If your going to let Conforto walk, it won’t be so Pillar can take over. It will be because they offered somebody else big bucks and or will make a deal.

At this point of his career Pillar is a corner outfielder, but an everyday player nevertheless. He is capable of hitting 15-20 HRs if he gets 600 ABs. He'll give you good defense too. They will give the money to a true centerfielder.
Pillar the guy with a .661 OPS? Yeah that’s not everyday player corner outfield numbers you want. Just because he will hit a homer once in a while does not make him a stater. He is a back up who can start incase of injuries.

Pillar is a great bench guy on a playoff team, capable of filling in for weeks at a time during the course of a season. I love his competitiveness, his approach and his small sample size propensity for the big hit, but not every day. He's an everyday starter for an also-ran. I have a similar take on Villar.
Like most of the Mets players Pillar is having an off year batting average wise. But he has more HRs than Conforto who is having his worse year as a Met. As for Villar IMO he is there best all around 3rd baseman. His offense is better than Guillorme's but not his defense. His defense is better than Davis's but not his offense powerwise. I think he should be starting at 3rd base for the rest of the season.
The Cubs are on a free far all, if that continues then look into Bryant because he would fit like a glove here.

Pass on Donaldson if he was expiring it’s be fine but commuting to him for 3 years seems very risky.
If Bryant is really available that’s the guy.
And they need a pitcher, obviously. Can be a backend starter just need someone to take on innings

Conforto for Bryant straight up?
Or maybe 3 three trade where the Cubs get some prospects
Give both players a change of scenery
Berrios is someone I would target, and I would take on all of Donaldson's contract to lower the cost. But I want Berrios, so I expect the Mets not to get him.
Kyle Gibson is someone else I would also consider.

The Mets do not want to trade Francisco Álvarez, Brett Baty, or others top prospects as the trade deadline approaches (via
@martinonyc
)
RF is covered when Conforto leaves. Brandon Nimmo finally becomes the RF, which is where he belongs. LF will be the revolving door but the Mets will likely mix and match with Dom Smith, Pillar and others. CF is where they need to go the free agent approach.
3b is a stop gap until Vientos, but more importantly Baty will be in a year or 2. No need to clog it up. That said, Donaldson should be finished with his 4 year deal when Baty is ready.

This goes in line with the Mets reported interested in Asdrubal Cabrera. I mean if he's depth, fine but not the type of player I really want to see the Mets headline as a bat at the deadline.Quote:
One thing I say a lot to a lot of people around me in the game is we’ve got to remember that baseball is not the NBA,” Scott said. “It’s not one person [who] has the opportunity to make as big of an impact. That’s not to go down a slippery slope and say, ‘Why trade for any rental, then, if it’s not going to make an impact?’ You don’t want to go down that far. But the reality is the game is designed to limit the impact of a single player, whether that’s a starting pitcher or a hitter. So we have to be smart.”
I'm still concerned the need will be for BP then SP by the deadline..they been ridden hard overall..and already seeing cracks in Castro. And we know Lugo can't be used repeatedly often....2nd half schedule being tough (west coast) ..think reinforcements should mlbe on tap there and there should be several options like there usually is.

I mean no GM will ever say that their team desperately needs this or that or is interested in improving in this area.
The problem with Mets is that as far as offense goes they been without their starters for a while till now and they may feel that what they have is enough specially if guys that struggled are not hitting better like Smith and Lindor.
The rotation is a different animal because guys are now hurt long term and have zero depth.

Bryant and Arrietta for Vientos and a low level spec
My trade target candidates I would like to see the Mets acquire:
1. German Marquez
2. Kris Bryant
3. Craig Kimbrel
4. Kyle Hendricks
5. Jose Berrios
6. Jose Ramirez
I’d be ecstatic if we got Marquez and Bryant. They are 2 guys that would really help big time to bolster both the rotation and lineup and would be fine those 2 as our deadline acquisitions (the 2 I want the most). I know our bullpen has been good already, but damn can you imagine if we added Kimbrel to it. Sign me up for a late inning combo of Lugo/Kimbrel/Diaz to close the last 3 innings. Hendricks and Berrios would be great adds as well. Jose Ramirez I know is a long shot. But hey can’t blame me for trying, sometimes there are surprises when you least expect them.
In the end, should be a fun deadline to see who the Mets pursue and acquire.
i would love bryant and hendricks from the cubs how stupid would it be if we took on heyward and dont have to give up **** for bryant and hendricks
Bryant would cost a JT Ginn type or Alex Rameriz/Carlos Cortes.
He is a rental.
That is not what I've seen or heard of Nimmo's arm. It is supposedly stronger and more accurate than Conforto's arm. Where has that been shared by the scouts or Mets organization?
In any case, Conforto will never get the big contract that Borass will try to get for him - not with this dismal season.
Joe Pantorno@JoePantorno
Source this AM suggests #Mets would be willing to go over luxury tax threshold to add necessary pitching depth/3B (like Josh Donaldson) near deadline.
@martinonyc
first reported interest in Donaldson last week & "internal calculations" that they're < $10 million shy of LTT.
The Mets love Kris Bryant

Mets are another team in on All-Star 2B Adam Frazier, as I should said on #MLBCentral
@MLBNetwork
Jon Gray is someone I think we can get for a low cost.

If there is any truth to the Frazier rumor, it would be great if they could get it done before they play the Pirates.
