Hell of a first start in AA, 102 on the gun... Showing out just in time for Cashman and his urgency

20. Yankees: Gunnar Hoglund, RHP, Mississippi
The Yankees wouldn’t mind if Benny Montgomery made it here, but save that, they’re not afraid of taking a Tommy John surgery guy like Hoglund and could also look at Florida high school right-hander Andrew Painter.
We've been connected to him quit a bit since his injury. If he gets to them he could end up being a steal
All the mock drafts that i've seen lately have us connected to pitching mostly, seems as there is some interest in a C and a HS OFer
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (25-11): Hoy Jun Park’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game set the stage for Brantly’s heroics in the tenth as the RailRiders overcame an early 5-2 deficit to win 10-7 over Syracuse.
Star of the Game: Rob Brantly – 2-for-5, 1 home run (3), 3 RBI, 2 runs scored. With runners on second and third and one out in the tenth of a tie game, Brantly could’ve simply lifted a fly ball to the outfield; instead, he lifted one over the wall
Hoy Jun Park: 1-for-2, 1 RBI, 4 walks. Park got on base all night long and extended the game with his one-out single in the ninth
Estevan Florial: 1-for-4, 3 runs scored, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts
Trey Amburgey: 1-for-5, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
Thomas Milone: 3-for-5, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
Luis Gil: 5 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 95 pitches (58 strikes). Gil was tagged for two home runs in his Triple-A debut
Brooks Kriske: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 32 pitches (19 strikes)
Sal Romano: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 4 pitches (2 strikes)
Reggie McClain: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 34 pitches (25 strikes)
Nick Goody: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 11 pitches (8 strikes). Goody’s perfect top of the tenth earned him his fourth win of the year
Somerset Patriots (23-13): A wild, back-and-forth affair saw the Patriots tie the score in the bottom of the ninth and rally twice in extras to emerge with a 7-5 win over Richmond.
Star of the Game: Donny Sands – 1-for-5, 1 home run (6), 3 RBI, 1 run scored. Sands hit his third home run in the last two nights in the bottom of the 11th inning to send everybody home happy
Luke Voit: 0-for-3, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
Oswald Peraza: 1-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
Diego Castillo: 3-for-5, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Castillo has opened the series against the Flying Squirrels with back-to-back three-hit games
Michael Beltre: 2-for-4
Isiah Gilliam: 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout. Gilliam’s clutch two-out double scored the tying run in the bottom of the ninth
Luis Medina: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 10 K, 91 pitches (59 strikes). The first domino to fall (or rise?) in Hudson Valley’s dominant rotation trio was Medina, who thoroughly impressed in his Double-A debut
Michael Gomez: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 23 pitches (17 strikes)
Keegan Curtis: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 19 pitches (12 strikes)
Stephen Ridings: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 5 K, 33 pitches (26 strikes)
Zach Greene: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 4 pitches (4 strikes)
Hudson Valley Renegades (21-15): A see-saw matchup between the BlueClaws and Renegades ended in Jersey Shore’s favor by a 6-4 score.
Star of the Game: Josh Breaux – 4-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Breaux followed up his walk-off home run on Tuesday with his fourth multi-hit game and first with four hits this season
Josh Smith: 2-for-4, 1 double, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Anthony Seigler: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
Mitch Spence: 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 67 pitches (43 strikes)
Charlie Ruegger: 1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 38 pitches (18 strikes)
Nick Ernst: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 44 pitches (29 strikes)
Justin Wilson: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 34 pitches (19 strikes)
Tampa Tarpons (27-11): A rain-shortened evening saw Bradenton take home a six-inning victory over the Tarpons, 3-2.
Star of the Game: Anthony Volpe – 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout. Volpe recorded Tampa’s only extra-base hit of the night and boasts a healthy .955 OPS
Austin Wells: 0-for-3, 2 strikeouts
Trevor Hauver: 0-for-2, 2 strikeouts
Pedro Diaz: 1-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 run scored
Jhonatan Munoz: 4 IP, 1 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 62 pitches (38 strikes)
Anderson Munoz: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 19 pitches (11 strikes)

Gil got roughed up in his first start. Good! See how he adjusts and regroups.
Medina had a decent first AA start. Ks right up where they have been.
Can they please call up Park?
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (26-11): Two early home runs lifted Scranton to an easy 4-2 win over the bottom-dwelling Syracuse Mets.
Star of the Game: Socrates Brito – 2-for-3, 1 home run (5), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk. Brito’s first-inning blast got things going for the RailRiders
Estevan Florial: 0-for-3, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Kellin Deglan: 1-for-3, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Deglan is 4 for his last 10 with two extra-base hits
Brody Koerner: 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 68 pitches (43 strikes)
Trevor Lane: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 26 pitches (15 strikes). The winning pitcher on Thursday, Lane hasn’t allowed a run in a single outing this season other than his implosion on May 22
Greg Weissert: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 21 pitches (10 strikes). A successful enough Triple-A debut for the veteran reliever
Sal Romano: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 17 pitches (11 strikes)
Luis Garcia: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 9 pitches (8 strikes). Garcia wasted no time in securing an efficient 11th save
Michael Beltre. Photo by Matt Kardos.
