control the glass as he should double the rebound numbers that Dirk can grab for the heat. Dirks inability to work the defensive glass well, should allow Brand to really eat up the offensive glass. Advantage Pistons

    Rasheed Wallace vs Yao Ming
I love this match up. Yao is very skilled, Don't get me wrong but if there is one player who can frustrate him its Wallace. Wallace is a physical defender who never ever gives an inch. He always plays hard on defense and never allows an easy basket. He has the ability to frustrate any player he plays against. He tugs on their jersey, trash talks in their ear, puts an elbow in their chest. He does whatever he can to win. Plus by having a guy like Rasheed go against Ming, it allows the Pistons to pull Yao out of the paint. The heat can't afford to sag off Wallace because he has deadly range behind the arch. Yao will be forced to play away from the basket on defense and take away his ability to block shots from the pistons guards driving to the basket. It really opens the floor up for Carter in getting to the basket. Wallace has the ability to be an X factor in this series because he is not a traditional center on offense which will frustrate Yao in not playing the game he likes. Rasheed has the game to really make this series a win for Detroit. Advantage Pistons.

    Pistons Bench vs Heats Bench
The pistons will be lead by Roger Mason Jr, Walter Herrmann and Willie Green. All 3 have great ranger from anywhere on the floor. They can create their own shot and get to the basket and none of them are a slouch on defense. Mason Jr should have a nice series as neither Mo Williams or Redd are great defenders which should allow Mason to have his way with the heat defense. Rasho gives my team another big body to put in front of Yao. Rasho is over 7'0 feet and plays a smart game of basketball. He no the limits and strengths of his game and like Yao has a good mid range jumper which sould pull Yao again away from the basket or risk Rasho making open jumpers all day from the baseline corner where he is money. The Pistons also have Jared Dudley who has played very well for the Bobcats this season. he has been a starter and knows how to rebound and get the garbage baskets for the pistons when he is called upon. He also is a stand up defender who is known for his defensive tenacity. Too be honest the only strength on the Heat bench is PG. But Watson and Quinn can't play the same time on the floor as they are both pg's and both are too small to play against Carter at the SG spot. Hayes, Horry and Pollard are all washed up and have proven nothing in the last few years. When you don't have anyone to come off the bench in your front court, it is a cause for concern. Horry has retired in real life and he knew his career was done, he wont even be an average player off the bench for the heat. This is all Advantage Pistons!

    Outcome
This series will be tough but the Pistons team features players who have won the NBA title. The only player in the heat starting lineup that has ever come close to the title is Dirk. The Pistons are led by Billups and wallace and that leadership will be a big difference in this series. The Pistons play great defense and this will be the difference in the series. My leaders have won it all in crunch time. Pistons win Series in 6 games!

haha why clearly do they win. This pistons team could easily play up to the heat and beat them. The Pistons team is much more physical and they have players that have won it before..

Dirk would play like Memo, he would draw Elton outside so he would be a non-factor on the inside game. Yao is a GREAT post player, and Wallace is undersized for a center. Mo Williams and Michael Redd would act as floor spacers for their abilities to shoot long range Js. And T-Mac would just own Matt Barnes in a one-on-one matchup.

Michael Redd and Dirk can stay and work with the 2nd unit. That gives them a clear advantage over the other team's bench.

nicely said. again, all our starters won't be coming out of the game at the same time. like 2 or three will be staying in meaning 2 stars will be in the game at all times.

The Pistons defense is much better and the Heat are still horrible at that end of the floor, but it's not hurting them yet. They've still got way to much flexibility and firepower at the offensive end. Pistons D would make it a series, but the Heat would be too much to stop.
