Update: Italy still an option for Marbury; But not in Milano (Post #5)

Last summer, Stephon Marbury vowed he would play in Italy after his Knick contract expired after 2009. At the time, many scoffed at the farfetched notion. But Marbury's desires have now become the trend, with nine NBA players signing with European or Israeli clubs since July 1's free agency. While Marbury plans to play in the NBA this season - with the Knicks or another club if released - he still has plans of an Italian career. In fact, Marbury told The Post he will play as soon as next season, specifically aiming to join Milan. He'll have connections. Mike D'Antoni coached Milan in the 1990's and first-rounder Danilo Gallinari played for Milan the past two seasons.

I find it funny that it says "European or Israeli clubs". it almost sounds like a hint.

thats good for him, as long as the Milan team isnt AJ Milano

How much money does Maccabi Tel Aviv currently spend? What kind of contract would they offer Marbury?

Maccabi doesnt have the money to offer him.

Carlos Arroyo signed the biggest contract the team has ever had (2.5 million)

the teams in other countries get a lot of money from big European sponsors, and their owners

Maccabi's sponsors are mostly Israeli, which I guess results in smaller money spending.

The latest rumors around the net were talking about the possibility of Stephon Marbury signing in Milan. But it looked more like a wish of the NBA Free Agent than a real possibility.

Because officially, Armani Jeans Milano has already completed its roster for the upcoming season and the foreigner spots are taken too. So for Coney Island Finest, he won’t earn his money in Milan this season as we got confirmed by a member of the AJ Milano management.

In any way, Marbury may have struggled in the Euroleague because of the difference in playing style with the top level PGs, the fact of seeing him play against Brandon Jennings in the Italian League would have been a big thing for US basketball fans. However, the fact that Milano is not going to sign him does not mean that Marbury won’t play in Italy.