Somerset Patriots (25-13): Ken Waldichuk endured some struggles for the first time this season, but his offense picked him up. Four home runs proved the difference as the Patriots trounced Richmond 9-3.
Star of the Game: Oswaldo Cabrera – 3-for-4, 2 home runs (6), 2 RBI, 3 runs scored. Cabrera hit two solo home runs, one in the third inning and one in the seventh, to pace Somerset’s offense
Michael Beltre: 2-for-5, 1 home run (6), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. After a 1-for-17 stretch earlier this month, Beltre is 9 for his last 18
Oswald Peraza: 0-for-3, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Diego Castillo: 3-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored. It could be time for a new challenge for Castillo. Thursday marked his third consecutive game with three hits
Donny Sands: 1-for-3, 1 home run (7), 4 RBI, 1 run scored. The veteran catcher is on a tear, with four home runs in his last three games. He’s raised his slugging percentage more than a hundred points in less than a week
Ken Waldichuk: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 7 K, 93 pitches (53 strikes). Nobody said it’d be easy, right? Waldichuk showed flashes in his Somerset debut but was also bitten by five walks and two home runs. Given that he didn’t give up a single run in High-A all season, we can all afford to be patient
Nick Green: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 36 pitches (21 strikes). Green picked up the win in relief
Ron Marinaccio: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 26 pitches (19 strikes)
Shawn Semple. Photo by Matt Kardos
Hudson Valley Renegades (22-15): Two out of three of Hudson Valley’s trio of aces have been promoted to Somerset – but Shawn Semple, sent in the other direction, looks set to take their place. The Renegades got the better of Jersey Shore 3-2 thanks to Semple’s sparkling outing.
Star of the Game: Shawn Semple – 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K, 90 pitches (60 strikes). Semple wasn’t having a bad year at Somerset by any stretch and can’t be thrilled about the demotion, but he showed he’s no match for High-A hitters in dominating the BlueClaws
Josh Smith: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
Anthony Seigler: 2-for-4, 1 caught stealing
Elijah Dunham: 3-for-3, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
Oliver Dunn: 1-for-3, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Dunn’s second-inning solo blast put the Renegades up by two
Nelson L. Alvarez: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 26 pitches (19 strikes)
Derek Craft: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K, 24 pitches (11 strikes). Craft, a 2018 draft selection making his High-A debut, ran into some trouble with his control but recovered to notch a save
Hoy Jun Park 2 R 1 H 2BB .372 BA .519 OBP 1.186 OPS
Let me get this straight, a guy who is in your own system, who is a lefty contact bat, can steal bases and play plus defense doesn't deserve more reps than Odor?
I looked at their 40 man and it's a **** show. Peraza is on the 40 man. I love it but it's weird. It's also weird how many pitchers are on it, I know with injuries and flexibility you'd want more pitchers than potion players but as far as I saw, Peraza and Florial are the only position players in the minors on the 40 man.
8 pitchers and 2 position players.
It sucks but I think Park is going to have a tough time getting called. Voit is almost ready and Gittens is heating up which makes first solidified, meaning DJ won't be playing there, he will play second. Torres looks like he's fine, so there's nowhere to play Park.
I've said that if they are within 5 at the break, they will be buyers. Say goodbye to Park
If they lose, and end up 10 or more back, I could see them moving Gio and Voit, which could clear a spot for Park but barring a more serious injury to Torres, I don't think he gets a shot.
The only reasons i can think of why they haven't given Park a shot yet are that the energy and "glue" Odor brings to the clubhouse means more than his BA or the just flat don't believe what Park is doing is sustainable in the MLB.
Tyler Wade was a much, much better hitter in AAA than his number at the MLB level would suggest. I believe Slick mentioned it before, but Wade is down something like .50 points down across the board .
Another possibility is they actually do see a place for Park and Ambergy, they both are killing it in AAA, and if they put them on the 40 man , they could take a chance on loosing them later in the yr.
I'm really going to hope that the reason those 2 haven't been given a chance yet is they don't want to risk loosing them later. I think they still have Sevy, Kluber and O Day on the 60 day IL, which mean if they make it back they will have to clear 40 man spots for them, plus any trades they might make.... If you absolutely know your going to need 40 man spots for guys you expect back who would you rather see cut Odor and Gittens or possibly Park and Ambergy
Their 40 man is kinda a mess because they had to put some prospects like Peraza, Medina, Gil and a couple other guys with huge talent but a couple couple yrs away on the 40 man or risk loosing them just like they lost Whitlock in the rule 5 draft.
Hopefully they see a future for a guy like Park but don't want to risk having to lose him when they re forced to create 40 man room when/if Sevy, Kluber and ODay get back
No one is disputing that, but it's rather the decision to go so long with bruce and ford that is the problem.
