Hawks keep shocking the world
Hawks keep shocking the world
Now to the feel good stuff, congrats to Nate McMillan, it is his first conference final as a head coach.
This midseason coaching change rivals Lue for Blatt and Pat for SVG, no question.
Also congrats to the Hawks, all those offseason moves paid off. More teams should strive for $70+ million in cap space.
Got a 5 seed in the ECF for the 2nd year in a row!
goodbye ben simmons... you will not be missed. I ****ing love that his last scoring chance here was a wide open dunk under the basket with no defenders on him AND HE STILL PASSED THE BALL lol
They couldn't get Trae's dad a better seat?
Time to shop Simmons
Lolol
To be fair to Simmons, he's still a really good player. But I think we've seen it proved multiple times now that he's not really a max player or at least nowhere close to a true No. 2. If he was the third or fourth best guy on the team or he was making half of what his contract is, our expectations would be closer to the reality of what he is as a player.
Philly's problem is they now have two guys on max deals who aren't worth their contracts and aren't close to being legit No. 2s in today's NBA. I'm not sure how you fix that. Maybe Morey could deal Simmons to acquire assets that he could then attach to Harris' contract to dump him just to clear the cap space required to bring in an ACTUAL No. 2? I have no idea, but he needs to figure it out or he risks Embiid wanting to bolt for greener pastures down the line.
Between this and his insistence of playing full bench units was just baffling.
I saw someone float the idea of Simmons for 2 1sts, Hield, and Barnes. I think if we could find a 3rd team to swing Barnes to for a different type of wing player I would do it. Not sure who would be out there that you can get that can fill a 3nD role. They need to sign an instant offense off the bench guy too. Someone who’s just a walking 10-15 points in bunches.

I wonder what the odds would have been on a Milwaukee, Atlanta, Phoenix and Clippers final four before the playoffs started? If someone put any money down on that, I have to think they made a small fortune. To think we've got no Lakers, Nets, Philly or Utah in the conference finals blows my mind a little bit.
We’ve seen guys on much worse contracts get traded for more than a salary dump. I think on Simmons value the reaction right now is just too close to what happened. GMs around the league reportedly still like him, he’s going to be just 25 next year, and it’s pretty clearly something mental with him so whoever gets him needs to get to the bottom of it. Given that Fultz has somewhat gotten a shot back and mentally right in Orlando I think it’s clear to see something in the Philly org is off with this type of attention.
