Which specs to referring to? Not sure how that could be considered botched.

We should win tomorrow but sucks we can go 2-4 at best against the division this week.
I'm not entirely following your line of thinking. Are you suggesting we should have traded players like SRF and Mayza when they had "value"? I mean, they would have been a decent secondary piece but to think they would have landed an impact player is quite a stretch.
I don't think Atkins has much to worry about in his drafting. All teams and GMs have drafts that they could have done better on. This FO seems to be very adept at finding amateur talent, wether it be through the draft or IFA

Yes I’m suggesting he should have used SRF, Alford, Greene maybe even tellez etc (not Mayza, he didn’t have much value at that time) to bolster the ML club for the runs. Not sure what the controversy is with that idea. In hindsight, it would have been the smart move. I was certainly calling for an Alford trade at the time.
If you say your going for it, then go for it. I really didn’t like the lying. It obviously REALLY rubbed me the wrong way.
As optimistic as we all are about Atkins drafting, we still have to see. The only proven top end talent he has drafted so far is Bo. Biggio is having a tough year. And again - both of those players were drafted based on the previous GM’s staff and scouting. Flopping in your first draft (ever) with your own staff is a red flag. They seem to have improved since then, but we just don’t know until some of these specs make it to the show and establish themselves.
There was a time when we all agreed AA was a great drafter too. Look how everyone has turned on him.
I’m not counting my eggs before the hatch, and I would prefer he uses some of those bullets to bolster the ML club when we are ready to make a run. Groshans and Pearson come to mind when I think about prospects I would be open to dealing for pitching this year or next.
The time has come to use prospects to get major league talent, for sure. I'm not sure I see what you see with some of the players you mention, though. Tellez has never had any trade value. He is the type of player you hold on to because he's got no trade value but could potentially be a complexion changing bat.
It's too bad at this point he probably is who he is. I was really pulling for him. I don't know why, but the guys I pull for never come through (Tellez, Rasmus, Pillar, etc.).
I don't think guys like SRF and Greene actually had much value. All Greene netted us (along with Leone) was Grichuk. Alford was 42 on MLB pipeline and probably could have netted us something. There's no real controversy, I just don't think a guy who was still 22 and in high A could be used as a headliner for an impact SP. Our farm wasn't very good at the time and I understand you disagree with that point and that's fine but the future has bore it out and, yes, understand we had a phenom who was in no way shape or form being traded but after that there's isn't much else. A AAAA defensive infielder in Urena and Tellez. I wasn't in favour of trading Alford and SRF for a marginal upgrade for the a team that was fair at best.
I'm fine with the lying, if that's what you want to call it. What did you want them to say, "we are going to have one more kick at the can with a old, overpaid team with no bullets to trade except for a teenage phenom. Oh and the majority of our core is getting very old and up for contract renewal but ownership wants dollar bills in the back pocket so we will keep this charade up." The best route for this team would have been a complete upheaval after the 2015 season but that was unfathomable so a mediocre push it was.
I'm ok with trading specs and fully agree about trading Groshans for as the headliner for a MLB frontline starter. They can sign Semien to a multi year deal or keep Martin in the IF. There's tons of options and flexibility.
I'm fine with AAs drafting. It was actually me who totaled up the WAR for players drafted during his tenure here and he was the tops through the AL, NL Central and East and never checked the West. He proved to be a great drafter but his problem was that he traded a lot of them away. It kind of comes full circle with the whole draft/develop vs draft/trade route. Just imagine if we had Thor and deSclafini on rookie deals in the rotation over Buehrle and Dickey

He doesn’t have much value now, but it’s been confirmed that zobrist was offered 1 for 1 for tellez and AA turned it down. Zobrist was expiring, but acquiring a similar caliber player for a similar caliber prospect 8 months later was not out of question. Would have made an impact on our run whether it was a pitcher or position player added in 2016. And all I’m saying is that in hindsight it would have been best.
I’m a big tellez fan too and I think he will have a long career still. I’ve always felt like he will take a long time to adjust to the ML, and its most likely he ultimately does that on another team.
Well at least I know you read and comprehended my post so I respect and appreciate that.
Greene was moved after he started to show his limitations. It’s like trading tellez now vs 6 years ago.
The 2012 trades were flops for sure. Don’t think anyone could defend them in hindsight, only the mentality/reasons behind them.
Anyway I’m not even trying to complain about this. Would I have preferred if the tear down was done in the opposite way? Absolutely. Am I complaining about where we are now like Spider-Dan? Not really.
I’m trying to look forward instead of backwards. There’s a lot to feel optimistic about, just hope Atkins makes the right moves. We need him to.
I know your not complaining, I just don;t think there was to trade at the time. I understand your replied to me awhile back and this may seem like I'm rehashing an old topic, I've been quite busy lately and wanted to at least reply. One more note on Greene, he had walked 4 per 9 in 2015 while striking out 6. He wasn't going to get you much anyway. I never realized how much of a beast Tellez was in 16. He probably could have gotten us a very good player if he was paird with Alford.
Tough loss. 1-5 against the division.
Didn’t like Montoya yanking Chatwood there. He’s a better chance of getting that last out over Bergen despite the 2 walks and 2 hits.