True, but based purely on talent it's hard to argue against what the yankees gave up for Taillon. Roansy is as good, if not better than Gil or Medina, neither of which are rated in the top 100 either. I doubt you'd trade either for another pitcher with 2 tj surgeries, am i right? Miguel Yajure was already in the pirate rotation this season as a 22 year old, until he landed on the IL. Canaan and Escotto were minor league stars in their first years. There is some major talent here that is at worse equal to a healthy fowler, kap and mateo imo. But ultimately the argument is moot, because the reality is both Kap and Fowler were seriously injured when they were traded.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (27-11): The RailRiders came back late to win their fourth in a row over the doormat Mets and their sixth in a row overall, 7-5.
Star of the Game: Albert Abreu – 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 31 pitches (20 strikes). Any number of hitters could’ve earned this honor, but it goes to Abreu for his multi-inning save during which he at least temporarily solved his biggest issue: a lack of control
Greg Allen: 2-for-5, 1 home run (1), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Allen chose a perfect moment for his first Scranton home run: down by one run, two outs, and one man on base in the bottom of the seventh
Trey Amburgey: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
Derek Dietrich: 1-for-2, 1 home run (4), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
Rob Brantly: 2-for-4, 1 home run (4), 3 RBI, 1 run scored. The veteran Brantly is on a tear lately – he’s 6 for his last 17 with two homers over that stretch
Nick Nelson: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 66 pitches (40 strikes). Friday was Nelson’s longest outing of the season at any level
Adam Warren: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 38 pitches (23 strikes). Warren relieved Nelson in the fifth and gave up a fielder’s choice, two walks, and a grand slam
Braden Bristo: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 11 pitches (7 strikes). Despite serving up a bomb to veteran major leaguer Jeff McNeil, Bristo emerged with the win
JP Sears pitching for the Somerset Patriots on May 7, 2021. (Chris Jones)
Somerset Patriots (26-13): Somerset has won five in a row and six of seven since dropping four straight last week. Two home runs and lockdown pitching from partners-in-crime Janson Junk and JP Sears did the job in an 8-1 win over Richmond.
Star of the Game: Luke Voit – 3-for-4, 1 home run (1), 3 RBI, 3 runs scored. This was certainly Voit’s best game of either rehab stint this season. It shouldn’t be long before he rejoins the Yankees lineup
Oswald Peraza: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
Oswaldo Cabrera: 3-for-4, 1 double, 3 RBI. Cabrera drove in three runs during the game’s first two innings with a single and a double
Thomas Milone: 2-for-4, 1 home run (4), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. After a month with Scranton, Milone was re-assigned back to Somerset and picked up right where he left off
Janson Junk: 6 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 75 pitches (48 strikes). Junk has a miniscule 1.03 ERA in 35 innings this season
JP Sears: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K, 47 pitches (30 strikes). Sears picked up a multi-inning save and lowered his own ERA to 1.98
Yankees infield prospect Ezequiel Duran at the plate for the Staten Island Yankees (Robert M. Pimpsner/Pinstriped Prospects)
Hudson Valley Renegades (23-16): The streaking ‘Gades split a doubleheader with Jersey Shore, losing the first game 6-2 and capturing the nightcap 2-0.
Game 1
Star of the Game: Josh Smith – 1-for-3, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Smith smacked his second leadoff home run in a Hudson Valley uniform – but the Renegades were already down 4-1 at that point
Ezequiel Duran: 1-for-3, 1 run scored
James Nelson: 1-for-3, 1 RBI
Josh Maciejewski: 3 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 69 pitches (44 strikes)
Elvis Peguero: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 2 K, 38 pitches (26 strikes)
Charlie Ruegger: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 7 pitches (5 strikes)
Game 2
Star of the Game: Matt Minnick – 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 55 pitches (34 strikes). Minnick earned the win in a dazzling relief outing
Josh Smith: 2-for-3, 1 triple, 1 double, 1 strikeout. On the day, Smith only missed the cycle by a single
Ezequiel Duran: 2-for-2, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 walk. During this doubleheader, Smith and Duran combined to drive in three of the Renegades’ four total runs. They went a combined 6-for-11 while the rest of their team managed six hits total
Jefry Valdez: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 55 pitches (33 strikes)
Justin Wilson: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 9 pitches (6 strikes). Wilson grabbed an uneventful save
Randy Vasquez (Photo by John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)
Tampa Tarpons (27-13): Hopefully just a quick bump in the road for the most successful of all Yankees affiliates, who dropped both halves of their doubleheader to Bradenton 3-1 and 8-2.
