I thought that i read that Seigler was going to start the season in high A. Vizcaino had some tightness in his arm and they shut him down for about a week towards the middle of ST. All the test came back clean, he's been working a throwing program and is expected to be back soon. He's expected to be in the high A rotation with Medina when he gets back.

I read an interview with Briend about 2 weeks ago and he absolutely raved about Gomez, who much work he did last yr and the huge strides he had made with his velo and off-speed stuff. He added a hard tight SL and was sitting 97-98 and touched 100 in ST.

In that interview Briend seemed like he was healthy and that Gomez was expected to start the yr in High A with Medina and Viz, giving them quite the 3 headed monster. MILB.com have him listed as the expected starter tomorrow but i have no idea if that accurate

Florial actually has 5 hits, 2 doubles and 3hrs and is hitting 333/.412/1.067 overall. I agree i would much rather see Florial taking off speed pitches the other way but i'm still thrilled to see him off to such a hot start in AA.

Florial has always been a toolshed, he just needed to learn how to recognize off speed stuff. With the start that Florial is off to between the ALT site, hitting around .300 with 6hrs and what he's doing at AA so far, i'm really hoping he turned the corner last yr. Florial has always been know as a gym rat, with an incredible work ethic and an immense desire to improve everyday, to go along with his natural elite talent, I would bet on him becoming atleast avg at pitch recognition. With as well as he controls the barrel when he makes contact and his lightning fast hands/bat speed i would actually be kinda surprised if he didn't atleast improve that aspect of his game

Most people, myself included forget how much development time he's lost to freak injuries then losing last yr. He's only played 395 career games since 2015, the most he's ever played in a yr is 110 games. He's had multiple broken bones and wrist issues from running into walls trying to make all world defensive plays and he's still only 23. He still has lots of time to develop and refine his game before he's a finished product

Because of his ability to play elite defense at all 3 OF positions, plus-plus speed, plus-plus arm and being a LHed bat with power, his floor is an above avg 4th OFer. If he can cut down his k% and learn to hit breaking balls better he has a chance to be a star. The good news for him is he's going to get longer to figure it out than most prospects because his floor is still a very valuable MLB player. He's actually someone we could really use with Talkman gone, Gardy likely done at the end of the yr and Hick tendency to be get hurt and his decline from the LH side.

If Hicks keeps hitting so badly from the LH side and Florial keep hitting well, why not give him a look for a week or so. I'm not sure he could be worse than Hicks/ Gardy and Frazier have been so far. I'm not saying give him a starting role but give him a look as our 4th OF

I really am hoping for a big bounce back yr from him and for him to regain his former prospect shine he's lost. I'd be very happy if he was our starting CFer at some point next yr with Hicks being the 4th OFer

Hauver hit his 5th hr of the yr and now has 13rbi's in 4 games. He's hitting a ridiculous .800/.824/2.924

Tampa Tarpons
Tampa came back from an early 6-0 deficit to defeat the Dunedin Blue Jays 12-11. They are 5-0 in the early going. The Tarpons have now scored 77 runs in their first 5 games of the season, which is honestly just ridiculous. If you’re staying up late wondering where DoTF is, you can blame the hilariously Tampa good offense (and hilariously bad pitching from Dunedin).

Third Round Watch: 2B Trevor Hauver: 1-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 BB – his 3-run blast was Hauver’s 5th HR of the season…his bat is red-hot but I am curious to hear how his defense is after the Yanks moved him back to the infield
Hitting Star: 1B Chad Bell: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 BB, 4 RBI – Bell’s grand slam in the 3rd got Tampa back in the game and closed the gap from 6-1 to 6-5
Leftovers: lots of offense…the 6-9 hitters (including Bell) were 6-13 with 3 walks…Andres Chapparo added 2 hits

Voit 2-3 1hr, 2b, 3rbis. Hauver went deep again for his 6th hr in 5 games. This kid is off to unreal start.

Luis Medina 5.0IP, 1H,0ER, 2BB, 7KS . Season totals thru 2 starts.0.00ERA 9IN, 2H, 3BB, 15KS, 0 ERS, He's struck out 15 of the 33 hitters he faced. Wow, i would say he's picked up right where he left on in the Caribbean Series. If he has another couple games like this you would have to think they would bump him up to AA. So far hitters at this level haven't been able to touch him. With how he performed this winter and the start that he is off to, I wonder if he's even being challenged in High A?

