OK maybe you're just messing with me now. I am aware of all of this. That doesn't mean he carries a team offensively the way Cespedes did.
Cespedes had 17 homers and 44 rbi in 57 games with us in 2015. How often has Bryant had those numbers in a 57 game span? Maybe never, or maybe in his MVP season 5 years ago.
It's unlikely he carries us to wins the way Cespedes did in 2015. That's all.
Rumor around the corner is Mets are more interested in rentals than guys like Berrios
It’s going to be interesting what the cost of all these players are.
In terms of marquee guys, the one I’d want the most is Scherzer. I think he instantly turns this team into more than just a playoff contender.
I don’t want too many rentals, especially if it’s going to bleed out the top 15 in the system. I think Scherzer is the one rental that I’d consider giving up l/Vientos for.
I think Merrifield ends up a Mariner, he’s not exactly what the Mets need right now, either.
I’ve made my position on Bryant pretty clear, I think he’s the guy to go get.
Story and Baez would be solid upgrades but I’m not sure that their bats are good enough…Lindor/Baez up the middle combo would probably be the most fun of all time, though. Lol.
Lots of guys on the move, I wonder who we’ll get.
Washington also possibly making Turner available…I would pay a premium for him. Plays short until Lindor gets back, moves over to 2nd or CF afterwards. ****, see if he can handle third.
I’d happily give them Mauricio, Ginn, and any other prospect that follows.

Turner would cost an arm and a leg
Let's be real. The Nats will not send marquee players to the Mets, unless the Mets give up 2 or 3 top 10 prospects. So forget Scherzer or Turner. However, it is good to kick the tires. I like the Maserati but it just doesn't fit my style of vehicle especially at age 70.
Let's get the "other" closer that we sorely need. Diaz has shown us this month, that he cannot be trusted with every lead. And let's get another mid rotation starter for depth more than anything else. deGrom and Carrasco will both be in the mix soon. And who knows if Thor will be ready - even if it is mid-September that would be a tremendous add even if it is in the bullpen.
What if Steve kicks in 15 million for the deferments or 25 million? What would the prospects be in that trade?
Not sure that even the "maverick" Uncle Steve would do that - but that might be needed to get anything done with the Nats. No other team (except the Yankees, Dodgers or Padres) would ever think of doing that. So Max comes here, pitches just ok, then leaves and we have another Bobby Bonilla payday?

Listening to Zack Scott, it was pretty clear that the Mets are still looking to add a starting pitcher and they’re open to adding a piece that can play shortstop (and other positions).
Of course, reliever(s) is a need as well.
out of all the names mentioned, only one of them gets you a WS ring.
Max Scherzer
Kris Bryant is an awesome player but his bat in 2021 and what Davis offers might not be that big of a difference on a 2 month basis.
We have to get another starting arm and fast. Can't trust that Carrasco and DeGrom are going to hold up week by week.
It's not just about replacing Davis. Its about the versatility Bryant gives you playing all 3 OF positions and the fact that he's a RH bat the Mets could use, especially as Conforto and Smith continue to underwhelm.
Scherzer is nice in theory but its very unlikely the Nats trade him in division and the premium for doing so would be significant. Have to believe there are better offers out there for him as well.
The next few days should be a trip. I love reading rumors and reporting at the deadline, even though most of it is posturing by GMs keeping their cards close to the vest..
However, I have to say that the writing (can't call it reporting) on the SNY.TV site, already abysmal, speculative nonsense, sinks fathoms lower as the deadline approaches. They don't work the phones, or even try to break news. They simply wonder out loud about pie in the sky **** like, What would it take for the Mets to land Babe Ruth?, and then vomit 200 words on it. What a waste of a platform.
I don't think the Nats trade Turner to us cuz we'd have him long term, but if we make the best offer for Scherzer, they'll absolutely trade him to us. I mean, what's the reason not to? To save your pride of not sending good players to division rivals even if he's about to be a free agent and we aren't planning to compete this year anyway?
Again, why would the Nats pass up a better offer for Scherzer when they are throwing in the towel for this season?
You think the Nats are gonna be like, we think this Mets prospect has a better chance of helping us long term, but let's take this worse prospect because we don't want Scherzer pitching against us 2, maybe 3, times because that might put us back into 4th place instead of 3rd?
There's always a premium for in division trades, especially if the Nats think the Mets have a chance to re-sign Scherzer in the offseason. Teams are not in the business of helping their competition. Maybe the Mets have the best package but its unlikely given the farm systems they are competing against. Its much easier for the Nats to ship him off to Houston, Boston, LA, San Diego, etc for similar returns where they see him far less frequently.
We'll see but I dont think the Mets are in on Scherzer like Met fans hope they are.
We are the ones that should be careful trading for Scherzer. You're giving yourself one chance at winning a WS with that trade and if you're giving a good prospect that could start for them for years to come, that could prove to be a massive mistake. Nats on the other hand would gladly trade him to us if it's the best offer.
Unlikely the Mets make the best offer because its the same thing on their end. They don't want to trade the Nationals multiple impact prospects that could hurt them in the future. Its not impossible. I just don't see it happening. Much more likely Scherzer goes elsewhere.
I agree if the offer is similar, but no way they pass on what they believe to be clearly a better prospect if we make the offer.
Anyways, we still need to be careful because once OCT comes, anyone in the playoffs can win. You don't have to have the best roster.
I don't want to trade ANY of our top 6-7 prospects for someone that's a free agent in a couple months.
That means no Alvarez, Baty, Mauricio, Allan, Ginn, PCA, or Vientos for a single player rental. If you're getting more in return that you can control for next year at the least, then maybe
The best options are rentals, unless the Indians are willing to move Ramirez and the Twins are moving Berrios. I don't see all these great players available at the deadline. I don't know what the answer is. Its always a balancing act of how willing you are to shove your chips to the middle of the table. Who are the Mets primary targets? Only Alderson and Scott know that.
deGrom's health makes the situation more difficult too because you don't know how many times he'll be shelved from now until the end of the season.
If i'm them, I go after a bat and a couple of RP and make your push. I dont think Scherzer can be had at the price that makes the Nats and Mets comfortable in making the trade.
Yeah lemme get a uh, good RHB please…preferably an outfielder?

Chafin goes to the A's.
Damn that was a guy I wanted for Mets.

Hopefully we get Kimbrel with Bryant/Daez

Bryant Kimbrel I assume would cost JT Ginn and some combination of other a couple other top 30 prospects, probably one or two of Alex Ramirez, Palmer, Santos... And one or two outside the top 30.
I don't know that we need to pay the price it'll cost for Kimbrel. His 2019 and 2020 seasons scare me. A change of scenery for a dominating RP doesn't always work out, as we've seen with Diaz.
We can probably get Bryant alone with none of our top 6-7 prospects, and go for another RP like OAK just did with Chafin, who'll still fill a late inning need, but not cost our top prospects. Ryan Tepera can easily be a throw in on a Bryant deal, as he's also a rental.
