No, but I thought they weren't good enough to win another 10 games through the rest of the season. But they have surprised me, by both how well some of them (such as Ortega and Schwendle ) have hit and how often they have come off the deck to win late-- something the "old" Cubs seemed unable to do, although they often tried. But they always seemed to fall one hit short in their comeback attempts-- which several other contribitors here have noted in the past.Quote:

I think there's more value in playing the best guys we have and finding some hidden gems that we can use for next year than than getting 2-3 slots higher in the draft. I want them to lose but perform well, which is unrealistic i guess.

I'd absolutely take the bet that Rizzo is the much much better player moving forward and i'd work to get him back next year. I don't think he was ever getting 20 mil per. We could always overpay him, a legend, and have it not hurt the team because the Ricketts literaly have fly into space for fun money. But also, 1B isn't a hard position to fill so if they want to throw Schwinder there next year i guess that's ok. There's more important spots to focus on in FA.Quote:

Schwindel is carrying this team big time. Also the other solid pieces Hoyer called up are contributing too. Oh that's right. I try not to trip on this stuff so much but I get why people are frustrated by this recent streak. For me it's so much the difference between quality of player because there are great players selected in the latter half of the first every year basically, but the bigger draft pool is obviously helpful. Now Happ is absolutely on fire. He's hit about 10 homers and raised his average about 50 points in the last month (not easy to do this late in the year). It is unfortunate he wasn't hot earlier in the year before the trade deadline. If he had, we might not have had to have the "firesale" then.