Game 1
Star of the Game: Randy Vasquez – 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 7 K, 79 pitches (55 strikes). Vasquez was wildly impressive and received no run support. He has put together a great season at just 22 years of age, striking out 34 over 30.1 innings
Juan De Leon: 1-for-2, 1 home run (4), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. De Leon’s fifth-inning solo home was the extent of the Tarpons’ offense in this one
Anthony Volpe: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 walk
Austin Wells: 0-for-3, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Trevor Hauver: 0-for-4, 3 strikeouts
Nelvin Correa: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 32 pitches (17 strikes)
Game 2
Star of the Game: Jesus Bastidas – 2-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk. Slim pickings for stars in this game. Bastidas was the only Tarpon with more than one hit. That’ll have to suffice
Anthony Volpe: 1-for-1, 1 double
Trevor Hauver: 0-for-2, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. Hauver was never going to sustain his blistering early May pace, but the drop-off has been swift
Austin Wells: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
Ryan Anderson: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, 34 pitches (13 strikes)
Edgar Barclay: 3.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 75 pitches (51 strikes)
Wellington Diaz: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 39 pitches (20 strikes)
Tanner Myatt: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 19 pitches (12 strikes)
Peraza seems to be starting to catch up to AA
Junk needs a promotion.
Odor, a .190 hitter, has not only blocked Park this season but also Gittens it seems. The yankees love their sub .200 hitting veterans. :laugh2:
Wesneski was hit hard in his first AA outing 4IN, 7H, 6ER, 2BB, 3Ks
Gotta admit it looks like i was very wrong about the Volpe pick being like previous HS SS they have taken in the 1st round.
Kid is absolutely tearing the cover off the ball in A ball, he just hit his 7th & 8th HRs on the yr and is hitting .307 with a 1.033 OPS.
He's also being playing pretty good defense at SS. He''s really looking like a really solid spec going forward
Peraza had a 3 hit game with a HR, his avg is .
For a team that wasn't considered very deep spec wise in the middle INF coming into the yr, that has changed drastically since the start of the MILB season.
We have Volpe and Hauver in low A, Duran and Smith in High A, Peraza, Cabrera and Castillio in AA and Park in AAA. Thats not even counting what we have in the lower levels. IMO, thats some very good talent we have coming up the middle
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (27-11): The weather has done more damage to the RailRiders this week than the Syracuse Mets have. Saturday’s game was postponed and will be made up on July 7.
Somerset Patriots (26-14): Hayden Wesneski’s Double-A debut went poorly and the Patriots suffered a 14-5 blowout loss to Richmond.
Star of the Game: Oswald Peraza – 3-for-4, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk. Peraza was the only Patriot with more than one hit, and crushed one of three Somerset solo homers on the night
Luke Voit: 1-for-1, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Might we see Voit activated next week?
Jason Lopez: 1-for-4, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Lopez added a garbage-time blow in the ninth
Hayden Wesneski: 4 IP, 7 H, 7 R (6 ER), 2 BB, 4 K, 87 pitches (52 strikes). The erstwhile HV Big Three are now all with Somerset, and Wesneski joined Ken Waldichuk in struggling his first time out
Kevin Gadea: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 32 pitches (19 strikes)
Michael Gomez: 1 IP, 4 H, 6 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 0 K, 25 pitches (17 strikes)
Addison Russ: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 9 pitches (8 strikes)
Zach Greene: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 17 pitches (11 strikes)
Hudson Valley Renegades (24-16): A five-run sixth inning powered the ‘Gades to an 8-4 win over Jersey Shore.
Star of the Game: James Nelson – 2-for-4, 1 home run (3), 3 RBI, 1 run scored. Nelson drove the first pitch he saw in the sixth inning over the left field wall, vaulting Hudson Valley into the lead
Ezequiel Duran: 0-for-4, 2 strikeouts
Josh Breaux: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Elijah Dunham: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
Oliver Dunn: 2-for-4, 1 home run (3), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored. Dunn followed Nelson with a solo blast to increase the advantage
Frederick Cuevas: 2-for-4, 2 doubles, 1 RBI
Reid Anderson: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R (1 ER), 4 BB, 1 K, 53 pitches (26 strikes). This was Anderson’s first appearance following his midweek demotion from Somerset
Barrett Loseke: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 44 pitches (25 strikes)
Nick Ernst: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 31 pitches (23 strikes). Ernst was excellent in earning his second win, and the 24-year-old right-hander has struck out 36 and walked eight in 19.1 innings
Derek Craft: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 24 pitches (13 strikes)
Austin Wells (Photo by John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)
Tampa Tarpons (28-13): Anthony Volpe put the team on his back Saturday night, homering twice including a walk-off solo shot as Tampa came from behind to beat Bradenton 7-6.
Star of the Game: Anthony Volpe – 3-for-5, 2 home runs (8), 1 triple, 4 RBI, 3 runs scored. Volpe is simply unstoppable right now. He has an active 15-game hitting streak during which he’s homered six times, including two multi-homer games, and also stolen five bases. On Saturday, he hit a three-run homer to tie the game at five in the seventh, and then took an 0-2 pitch deep to left in the ninth to win the ballgame. The kid’s doing it all
Austin Wells: 2-for-4, 1 home run (5), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. On any other night, Wells is probably the main star. He went deep in the first inning to put Tampa ahead 2-0
Trevor Hauver: 1-for-3, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Pat DeMarco: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 walk
Beck Way: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 43 pitches (20 strikes). Make it 10 walks and eight strikeouts in 10.1 innings now for Way
Matt Sauer: 4.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R (3 ER), 2 BB, 5 K, 85 pitches (59 strikes). This was Sauer’s first relief appearance this season
Trevor Holloway: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 26 pitches (13 strikes). Holloway relieved Sauer with the bases loaded in the eighth and struck out former Yankee farmhand Maikol Escotto, but then walked in the game-tying run. Nevertheless, he finished the inning and then retired the side in order in the ninth to earn the win
Diego needs to be promoted I think, but he's blocked by Derek Dietrich in AAA :laugh2:
Volpe is hitting .414 with a 1.400+ OPS in June
Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders
Hoy Park blased a walk-off solo homer to win this one, 4-3 (box score). Scranton was down 3-0 after an inning, but a three-run sixth leveled it before Park’s homer won it.
