Heard bryon Buxton may also be available. I'm conflicted with him because he has so much potential and is already a GG true center fielder. But so was Billy Hamilton so is it worth an overpay?
I know Buxton is the better player but I'm using example of cost because of potential

Buxton’s question isn’t potential, it’s health.
He’s a top 5-10 player when healthy…he’s just rarely healthy.
I’d pass on him, tbh. I think a super utility guy or an infielder is a more pressing need at the moment.
If one of the outfielders go down, I’m cool rolling with Pillar and Lee for a bit. It’s tough to envision at bats for Buxton with the way the roster is currently presented. It would be more of a move for the future, assuming Conforto walks.

Came to post that the Pads got Frazier.
I didn’t want him so it’s whatever. Go get a big name.

If the Padres don't win the division, their season can end with one WC game. They've given up a lot to get to this place.
Sort of like the Lindor/Carrasco trade, I get a feeling they're working on a BIG package deal that isn't terribly on the radar -- Bryant/Kimbrel or Hendricks? Story/Gray? Ramirez/Plesac or Quantrill? Suarez/Gray? Starting with the ASG, I've now heard 3 TV baseball analysts (Olney and Sherman were two, I believe) who have used "Mets" and "Story" in the same sentence.
For a package deal, I see them offering Davis, Mauricio, Vientos and a 4th player (probably a lower-level pitcher). I think that they only give up 2 STRONG prospects (like Mauricio and Vientos) if they're getting 2 players back. Again, like the Lindor/Carrasco deal.
I don't know, just a feeling ...

José Ramírez could be available at the @MLB trade deadline, with Cleveland losing tonight for the 5th time in 6 games and falling to .500. Ramírez's contract includes affordable team options for 2022 and 2023, so the club could wait until the offseason to move him. @MLBNetwork
Yes please.
Soria is rumored to be on the block, and Allard Baird knows our system.

Story has been mediocre. Baez does nothing besides hit home runs or strikeout. If you get those guys without giving up a ton, sure but neither player is having that good of a year.
Still think Bryant is the guy they have to get. His versatility is a plus too. The fact that he can play all 3 OF spots along with 3rd base is big.
They need a bat. This offense is not good enough to make a deep run into the playoffs, especially if Conforto and Smith continue being average to below average bats. They have been better of late but that's not saying much. They were dog **** for 3 months.
I'm not one of those people who believe in hoarding prospects when you have a win now window. If the Mets overpay and get Bryant and Kimbrel/Chafin/Tepara so be it.
I don't disagree with your first paragraph .
Bryant is no Cespedes . He cannot carry a team to the playoffs . I am not so sure that he is a much better hitter than Davis is at this point. I do not think that there is a player out there who is on the market who can make a real difference offensively.
A healthy Byron Buxton could but that is an oxymoron.
To make a deep run in the playoffs as the great Tim Russert said it is PITCHING , PITCHING, PITCHING that does it. I know it probably is a pipe dream but a staff of DeGrom, Walker, Stroman , Syndergaard and Carrasco for the playoffs would be awesome with an addition of another excellent bullpen arm.
Max Scherzer would make a difference but there is no chance that if he is indeed traded that the Nats would trade him to the Mets. Craig Kimbrel could make a difference.
You say you don't like to hoard prospects if you can win now. Which prospects would you hoard? If you don't want to hoard prospects aren't you better to wait until the off season when many more players could be available in a trade.?
As I previously stated there really is no one out there right now. who can get us a championship .
He is owed quite a bit in deferments and

scherzer/berrios would be some great pick ups i hope cohen eats up some cash so we dont give up our best prospects. id setter for a reliever and a utility player tho
I think what he means is, Cespedes had that incredible power ability to literally carry the offense and the team to wins. Bryant is definitely a better hitter, but if he's getting a lot of singles and doubles, we have to rely on the rest of our offense for runs.
Cespedes on the other hand was hitting bombs with men on base regularly which led to a lot of wins.
Also, people saying the Nats won't trade Scherzer to the Mets? Why not? He's a rental. Not like they would have to worry about playing against him for years to come.
If they are gonna sell this year and throw in the towel, If the Mets make the best offer, they'll take it.
I actually would want Baez of those three. Most versatile, best defense, and good clutch skills

I hear you, but the power barrage Cespedes put on that year literally carried this team. KB would have to have an incredible two month span to carry us like Cespedes did. And honestly, Bryant's offense has been quite mediocre/bad for a good stretch of time now.