The RailRiders improved to 5-1 with a 15-10 victory over the Syracuse Mets today. It was a great day for the offense but a rough day for the pitchers, who walked 9 Mets even as they struck out 10.

The ‘Gades climbed back to .500 and improved to 3-3 on the season with a dominant 10-1 victory over the BlueClaws. As is always the case when he pitches, Luis Medina was the big story – he turned in another good performance today. He’s definitely my favorite prospect to follow right now.

Tampa Tarpons
The Tarpons showed that they are indeed mortal, dropping their first game of the season 4-1 today. They are 5-1 on the season. It was the first game in which they did not absolutely explode offensively, but they still scored 78 runs in 6 games this week. They earned their off-day tomorrow, that’s for sure.

Starting Pitcher: RHP Matt Sauer: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 5 K – 60% of his pitches went for strikes…allowed two home runs…a rough second outing for the 22-year-old, who didn’t allow a run in 3.1 innings in his debut earlier this week

We have quite a few specs off to great starts, were seeing lots of very good things so farm down on the farm. The best part is alot of our best specs, especially position player wise, have even started the season yet because they will start the yr off in SS leagues .

Between what Florial reportedly hit at the ALT site to begin the yr, hitting around .300 with 6hrs and the start that he is off to, he's making a big statement that he still can be an elite player. If he keeps hitting like this and Hicks, Gardy and Frazier keep drastically under performing, he could force his way into the lineup discussion. He also has that he is a LHed power hitter with plus, plus speed on his side.

What do you say about Hauver at this point? he’s hitting .556, with6HRs & 13 RBI's in 4 games. Obviously he's not this good but you gotta start wondering if we didn't get a huge steal in the 3rd round. He's making a hell of a statement, as well as making his value skyrocket. It will be interesting to see how long he stays in lowA

Medina is off to one hell of a start and proving that his numbers from this winter and the improved command weren't a fluke. He's pitched 9IN, 0ER, only give up 2H and 3BB while striking out 15 of the 33 batters he's faced. Doesn't look like the hitters at High A can touch him. They wanted him to show that what he did this winter was for real and to gain confidence starting in High A. After 2 dominant starts he looks like he needs to face better competition. Then again with as good as his stuff is when he's on he probably won't face a real challenge until he gets to AAA

I read the article. It was 12, not 17... but still very impressive. Extrapolate that to 500 at bats and you have 30 homeruns.

i'm getting old, lol you're right, i read the 2 as a 7 ... still very impressive.. we've always dreamed on his 30-30 type talent. It seem based on last yr and what he's doing this yr, he's finally found his power stoke.

With the kind of bat speed and hard contact he makes, especially being LHed, he could really thrive playing half his game with the short porch.

If he can come anywhere close to his ceiling, he's going to be special. He's got the floor of a very good 4th OFer but if he starts making consistent contact, Hicks is going to have trouble keeping his job

I didn't realize that he got all his outs by strikeout until you mentioned that... impressive. He's gone from the high 80's low 90's to sitting 96+ and reportedly touching 98-99 from the LH side. I think he kinda gets overshadowed by all the premium arms ahead of him

If he continues to develop he's got mid rotation starter written all over him. He is 23 and only competing in High A, so i would like to see how he does against guys closer to his age

I think his ceiling is even higher than that. Any lefty who sits upper 90's has an ace ceiling. Not saying he will hit that ceiling, but Waldichuk has that kind of potential with this velocity.

Mario Garza, the Yankees coordinator of baseball development who is filling in for 1B coach Reggie Willits, said the GCL season is slated to start June 28. That is likely the starting point for touted OF prospect Jasson Dominguez. Dominguez is "as good as advertised," Garza said.

I hope that you're right and he has that kind of ceiling. I know he has a huge leg up on most pitching specs being LHed with that kinda velo but I really don't know enough about his off speed stuff. I know his CB and CU are solid avg but i haven't heard if they expect 1 or both to become plus pitches.

In relief: RHP Carlos Espinal: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR – 27 of 47 pitches were strikes (57%). Took the loss.