Starting Pitcher: RHP Deivi García: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K — 49 of 80 pitches were strikes (61%)…Still not great, but at least he only walked one batter. Has issued 23 free passes in 27.2 innings this season.
In relief: RHP Brooks Kriske: 0.2 IP, K, zeroes — 5 of 7 pitches were strikes (71%).
In relief: LHP Matt Krook: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K — 20 of 38 pitches were strikes (53%)…Triple-A debut after recording a 44-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 29.1 innings in Double-A.
In relief: RHP Nick Goody: 0.2 IP, 1 K, zeroes — 6 of 9 pitches were strikes (67%)
In relief: RHP Luis García: 1.0 IP, zeroes — 3 of 4 pitches were strikes (75%)
Hitting star: SS Hoy Park: 2-5, R, HR, RBI — walk-off homer video below.
Florial hurt: CF Estevan Florial: 0-1, K, HBP — Had two outfield assists in this game too. Stayed in game after HBP (knee area), but eventually was pinch-hit for. Hopefully it’s just a bruise.
Leftovers: RF Socrates Brito had a two-run homer…LF Ryan LaMarre, 2B Derek Dietrich, DH Trey Amburgey, and 3B Armando Alvarez all had hits. Alvarez had two, in fact.
Double-A Somerset Patriots
The Patriots shut out the Flying Squirrels, 4-0 (box score). Glenn Otto had another good start and Luke Voit played another full game in his rehab stint.

Tampa fell to Bradenton, 11-6 (box score). They were down 9-1 until a five run fifth made it a three run game, but it was too little too late.

NEW HOT SHEET Fire
The three hottest pitching prospects in baseball?
1. Glenn Otto,
@SOMPatriots
2. Reid Detmers,
@trashpandas
3. Spencer Strider,
@TheRomeBraves
20. New York Yankees
Ty Madden, RHP, Texas
The Yanks have been all over prep talent, but we think a gift falls in their lap. New York hasn’t taken a college starter with their first pick in the draft since Clarke Schmidt in 2017, but we think that trend ends in 2021. There’s been some mumbling that Madden could slip a bit as of late and the Yankees would be more than happy to let Madden fall into their lap. He’s been a workhorse in a pitching-rich Texas staff this year, leading the team to a top two national seed in the tournament. Madden posted a 2.59 ERA across 94 innings with a 110:35 K:BB ratio. He’s touched 99 MPH with the fastball and has sat in the mid-90’s for a good majority of his campaign. There’s times where the fastball can get flat, but it’s a plus offering. He’s shown an ability to manipulate a slider this year, a mid-80’s offering that has plus potential. There’s a change-up in his arsenal, though it’s inconsistent. There’s reliever risk here, but if the Yankees can develop the change-up, he’ll fulfill his ceiling of a mid-rotation arm.
2 Yankee pitchers on the MILB team of the week. 2nd time in 3 weeks for both of them. Yankees have had 7 pitchers make the MILB team of the week, 3 more than the next closet teams
RHP: Glenn Otto, Somerset Patriots (Double-A)
(Yankees No. 28)
2-0, 0.69 ERA, 2 GS, 13 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 19 SO, 0.77 WHIP
Otto nabs his second PTOW nod thanks to a pair of very strong starts, going seven innings and striking out 14 on Tuesday, then coming back with six shutout frames on Sunday. He’s now gone at least six innings in all four of his June starts and leads the Double-A Northeast with 74 strikeouts (14.2 K/9) while walking just 2.5 per nine.
RP: Albert Abreu, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A)
(Yankees No. 18)
0-0, 1 SV, 0.00 ERA, 2 G, 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 10 SO, 0.75 WHIP
Abreu has already been recalled five times to help out the big league bullpen and if last week is any indication, No. 6 should come soon. The reliever had a pair of two-inning hitless outings while continuing to miss a ton of bats. He now has a 16.0 K/9 rate during his time in Triple-A while allowing just 3.7 hits per nine for a .122 BAA at that level.
I can't seem to find it anywhere else but @ JomBoy reported that Gil, Otto and Medina have moved into the top 100.. He had Hoch on the show that maybe where he got it.
We've had some incredibly impressive seasons going from a large group of players in long season ball. We're far deeper than just 4-5 legit specs like most teams have, were well into the teens with legit specs.
