You have 37+ year olds who’ve never seen their team win a championship. It’ll be cool for one fan base seeing that.

76ers got smacked in the mouth in the first period of game 1. Can't let the Hawks have the same success of a fast start. Game 2 is a ' must win' IMO.
Welp this didn’t go well:

1 incorrect no call benefitting the Sixers
1 incorrect call and 1 incorrect no call benefitting the Hawks
Everything else either a correct call or correct non-call.

This is the NBA, suspect reffing is the norm and its across the board. I know its annoying but its general consensus that reffing an NBA game is the most difficult of all sports and that the lines are blurred with certain rules, or that there's no consistency in how the rules are enforced. Further more the super star call has always been alive and well and continues to be. This isn't special treatment for the 6ers, Its how the game is called and its been like that for a long while. Raptors fans sort of have the same mentality that the refs want them to lose and help the other team. Its not true lol, it just seems that way.
Oh I know, it was in response to the comment that the Sixers called many more fouls than called. 2 calls favoring 1 team and only 1 favoring the other is fine by me (for the most part, depends on what they are).
In this case the missed calls favoring Atlanta:
Now yes we got the ball back and got the and-1 off of it but it could have been huge, and it would have been a foul out by Capela and more shots had it been called.Quote:
Q4 00:37.7 Foul: Loose Ball Clint Capela Joel Embiid INC Video
Comment: Capela (ATL) grabs and holds Embiid's (PHI) arm, which affects his ability to pursue the rebound.
This is the one that drew the comment that the Sixers were fouling much more and were getting away with it, and it's an incorrect call, and gave ATL the 2 shots to go up 4 as opposed to 2 and pessing Bogdanovich to possibly go OB at this point.Quote:
Q4 00:08.9 Foul: Personal Danny Green Bogdan Bogdanovic IC Video
Comment: Green (PHI) makes clean hand on ball contact as he tries to steal the ball from Bogdanovic (ATL) in the backcourt.
Its an old narrative though, its nothing new. Refs try to control the game and its annoying, calls are inconsistent. No one really knows what a flagrant is anymore. The only thing consistent is the inconsistency. Maybe I've just grown to be desensitized to it because other wise I would just stop watching. I've always been of the mind set that once the playoffs start that they would let the players play more and not try to control the game so much, especially late in games but that's just wishful thinking.
I mean what other league puts out statements the next day or two after the game that the ref got a call wrong, or that in the 2 min report certain calls were missed. Its like the NBA knows there is a problem because they are admitting to it on a regular basis, but the rules are becoming more confusing, and the lines are getting more blurred on how they are enforced, and there is no consistency between calls. Its a broken system, but I do believe its broken for everyone. I use to think the NBA and its refs had it out for my team, but my team aint in the playoffs and im witnessing the same bs with other teams, which leads me to think its not just my team, NBA reffing just sucks. Period.
The 6ers are a huge team that are physical, and its almost working against them in this series because Trae is like 160lbs and flops around and gets almost every call. On the flip side, a big strong player like Embiid or others like Zion almost get abused and there's no calls. Someone like Simmons whos 6'10 will eclipse Trae and by default that cues the refs to call every ticky tack foul they see. Add the fact that they are marketing Trae as a super star, he is going to get super star calls on top of it all.
I remember the Raptors would play the Cavs every year in the playoffs at some point and it was a forgone conclusion that LeBron's gonna get every call called in his favor, and when he didn't he would ***** and cry about it until he got a make up call. This lead Lowry and DeRozan to start *****ing and complaining to refs on every single call because hey what Lebron was doing seemed to work. Only they weren't super stars so it didn't work for them. Sometimes these things are glaring. I just thought it was general consensus by now that NBA reffing is a joke and its across the board.
Can’t say I didn’t not see all these comments on the refs coming. Unfortunately I think it will probably be called tighter moving forward. For the refs missing a foul is seen worse then making call when there wasn’t a foul. Most of the times noise about the refs just makes them call more fouls

I tell you what, the size one gets me more than anything. Ben comes out of so many games with scratches and cuts on his arms not called, but because the guy thats 160lbs soaking wet goes flying when someone steps on the same plank as him doesn't mean he should get the call.
The one that cracks me up more than anything, is so far I've heard announcers say about 5 guys that the Sixers were facing (Westbrook, Beal, Bertans, Hachimura, and now Hill) deserved a tech with their reactions or coming on the court without being in the game; yet there hasn't been one levied against them is a bit laughable.
Aside, no matter what you think the consensus is, it's still "whining" when you point it out that it's a joke.
yeah the size one gets me too. Shaq used to get straight up abused but because hes the size of a bear, the defender would always get the benefit of the doubt. Zion experiences similar treatment. I can only imagine the type of calls a guy like Iverson would get, I think were seeing it with Trae so I guess its not that hard to imagine. but it is ridiculous.
With respect to the bolded you're right, because I am agreeing with you that its a joke. But I just thought that every one already knew that it was a joke and not to be surprised by it, because its been going on for so long and I don't see it changing. Its like you gotta roll with the punches for the love of the game because the alternative is just to not watch, and I cant do that lol.
One of the things I like most about the 6ers is their size and physicality but it seems the NBA is doing away with that style all together which is sad, because some of the best playoff matches through out history were always physical and it was one of the things that made the game so intense. Now its almost like they tie your hands so that you cant use your physicality to your advantage. Imagine the bad boy pistons trying to get away with half the crap they got away with, doing to Jordan. So much so that Jordan would hit the weights in the offseason to be able to handle the physicality.
One of the things I always was intrigued by as a raptor fan was having some size in the back court. Having a small undersized back court with Lowry and FVV was always puzzling to me, but now I can see why it worked because the bigger guards cant really use their size to their advantage like they use to be able to do. Now you breath on a guy like Trae, or Freddy and its an automatic foul. A guy like Lowry knows exactly how to get those calls using his body too. he just sorta lunges in to the defender and than follows up with an animated reaction and 9 times out of 10 he gets the call. In the past though the same player would always struggle against guards who had length or size over him. Not so much anymore.
That and being able to get the “agility” call. When guys figured out they could just stop in the lane and get calls and could still hit the floater things got bad in terms of losing the size advantage. And I’m not sure when that became a thing but even bigger guys do it now. Could you imagine AI or IT or MJ doing those things?

