Kwame Brown agrees to two-year deal with Pistons

Kwame Brown is headed back to the Eastern Conference.

Brown's agent, Mark Bartlestein, told ESPN.com on Monday night that the former No. 1 pick in the 2001 draft has reached a verbal agreement on a new contract with the Detroit Pistons.

The contract is believed to be a two-year deal worth $8 million, with Brown -- who spent his first four seasons as a pro in Washington after being drafted by then-Wizards president Michael Jordan -- holding a player option to return to free agency after this season.

Brown earned nearly $9.1 million last season in the final year of his previous three-year deal, which the 26-year-old received in the summer of 2005 in a sign-and-trade from Washington to the Los Angeles Lakers. Brown's expiring salary was the chief chip that the Lakers used to convince the Memphis Grizzlies to send Pau Gasol to L.A. on Feb. 1 in a trade that earned the Grizzlies widespread criticism.

Brown played in only 15 games with the Grizzlies after the trade, averaging just 3.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in under 14 minutes per game.
4 mil a season for a player who cant even catch a ball

wow! 4 million? Damm I was hoping the Lakers could resign Kwame for like 2 per..but Mitch pretty much shot down those hopes...on the radio today..

Still Kwame is a good defender and he'll fit right into the DET Mindset..

But yea like you said just don't expect him to catch the rock and finish

I hope you are kidding. He is the modern day Olowokandi. Total bust. But he is huge, 25, so someone was bound to give him a chance. But if Detroit paid him 4 million a year, someone has something on Joe Dumars.

Pistons got him to improve their defense against the Celtics.

Joke all you want guys, but he's a decent defender and a pretty good rebounder, for a team that's over the cap for the foreseeable future and needed a good defensive big man it's a great pick up.

I think they have noticed he has been traded for all stars in Caron Butler and Pau Gasol. They are probably thinking they can get D Wade for him next year.

Like I said, fine, for 1.4 a year. But if they paid 4 million a year for him, that is ridiculous. He is a 5-5 player, who averages 4 fouls for every block he makes.

Solid pickup, he is a good man defender. I wouldnt have minded the Spurs getting him, but we got KT instead.