I can't wait to see what the majority of our top position talent does when they start playing next week.. If we have a group of kids in SS ball that are as dominate as the kids that have already playing, its hard not to see us in the top 5 range, depending what we trade away.
We've had almost twice as many Pitchers of the week awards, 7, this yr that any other organization..
The future looks incredibly exciting with all these kids how could provide alot of value to the MLB roster in the near future, one way or another
Got a message from my buddy today about the upcoming draft. He said the have been concentrating on pitchers and up the middle talents for their 1st pick. They like where they are in the draft because there is non clear cut 1-5 and even after that teams ahead of them have been all over the board.
He said they feel confident multiple top 10-15 talents will fall to them and they are just looking for the best player available not a specific need.
He said after the 1st round they would probably go bat heavy early and pitchers later on. Cressey, Briend and Blake have sold them on the idea of targeting pitchers later that have good command/ control and a good feel for spinning the ball. They believe its easier to help pitchers gain velocity and refine a feel for pitches they already have vs targeting high velo guys that lack off speed stuff and control.
He specifically brought up Waldichuk as a prime example of the philosophy.. He had the frame 6'4 220lbs, a feel for 4 pitches and a very smart pitcher that was throwing 89-91 when they drafted him in 19. Now after spending the last yr at the "gas station" he's been sitting 96-98 and has hit 99. That huge velo for a LH starter and we saw how dominate Waldi has been, not giving up a single run in high A
IMO whatever these guys have been teaching to our young pitchers, they are doing a hell of a job. We've had so many great pitching performances so far this yr, its been extremely impressive. If they can keep developing pitchers like they have so far, i'd let them draft the kinda guys they want
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (29-11): The RailRiders scored early and scored often en route to a 14-5 drubbing of the IronPigs to extend their winning streak.
Star of the Game: Andrew Velazquez – 2-for-6, 1 home run (2), 4 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Velazquez went deep as part of a three-run second inning, which was the first of three multi-run innings for Scranton. He has six multi-hit games in the month of June
Hoy Jun Park: 3-for-7, 1 double, 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, 1 strikeout. The June of Hoy Jun continues as the 25-year-old, who made his first start in center field on Tuesday, is 21-for-56 this month with four home runs and four doubles
Ryan LaMarre: 3-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
Trey Amburgey: 1-for-4, 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
Derek Dietrich: 3-for-5, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Armando Alvarez: 2-for-5, 1 home run (3), 1 double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Alvarez has two consecutive multi-hit games
Luis Gil: 4 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 7 BB, 5 K, 99 pitches (53 strikes). What a remarkable line. Gil had no control whatsoever but still battled through four hitless innings
Braden Bristo: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K, 23 pitches (13 strikes). Bristo earned the win for his scoreless fifth
Darren O’Day: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 20 pitches (10 strikes). O’Day’s rehab began in earnest as he works his way back to the big leagues
Justin Wilson: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 18 pitches (10 strikes). The elder Wilson (not the Renegades pitcher) followed his teammate O’Day with a clean inning of rehab
Trevor Lane: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 1 K, 22 pitches (15 strikes)
Albert Abreu: 1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 31 pitches (21 strikes). A disappointing night for Abreu after a string of promising outings
Somerset Patriots (27-14): The rain in Maine cancelled the game – the Patriots and Sea Dogs will make it up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow.
Mitch Spence (Brian Westerholt/Four Seam Images via AP)
Hudson Valley Renegades (26-16): Nine out of 16 Renegades hits went for extra bases as HV opened the week by pummeling Wilmington 12-3.
Star of the Game: Brandon Lockridge – 2-for-5, 1 home run (2), 4 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 strikeouts. Lockridge hadn’t homered since May 8. His three-run shot put the Renegades up 7-1
Josh Smith: 2-for-5, 1 double, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
Josh Breaux: 2-for-5, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
James Nelson: 2-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
Chad Bell: 3-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Bell had his first multi-hit game in a Renegades uniform
Frederick Cuevas: 2-for-4, 1 home run (2), 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored
Mitch Spence: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 73 pitches (46 strikes). Spence has 30 strikeouts in 26.2 innings this year
Elvis Peguero: 2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 42 pitches (28 strikes)
Matt Minnick: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 23 pitches (17 strikes)
Tampa Tarpons (28-14): Tampa was leading Lakeland 2-0 in the top of the second when the game was suspended. It’ll be picked up tomorrow.
Just my opinion, but they really need to give Park a shot.
Park and Amb should replace Frazier(Triple A) and Stinky(DFA)
Sent from my SM-G981U using Tapatalk
They need to do something. I really hope that is the route they choose but I feel like, if they thought Amburgey was legit, they would've called him up already. I wonder if his trade value is what they are considering with him and fear it will decline at the next level?
I love the idea of those two getting a shot. They are both kind of stuck right now and they are not getting the attention that the shiny, new prospects are getting.
I still think Clint can be a really, really good hitter but he needs something to happen.
Yanks Farm system power rankings, this isn't based on who is the best prospect, just which prospect have played the best over the last week.