Thats the thing, the 6ers arsenal and majority of their offense comes from their front court. Their wing players are spot up shooters or catch and shoot players. Their pg isn't offensive minded. In order to exploit that match up they would need to have the Hawks switch on every procession until Trae gets matched with Embiid or Harris. And of course the Hawks are doing their best on every possession to avoid that. Or if Ben tries to take it to the hole and maximize on that size advantage they'll just foul him and send him to the free throw line. The Hawks simply match up well against the 6ers imo, and the refs are taking the 6ers ability away of using their size and physicality.
What youre saying works in theory, but I'm not sure the 6ers have the pieces to execute it. Their 1 is a pass first player, and their 2&3 guys cant really create. So if you get Danny Green on Trae for example, it doesnt really help because Green has 0 handles and unles he catches and shoots over Trae that miss match is not going to be very effective. Similar scenario with Curry. Simmons is getting the hack a shaq treatment so he cant really take advantage of any mismatch really. That leaves the front court players, but more often than not Capela or Collins provide help d, even in the event that Trae does get matched up with those guys.
This is my favorite series so far. I think it is bc the Trey Young pick and roll and how you defend it so huge.

The issue on our offensive end is actually quite a bit easier, and that's to have Danny Green actually move. He just stood in the corner and let Young get away without doing anything.
I think what he's referring to is more when the Sixers are on defense, which all depends on how the game is called. If they let our bigger defenders play like they are just bigger and not call ticky tack things or call fouls when they jump into a bigger defender and bounce off then our size is going to be a huge asset.
Yes, same difference. If they don't have the personnel, that's still their fault. Everyone in the off-season was clamoring about spot up shooters needs to understand this limitation of guys are one dimensional.
If there isn't enough movement in the offense to cause Trae to have to run around punishing screens or potentially defend a guy who's capable of scoring over him, passing over him, or knocking down free throws, it's still their fault for not being able to exploit the opponent's weak point.
Trey Young gets all the love but Gallo’s goofy unathletic slow motion flop is top shelf
I do feel there's a good amount of overreation though when you consider in the 1st half the Sixers shot about 45% from the floor and the Hawks were 65% and 70% from 3. In the second half the Hawks actually shot their season average, the Sixers D started to play the way they can, and we close the deficit. The fact that there isn't more talk about the almost historic shooting night the Hawks had is kinda skewing the discussion though.
Do you remember when Kyle Lowry drew 3 consecutive charges in the ALL Star game last year? that's when I knew which way the league was going with that. Imagine doing nothing all game and then taking 3 charges to make an impact in a friggen All Star game. It became his calling after that lol
Completely agree, and Green is exactly what you’re describing.
Morey just took over last year, I think he will retool that roster. I actually believe that if Morey was around when Butler was a 6er, that we would have seen Simmons get shopped while Butler would have been made a priority to retain. In the playoffs I truly believe you need that perimeter player who can create for himself and get that bucket when needed. To me that’s exactly what the 6ers are missing.
You guys want the bad? Seems McMillan is encouraging it:
Yes and no....Maxey can do it but needs to grow some. Harris can do it but can't take his time doing it. Shake can do it but his confidence is gone. Hill kinda sorta can do it. I think what made Butler a fit with it is we were able to get away with still hiding JJ on defense. If we were to do something like CJ for Harris it almost requires moving Curry to the bench or in a trade because it would leave us vulnerable defensively.Quote:

#Hawks coach Nate McMillan on Trae Young's ability to draw fouls: 'That's a skill some guys have and they do it better than others. ... They take advantage of the pressure that's applied to them. It's a weapon for them - just like a jump shot.' Cites Harden & Paul as 2 examples.
If Atlanta were to somehow win this series, we'll see how long McMillan maintains that stance lol.....easy to say that when you're guy's doing the bull****
Yea that's why I'm high on maybe move Maxey this offseason. His value might be at an all time high. Then again we might be 'selling short' on him too.
Yea, honestly I'm kinda sick of coaches calling it out while having a player who does it. Nash calling out Trae Young as "not playing basketball" while coaching Harden is so ****ing hypocritical to me.
Embiid is questionable tonight.
Good start
Holy ****. Maybe I need to teach more during the game.
