    Teams shy from mid-level exceptions

Why are so many teams not using the mid-level exception? Teams are growing reluctant to use all or even a good chunk of their full mid-level because it eats up salary cap space in future years, and in some cases, puts a team over the luxury tax. Also, some GMs are a little skittish because some high-profile mid-level deals in recent years ( Brian Cardinal, Jared Jeffries, Jerome James) have failed spectacularly. The bottom line is that in most cases there is little or no market for those type of full mid-level deals, so teams aren't going to bid against themselves. They can afford to wait it out and try to get those players at cheaper rates.

Using your mid-level exception is only a good idea if you're a contender and can get a quality player to go for a lower salary at that price. The only good mid-level exception players tend to be veteran role players, who are only of use to put a contending team over the top. The difference between the salary cap and the luxury tax is only two mid level contracts, so using your mid level regularly is going to put you in the tax very quickly.

yeah, the MLE is a good idea, and it works in some regard as it is usually split between players, but rarely are their players that are warranted that near 6 million. Usually they are worth less, and you overpay to get them, or their worth more and they won't sign for that little. Not surprising really. Especially not with overseas opportunities now much more prevalent for MLE type guys, like Childress.

I wonder if AI is willing to play for MLE. Would be nice if he'd return to the Sixers if Miller doesn't resign.

^^ that would only happen if philly makes the nba finals and the organization convinces AI that he is the missing piece that would lead them to the finals

Oh its not a big deal.

There wont be much Mles this year nor the Next.

But once Wade, Lebron, Stoudamire, Ming, Paul, Howard etc etc have at last resigned with their team or signed somwhere else in 2010 summer expect the teams to start offering Mle like crazy Again.