1 Volpe A SS Claims the top spot after leading the farm in doubles [15], runs [37], RBIs [36], and stolen bases [16], and second in home runs [8] and walks [33].
2 Josh Smith A+ SS OPSing 1.051 with nine extra-base hits in 12 games since his promotion to high-A.
3 Waldichuk AA SP leads the farm in starter's ERA [0.76] but has dropped to second in strikeouts [62] and WHIP [0.93] after so-so Double-A debut this week. Also had a 30.2 IN stretch without giving up a run in A+
4 Oswald Peraza AA SS Hasn't skipped a beat since his Double-A promotion; batting average, slugging, and OPS are all pretty much identical to high-A showing and that's a great sign for him going forward. With as quickly as he made the adjustment from high A to AA, which is usually the most difficult jumps for specs, definitely
a positive sign of his true talent level
5 Trey Amburgey AAA COF . He has been tearing the cover off the ball and even has about 90 games of experience in CF . His 1.059 OPS ranks second only behind Smith and he has more RBIs 29 than games played 23 thus far.
6 Elijah Dunham A+ sporting a .441 on-base percentage and he smacked three doubles with four walks and four runs scored in his first week in high-A Hudson Valley.
7 Hoy Jun Park AAA SS Batting .366 in his first month of Triple-A so far with six home runs and a ridiculous .504 on-base percentage.
8 Glenn Otto AA SP Was named #1 on the yr from BA as the hottest pitcher in the MILB. His consecutive streak of starts of atleast 6IN, 10k's + was broken his last time out. His 74 K's lead our system and his 1.00 Whip ranks 4th
9 Stephen Ridings AA RP Even though one walk this week doubled his season total and Sports a miniscule 0.52 WHIP ratio in 2021 keep him in the top 10
10 Luis Medina AA SP Had 8 pitches over 100 MPH, touching 102.4 and K'd 10 in his 1st start in AA. 2 of the 3 runs he gave up scored after he left the game, extremely impressive AA debut. his 60 Ks rank third on the farm and like Otto he's limiting base runners too [1.15 WHIP].
11 Zach Greene AA RP Opposing batters are hitting a pathetic .099 against Greene, as he has allowed just 7 hitting in 22.1 innings.
12 Ezequiel Duran A+ Slow week saw him with just one extra-base hit but he did manage to swipe four bases, based on his performance so far this yr he stay
13 Janson Junk AA SP Inflated ERA [4.50] disguises an otherwise great start to his season, including tying Waldichuk for the most strikeouts [55] and posting a tiny 1.09 WHIP thus far.
14 Jason Junk AA P Inflated ERA [4.50] disguises an otherwise great start to his season, including tying Waldichuk for the most strikeouts [55] and posting a tiny 1.09 WHIP thus far
15 Austin Wells A C/DH Had a three-hit game this past week and has a current four-game hit streak as well. He also starting to find his power stroke and has 7 SB on the yr for a C/DH. The Over all athleticism is impressive for a C
16 Luis Gil AAA SP Hasn't has the smoothest transition moving from AA to AAA but he had 4 hitless innings last night but gave up 7BB and 7ks. When he gets comfortable at AAA the results could be special
17 Hayden Wesneski AA SP Got roughed up [4 IP, 7 R] in his Double-A debut this week; his overall numbers are now threading middle of the pack territory in a very impressive farm system this year.
18 Donny Sands AA C Had four home runs this week [his career high in any season prior was four] to get him up to seven so far this season. His game is becoming very Higashioka-like.
19 Diego Castillo AA INF Had three straight three-hit games to give him a blistering .353 average in June so far; his .662 slugging percentage this month as one of the youngest in Double-A means he's back on the prospect radar too.
20 Albert Abreau AAA RP Had to impressive multi inning scoreless outings last weeks but struggled with his command giving up 3 walks in his 3rd outing of the week. He consistently sitting 98-101 and if the control continues to improve as it has, he could be an absolute monster in the BP for us later this yr. While Abreau, who reminds me alot of Loaisiga last yr when he was first adjusting to being in the BP full time. Abreau has a very similar arm to Loaisiga in terms of stuff, velo and ability to throw multiple innings. If/ when he gets more comfortable out of the BP he has a chance to be elite in the mold of Betances and Lasagna
Park played centerfield the other day. They think highly of him and are apparently considering a callup soon. He could play some CF.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1407812143643246596 Medina 89 MPH CU to end the 1st
https://twitter.com/i/status/1407817347889602564 Medina wicked CB for strike 3
https://twitter.com/i/status/1407818104592289792 Back to back 99mph FB's
Overall Medina struggled badly with his command tonight 4.1 IN, 6H, 5ER, 6BB, 5Ks. Definately a little disappointing after the dominance of his 1st start..
