My guess, with the Hicks torn wrist issues, needed the depth and now he is within reach after 10 days in Triple A in regards to the ''covid safety'' policy they are currently under.

Scranton improves to 8-2 with a 6-4 victory over Lehigh Valley (box score). The Railriders were down 3-0 after two, but tallied five runs in the fifth and never looked back.

Double-A Somerset Patriots
A rough sixth inning cost the Patriots this one, falling 7-3 to New Hampshire (box score). Somerset is now 6-4.
Starting pitcher: RHP Glen Otto: 5.1 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 8 K – 70 of 91 pitches were strikes (77%)…Ran out of gas in the sixth…three of his runs allowed were inherited and given up by Ridings. Not a great follow up to six shutout frames in Otto’s first star.

High-A Hudson Valley Renegades
The Renegades are back to .500. They improve to 5-5 with a 9-4 win over Aberdeen (box score).

Like Scranton, Tampa rallied back from a 3-0 deficit to win this one, 7-4 over Lakeland (box score). The Tarpons are 7-3.

I get the feeling, Wells is going to fast track. I will not be surprised if he gets bumped to AA around the break and even tastes some AAA by the end of the season.

Leftovers: LF Ryan LaMarre had two hits. He’s coming up to replace Aaron Hicks in the majors. RF Socrates Brito, C Rob Brantly, and 3B Armando Alvarez has hits as well.

Somerset won 5-3 against New Hampshire (box score). The Patriots are now 7-4.

I am usually for moving prospects if you can get a good enough return. That last part is the hard part though. Garcia is too good to be a throw in, and to headline a deal for a very good player, the selling team would have to be willing to trade a top player for him. That's why I the whole "they should have traded him when they could" argument only holds water when there was a specific trade the Yankees turned down or refused to include x player.

Scranton won again, defeating the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 3-1 in Sunday’s series finale. They improve to 9-3 on the young season. It was a dominant day for both pitching staffs – Spencer Howard was pretty dominant – but the RailRiders struck out 15 IronPigs and walked just 3. That will get the job done.
Starting pitcher: RHP Deivi Garcia: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 9 K – threw 60% strikes today…the curve was nice…the soon-to-be 22-year-old is finding a groove, walking just 2 batters while striking out 16 this week…command and control had been an issue thus far in 2021
In Relief: RHP Brooks Kriske: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K – 63% of his pitches were strikes…two straight scoreless outings for Kriske, who was hit hard in his first two Triple-A appearances…he earned the win

The Patriots fell to 7-5 with a 6-0 loss to the Fisher Cats. Somerset had traffic on the bases – 5 walks and 4 hits will do that – but they left all 9 on base. The team was 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. That will not get the job done. The bullpen was fantastic, though

The ‘Gades kept it at .500 with a 10-4 victory over the IronBirds. They had 14 hits and 4 walks. There were some blown opportunities, with the team leaving 10 men on base. Decent day for the staff, who struck out 10 but still allowed 4 runs. Overall, though, it’ll do.
Starting Pitcher: LHP Ken Waldichuk: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 7 K – 63% of his pitches were strikes…yet another dominant performance for the 23-year-old 2019 draftee, who has struck out 17 men in his last 7.1 innings pitched…if he keeps that up, Yankee prospect watchers will soon be eyeing his every start

A bunch of promotions today. Thomas Milone, Hoy Jun Park, and Brandon Wagner all earned the promotion to Triple-A Scranton.
Diego Castillo and Jason Lopez were both retroactively placed on the 7-day IL as of 5/16.
Oliver Dunn was promoted to Somerset from the Renegades.
Evan Alexander joins Somerset via the Tarpons.
Finally, Aaron Palensky is now a Patriot, coming from the Complex League.

The ‘Gades are a game over .500 after their 4-3 victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones today. It was a dominant day for the staff, who allowed just two earned runs, struck out 11, and walked none. Still, it took a late-inning comeback to win the game – but a win’s a win, right?

The Taropons had a performance worthy of the first week of the season, destroying the Mighty Mussels 15-1. They are 10-4 on the season now, and they score a lot of runs. Hilariously, they scored 15 runs without a HR. That’s what happens when you walk 8 times, I guess.

Medina missed a perfect inning by 1 pitch, 1st inning 10 pitches, 10 strikes, 3ks, he's through 2IN, 4ks 21 pitches. 16 of the first 17 pitches were strikes...
Yankees have become heavily connect to Gunnar Hoglund, RHP, Mississippi in the upcoming 2021 MLB draft. Haglund who was a first round pick of the Pirates in 2018 out of HS, was expected to be picked in the 5-10 range before his injury. He has a very solid pitchers frame at 6'4 210lbs, throws a very solid 4 pitch mix with what was considered the best command of any pitcher in the draft.. He doesn't throw very hard 92-95 but with his frame and the Yankees ability to add velo , he still has projectable velo.
Even though we would have him till late next yr being able to add talent like that to the system at 20 would be a steal for us... it would be really exciting if we got him
Medina with 12 pitch, 3k, 5th IN. He's now at 11 thru 5 and has only thrown 62 pitches
Medina final line 5 2/3rds 1H, 1R, 2 BB, 11Ks and they pulled him after 76 pitches.
So far on the season Medina has 4G, 18 2/3rds IP, 1.45 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 32ks ... Id say pretty dominate so far, I'm not sure what he has left to prove at this level. Might be time to bump him up to AA and see how he fairs against better competition