In relief: RHP Elvis Peguero: 3.1 IP, 1 K, zeroes – 23 of 31 pitches were strikes (74%). What a way to finish this one off. Had to deal with the extra innings rule too. Allowed just one baserunner on an error (Peguero’s own).

The Tarpons have typically been on the other side of blowouts this season. Tonight, Tampa lost 15-4 to Lakeland (box score).

I want a team that runs like hell

RHP Glen Otto won the Double-A Northeast League Pitcher of the Week. He threw six shutout innings and faced just one batter over the minimum. Otto was a non-roster invitee to spring training and cracked MLB Pipeline’s top-30 Yankees prospects list.
OF Zack Zehner was bumped up to Triple-A from Double-A. Seems like just some roster shuffling. Zehner is 28.
OF Jasson Dominguez faced Luis Severino in the rehabbing righty’s first live batting practice today (Marly Rivera).

Double-A Somerset Patriots
The Patriots improved to 6-3 with a 6-1 win over New Hampshire (box score). They did so in spite of going just 1-for-19 with runners in scoring position. Incredible.

Starting pitcher: RHP Janson Junk: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K – 39 of 62 pitches were strikes (63%). Very good performance for a pitcher with a very good pitcher name.
In relief: LHP J.P. Sears: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K – 37 of 61 pitches were strikes (61%). Sears struck out 46.4 percent of hitters in the Mariners’ organization in 2017, but only 23.6 percent in the Yankees’ system. More of this would be nice.

Florial Watch: DH Estevan Florial: 1-5, 1B – didn’t strike out, which is always nice to see. Florial’s biggest drawback is his propensity to swing-and-miss…has a 23 percent strikeout rate so far.
Hitting Star: CF Thomas Milone: 2-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 SB – Was a solo homer, his third so far…his career high is four homers…hitting .385/.469/.846
Hitting Star: 3B Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-4, 2 2B, 1 BB, 1 K – Left unprotected from Rule 5 draft…the two doubles were his first extra base hits of the season…also made fielding error.
Leftovers: Diego Castillo (double) and Michael Beltre (triple) had extra base hits

High-A Hudson Valley Renegades
Hudson Valley fell to 4-5 after losing 9-5 to Aberdeen tonight (box score). Game was 3-3 through six innings, but the IronBirds put up five in the eighth to put this on away.

Starting pitcher: RHP Jhony Brito: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K – 43 of 67 pitches were strikes (64%). All runs came in first inning after Brito retired first two batters he faced.
In relief: RHP Zach Greene: 3.0 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 4 K – 28 of 47 pitches were strikes (60%)…the run he gave up was inherited by Tanner Myatt.
In relief: RHP Tanner Myatt: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 2 K – 18 of 43 pitches were strikes (42%)…6-foot-7 righty has had control problems for his entire minor league career, now has 61 walks in 62 innings.

Prospect watch: SS Ezequiel Duran: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K – Typically plays second base, not short. This nice play was credited to Peraza, but it’s not clear by the video whether it was Duran or Peraza…I’m going by the box score.
Prospect watch: C Josh Breaux: 0-4, 2 K – Hitting .161/.278/.387 with 13 strikeouts in 36 plate appearances…rough start for the former second round pick in 2018.
Leftovers: Other than Breaux, everyone in the lineup had a hit…1B Steven Sensley had two, including a double…CF Brandon Lockridge was replaced defensively in the ninth inning, not sure why.

Single-A Tampa Tarpons
Tampa lost 3-2 to Lakeland (box score). The Tarpons are 6-3.

Starting pitcher: RHP Jhonatan Munoz: 2.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K – 32 of 46 pitches were strikes (70%). Better than his first start, at least. Gave up 5 runs in 1.1 IP in his season debut.
In relief: RHP Connor Pellerin: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 2 K – 18 of 44 pitches were strikes (41%). That must have been painful to watch.

Regarding Florial, that swing amd miss would lead me to believe he over swings. It’s not just recognition. A good, quick bat can hit bad pitches if they really shorten up

True. But if you are fooled no amount of bat speed will help. You are swing over the top or under the ball, not always or only a matter of catching up, but rather adjusting the plane of the swing. Particularly on off speed breaking stuff, if you fail to recognize you are swinging at where "the ball was not where it is." Hanging mistakes he should be hammering I agree.
