jays did well over the weekend, to bounce back as they did shows character
All that work for nothin...y'all win today but the Nationals couldn't do y'all a solid. Sucks that y'alls season has to end this way but the Nationals gagged this game.
So much pain.
91 wins and +183 run differential and not even making the 2nd wildcard.
From a ratings standpoint only.
A wire to wire chase with 4 teams to the bitter end with the playoffs being decided by the 9th inning and now you have the Yankees vs the Red Sox in a death match Wild Card game.
You really can't script it better.
91 wins and to get eliminated like that from the post season I mean I can't help but feel bad for y'all man real talk
Damn what a great season. I think they beat all expectations. What coulda been if we were home all year or had a bullpen for the first 3 months.
Tip your hat to the Jays. If you had told me we were going to win 91 games at the beginning of the season, I would have thought for sure we'd have either won the division or locked up the first wildcard spot.
AL East was just too good this year.
Disappointing we dodnt make it but definitely a fun end to the season. If you told me we were going to go 15-2 to start Sept I woulda told you that you were crazy considering we looked out of it by the end of August.
It's tough because this was a team that could have done some real damage in the playoffs. Other than the Rays I didn't fear any other team in the AL. Tough to see a historic offense and really, a pretty damn good 1-5 in the rotation and not see even a wildcard game. Going to take a few days to get over this one.
The Jays had a good offense, not a historic one overall.
To get to historic levels your offense needs to be able to knock in close to or over 1000 runs in the year.
did anybody see the play former Jay Gio Urshela made today? it was reminiscent of Derek Jeter's flying into the stands, Urshela went flying headlong into into the Devil Rays dugout and the Rays righfully just stood there, but even the Jays were saying how incredible it was after the game.
he ran across the field at full speed and tumbled into the rays dugout. in a 0-0 game it was critical
once again going into the final 13 games they led the wild card. and and were playing 10 against 2 last place teams. they held the hammer, unfortunately they just werent up to the challenge. is it disappointing of course it is but its not like they deserved better. They just didnt earn better than where they ended up
I think the law of averages kicked in the last month.
We played well for 3 weeks to go 15 and 2. Then cooled for 2 weeks and lost the series against Yankees/Rays along with a split with Twins.
It's going to be a long off-season
MLB really needs to expand the playoffs to 8 teams or even 6. No reason for the Jays or Mariners to be out of it, and the Dodgers should not be playing in a 1 game playoff with 104 wins.
This playoff format is definitely weird.
Having a 1 game do or die WC series as a playoff doesnt make sense IMO. Feels a lot like the nba play in.
i disagree that just make winning meaningless, ive lost all interest in the nba because of that, 2 wild cards is fair
the AL east is the reason the jays missed out.
no other division has 4 90 win teams if the jays played any where else they have had 100 wins, Boston NY and Tampa too
Great season of entertainment. Sad to see it over. This off-season is very important... I can't wait to see what they decide to do.
Marty York is such a turd. He is saying that Jays fans were mislead by management and the homer media and even said the team is not fun. Yeah, the homer media brought them to within 1 game of the playoffs, lol. Somebody is butt hurt.
I don't really pay much attention to what place they finished in. They were a top 4 AL team. A ****** bullpen in the first half, some questionable managerial decisions and having three home parks contributed to this team not making the playoffs. They have an excellent, young controllable core that they should be a le to build on.
These guys have proven they can locate professional talent whether it be in the minor or major league. I'm fully confident -- as I have been for some time-- that they'll keep this ship heading in the right direction

Yea wonder how well we coulda done playing at Rogers Centre tbe whole time.
We definitely had more things go right than wrong but not being able to play inToronto couldve tipped the balance.
I really want to believe, but it will be tough to roll out a better team than this one next year. And even harder the following year and so on. Atkins was able to spend his way close to the playoffs (Riccardi?), he has a nice young core so he will have a couple more attempts at it, but he will need to repeat finding an MVP positional player and Cy young winner at a major discount to keep the momentum going through the expensive core years.
A way out of this is promoting another manoah or having groshans or Moreno hit like MVP’s… but I’m not betting on that.
Sure, that's one way to look at it. Another way is to see that Atkins has been able to get great production out of guys who didn't cost that much. He signed both Ray and Semien for a combined 24M and they produced closed to 14 WAR. He also got players like Hernandez and Espinal for pennies on the dollar. I trust these guys to be able to acquire talent to fill the holes.
As for the young players getting expensive, that's what you want, that means you are drafting good players and if some become to expensive then you trade them. It's not a static situation

Yeah I literally acknowledged every point in your post in the one you quoted.
My question is “is it repeatable”? Because it has to be if we are going to roll out another team as strong as this years.
It might be. I don’t know but I look forward to finding out. I’m just stating what needs to happen in order for us to roll out a better team than last seasons, without paying Ray and semien.
You’re probably right but as a fan of the “other team’’ in NY it’s to be expected. And I do give them credit. I just look at the Jays being in the drivers seat with 13 games to go and playing 2 last place teams for 10 of those 13, as being particularly telling. The Yankees going 6-3 against the teams they had to beat was impressive, no doubt but going 7-6 to finish the season when you’re playing the last place Orioles and Twins for 10 of them just doesn’t cut it. To me, that makes it look like the Jays handed it to them
