Scouring potential trade pieces doesn't encourage me that much. I feel like they'll have to target a guy like Ketel Marte because they need that type of impact bat. Otherwise it looks like might be a sum of its pieces type deadline where the Mets acquire multiple lesser (than Ketel Marte type) bats.
I don't know what it would cost. Mauricio has to be on the table because the Mets have a SS for the next how many years. After that, they would probably want Baty or Alvarez and I don't want to give up either. That said Marte is team controlled for another 3 years. He did re-injure his hamstring yesterday so there's that possibility he may not be healthy come the deadline.
He would have to be your CFer because he doesn't have a ton of experience at 3rd base.
The Nationals are top heavy in terms of talent. Its literally Schwarber, Soto, Turner and Scherzer. Sadly thats at least 2 more guys than the Mets have hitting at the moment. If it wasn't such an underperforming division, I would say their chances of making the playoffs were none.
Atlanta has the best offense but their pitching is just awful. If they get hot, they are the most dangerous imo. This team needs to find bats. There's just no 2 ways around it.
They don't need to wait to the week of the deadline either.
I think one of the problem is analytics and launch angle. As an example , Jeff McNeil was a legitimate 300 + hitter and all of a sudden he is trying to become a power hitter,. He was a terrific line drive , finding the gap hitter in 2019 and he no longer is .

Not in love with Donaldson at his age but if they arent giving up much to get him, I guess i could live with it.
He'd be a nice addition this year but he's got two more years after that. Which would most likely shut down any chance of Bryant next year.
I still say get a #4/5 type pitcher and maybe some small deals. But it doesn't make sense to sacrifice the future to bring in anything less than a big-time, controllable piece.
I like the idea of getting Donaldson because he can still play a decent 3B and his bat has more potential than Villar's. He also brings a fiery presence that could be a good clubhouse spark. There will also be no shortage of at bats for Villar since he can play all around the infield.
In terms of Donaldson's age/contract, obviously both are less than ideal, but that is exactly why he shouldn't cost much. I don't want to see this team mortgage the future for an upgrade. Not that concerned about how getting Donaldson might impact pursuing a 3B in FA since one of Baty/Mauricio/Vientos is likely the 3B of the not too distant future.
Also, one of the benefits of a new, wealthy and motivated owner should be to be able to absorb bad contracts without hamstringing the team's future decisions.
Donaldson is hitting 250 with 13 HRs. Lets not make home out to be something he’s not. I don’t see him as much of an up grade. Unless you think his “fiery presence” makes that much of a difference. I do not.
The Donaldson rumors are starting with "preliminary talks" (from SNY). But I don't buy it, as it comes off as the media just hashing the name about. Like just picking the currently hot names at a need position and calling it a "rumor".

This is the one I’ve been clamoring for!!! We need some balls on this team, he’s got a set.

I’m good on Donaldson, especially after his whole ******** this past week.
Mets already have Stroman and Syndergaard, we don’t need another nut job lmao.

At Donaldson's age, I wouldn't trade any of our top 5 prospects for him. If he can be had without our top 5, I'm all for it.
If you ask me they fired Chili Davis too soon. He knew what he was doing. This new hitting coach Quattlebaum or whatever his name isn't doing much of anything. The Mets do have good hitters. What I don't understand is how can the whole team be in such a terrible slump offensively. Something is wrong. Maye it's the batting order? Maybe Lindor should be batting 3rd instead of 2nd.
Lindor should be batting 6th or 7th until he starts hitting
The fact that we're half way through the season and there hasn't been an entire revamp of the lineup is absurd. Clearly what they've got going on now isn't working!

I don't believe it's the hitting coach. Or the batting order.
Nor do I think a player's only meeting or Rojas tantrum will "light a fire".
I also don't believe that hitting is contagious.
But I do believe that when a few players start putting together quality ABs, it puts physical and psychological stress on the opposing pitcher, then bullpen, etc. that opens up more opportunities for the next man up.
Right now they're experiencing the opposite. They're letting pitcher's off the hook with alarming regularity, which emboldens them and, by lack of workload, strengthens their pen through the course of a series.
They need a bat or two in this lineup desperately. I don't mind Donaldson but what scares me is his age and the fact that he has 2 more years left on his deal. If he had one more year left, I would be a lot more on board. That said, they should explore trading for him. He's much better than Villar offensively.
I blame it partially on analytics and launch angle approach . My example is Jeff McNeil who at one time could have been considered as a batting champ. He was a terrific line drive and gap hitter. Now all of a sudden he is trying to become a HR hitter which he is not.
No I'm not kidding. Dude has a 124 wRC+. That's better than anyone on the team right now. I'm not in love with Donaldson but are you watching something different than everyone else is? They can't score runs. They need help and that's not internally.
You can still give Villar at bats. The way McNeil is playing, you can slide him over to 2nd base.
I seriously think Donaldsons cocky attitude would be good to have in the lineup. We’ve got nothing but timid attitudes up and down the lineup.
Being said, I wouldn’t give up any of the top four for him.

I see two regulars losing their starting jobs to two bench players, who were starters on other teams. I see Davis being traded for pitching help and Villar taking his place. And I see Conforto being allowed to walk as a free agent next year because of the terrible season he's having. 2 HRS so far!!! I say Pillar replaces him.
If your idea is to replace Conforto with Pillar then that’s just awful.
