Woulda had to be a 76er in front of Collins.
They've been letting Philly get away with some fouls on the inbounds. I hope Philly fans don't keep complaining about refereeing.
Hawks tried their best to give away that game lol

First and foremost I think the 76ers shouldn't play 11 guys in game 2 lol
Secondly I think there was some good stuff in the final 5 minutes of the game that the 76ers can build on.
Definitely. I think something they learned big time is who to attack and who to do it with. Doubling Young with Simmons then pulling Harris while dropping Green really got Young pissy, which I'll take. Huerter wants nothing to do with the ball other than shooting so I'd attack him. And like I said, I think seeking out Young and Capella and getting them in foul trouble is about the best defense we can run at the start of a game.
Called it:Quote:
Doc Rivers assessing Trae Young's big first half: "It was our coverages as much as it was Danny."
Simmons calling it out too:Quote:
Rivers hinting at some issues with the officials discussing Simmons taking the Young assignment: "He picked up two fouls for playing defense, and that was frustrating to see."
Rivers was also shocked their challenge in the third quarter was not successful
Quote:
Simmons on whether he thinks the matchups will get switched so he can check Young next game: "I probably will do that, I want to do that."
Says some of it depends on whether the refs actually allow him to be physical and play defense
I think we'll see the 2-team pace we've done at times. Off the board we get it to Simmons fast and he goes, usually with Curry and Green racing with him. And if it's there, take it. And if it doesn't then hit Embiid on the trailing and he sets the tone with either a shot or reset.
Watching it Simmons seemed really pissed he was basically called for fouls for being taller.Quote:
Ben Simmons, whether he expects the defensive assignments to change for Game 2, where he would defend Trae Young more: "I probably would do that. I mean, I want to. If the refs aren't gonna call so many fouls and I can be physical and be 6'10", then I'll be 6'10". But we'll see."
Simmons wasn't beating players to the spot. He was reaching and blocking with his body. They let him get away with more of it down the stretch, but he could have easily fouled out.
I don't expect the refs to allow that all game.
I actually expect the 2 minute report to show more fouls should have been called.
What absolute disaster dealing with the press in the final 3 mins. Is that just a total choke or something you can go back to? It does take the ball out of Young’s hands

It's both. I think McMillan was waiting for Doc to pack it in and put in bench, and when he didn't, Nate's players weren't ready for the pressure, and with no timeouts late he couldn't talk them through it. I think we'll see it at times but not as a full time thing. I'm willing to bet we see Simmons and Thybulle ride him full court though at times. Those to create at least 3-4 4 point swings a game by doing that.
I'm waiting on Philly media to call out Ben on 3-10 FT
The 76ers defense looks lost at times. I credit Atlanta for their scheme. The Hawks deserve the victory.
Doc needs to make adjustments for Game 2 and Hopefully the 76ers will be better.
He said "Simmons was 3-10, if he makes 7-10 they tie the game and it's in OT"
And I said "If the starters acted like they cared at the start, Danny Green took a shot in the first half, and the bench scored more than 23 points we would have won."
Apparently he didn't like being told other guys on the team played like **** too.
Silly that he blocked you but Ben is at the beginning of a 5 year deal starting at 30 million. He is going to feel more Heat then Danny Green. I’m honestly surprised Ben hasn’t taken more Heat. With Bron out and facing a tougher opponent I could see this story getting big if Simmons doesn’t get better.

He's taking plenty of heat in the Philly area. The stupid thing to me is that the people who in the media bring the heat on him for it also ignore that despite the shooting inability he still contributed the second most points created to Embiid and played at a DPOY level. And I think that's what got Doc heated, was having to continually answer those shooting questions and no one talks about the good in his game.
Marcus Hayes is definitely the thinnest skinned Philly reporter. He blocked so many people last year when he suggested that the Sixers just cut their losses with Embiid and get what you can (IIRC he suggested Embiid for Adams straight up) because "Embiid is just ok" after the loss to Boston in the bubble.
In all honesty, I would put Green on the bench, as he did better on Huerter. Start Thybulle. Yes you lose some spacing, but Thybulle was a monster on Young and really getting under Young's skin. And then on the other end, Thybulle actually moves a ton; so this forces Young to have to exert energy on that side of the court.
I think our biggest problem was we didn't make Young work enough on defense. Green just stood in the corner, and Trae literally just stood there refreshing himself. Then when they doubled Embiid, Young just split coverage, sat there when the ball rotated, and let the drive go knowing the rotation help was coming. Now that's good coaching by McMillan to make it easy on Young by doing that, but movement off ball will change that so fast.
Random factoid of the playoffs right now:
The shortest championship drought in the playoffs is the Sixers....last won in 1983.