It might take all 3 starters that were just bumped up from A+, a few starts to get used to pitching to the quality of hitters in AA. Nothing really to be concerned about at this point
Waldichuk had an amazing 2nd start in AA he had a no hitter through 5 , struck out the 1st batter of the 6th then gave up a base hit and a HR that end his night. Final line 2H,2R,2ER,4BB 10K's He was 96-98 all night with a wipeout slider
Star of the Game: Brooks Kriske – 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 29 pitches (23 strikes). Kriske earned these honors this evening with three innings of lockdown relief
Hoy Jun Park: 1-for-5, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Ryan LaMarre: 2-for-6, 1 strikeout
Trey Amburgey: 1-for-4, 1 triple, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Andrew Velazquez: 1-for-5, 1 home run (3), 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Velazquez homered for the second straight night
Brody Koerner: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 33 pitches (18 strikes)
Reggie McClain: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 20 pitches (18 strikes)
Greg Weissert: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K, 16 pitches (12 strikes)
Sal Romano: 2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 25 pitches (18 strikes)
Nick Goody: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 21 pitches (13 strikes)
Luis García: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 1 K, 6 pitches (4 strikes). The RailRiders’ closer got Scott Kingery swinging, but then gave up the walk-off single
Somerset Patriots (28-15): Behind a shaky Luis Medina, Somerset dropped the first game of the doubleheader 5-3 before recovering to trounce Portland 11-3 in the nightcap.
Game 1
Star of the Game: Diego Castillo – 2-for-4, 2 doubles, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Castillo has cooled off a bit after a searing stretch last week when he went 9-for-13
Oswald Peraza: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 3 strikeouts
Michael Beltre: 1-for-3, 1 home run (7), 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Beltre’s solo shot in the fourth gave the Patriots a 4-1 lead
Isiah Gilliam: 2-for-2, 1 run scored, 1 walk
Luis Medina: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 6 BB, 5 K, 95 pitches (51 strikes). Medina has an unimpressive 7.20 ERA across two Double-A starts First start was much better, he's still struggling to control the baseball. His pitches move so much that he can be very difficult to catch. He's also said to be adjusting to the different ball moving from A+ to the AA ball. If he continues to struggle with his command for the next couple starts then it might be time to pay attention
Addison Russ: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 27 pitches (14 strikes)
Game 2
Star of the Game: Michael Beltre – 2-for-4, 1 triple, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored. There were many offensive contributors in this one, but Beltre led the team in total bases and drove in two big runs in the third, adding another RBI on his triple in the fifth
Pitching Star of the Game: Ken Waldichuk – 5.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 10 K, 95 pitches (56 strikes). Waldichuk’s second effort went much better than his first as he cruised through the Sea Dogs lineup, allowing his only two hits in his last inning of work
Diego Castillo: 2-for-5, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored
Oswald Peraza: 0-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk
Thomas Milone: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
Max Burt: 2-for-4, 1 double, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
Zach Greene: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 37 pitches (24 strikes)
Hudson Valley Renegades (27-16): The Dutchess Stadium fans who stuck this one out until the end got their money’s worth and a whole lot more. After falling behind 8-3 in the top of the 11th inning, the Renegades pushed across six in the bottom and won the game 9-8 on a clutch two-run double from Anthony Seigler.
Star of the Game: Anthony Seigler – 2-for-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Seigler, the Yankees’ first-round draft pick in 2018, hadn’t received the Star of the Game award all year long during a very slow start. On Wednesday night, he delivered a signature performance. With the bases loaded, one out, and the Renegades down by one in the 11th, Seigler roped an RBI double to left to score the tying and winning runs
Ezequiel Duran: 1-for-5, 1 home run (7), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Before the chaos broke out, Duran’s sixth-inning homer gave HV a 3-1 lead
James Nelson: 2-for-5, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
Chad Bell: 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts. Bell was a key part of the 11th-inning rally. His single scored Nelson for the inning’s first run
Shawn Semple: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 73 pitches (47 strikes). Semple has delivered two strong outings since being sent down to High-A
Nick Ernst: 2 IP, 1 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 0 K, 30 pitches (18 strikes)
Jefry Valdez: 2.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R (4 ER), 1 BB, 2 K, 47 pitches (34 strikes). Valdez was, unfortunately, the chief architect of the madness in the top of the 11th. But his teammates got him off the hook
Charlie Ruegger: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K, 11 pitches (5 strikes). Ruegger was called upon for mop-up duty in what looked like garbage time, but ended up getting a win after the comeback
Tampa Tarpons (29-14): The Tarpons were able to finish their suspended game from Tuesday, winning it 4-3. They were scheduled for an encore against Lakeland, but the second game was postponed due to rain and the two teams will try another doubleheader tomorrow.
Star of the Game: Michael Giacone – 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 6 K, 54 pitches (35 strikes). Giacone, a 28th-round pick two years ago, has quietly racked up five wins on the season, all in relief
Anthony Volpe: 0-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Austin Wells: 0-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Trevor Hauver: 3-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk. The struggling Hauver is batting .268
Andres Chaparro: 2-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
Eric Wagaman: 2-for-4, 1 triple, 1 double, 1 run scored
Yoendrys Gómez: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 16 pitches (12 strikes)
Anderson Munoz: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 35 pitches (17 strikes)
Trevor Holloway: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 40 pitches (26 strikes). Holloway’s strong effort earned him his third save
