So that Manoah kid eh.
Manoah : "This **** is easy" LOL
I'd have let Manoah come out for the 7th.
What a start by Manoah. Absolute stud. Mixing four pitches all game. Looked legit.
Couldnt watch but nice win. Was expecting he wpuld. Ave the element of surprise so want to see how he does the next few starts but hopefully he does well. Normally Id still want him in AAA but our pitching staff is pretty bad at the moment.
Neither do I. The rotation has 2 open spots so even if my preference is to have him play in AAA, they'll keep him up.
I want to see him under the lights. Day game in Yankee stadium with the bright sun and then the shadows made it tough to just pick up the baseball for either side. Then on top of that of no real video yet made it extra tough for the Yankees.
What I loved about this start though:
1)He threw a tonne of strikes
2)He showed confidence in all 4 pitches
3)He can go deep into games as he was still getting stronger in the 6th (imo)
4)He showed the ability to throw 4 above average MLB pitches. The 4 seamer is explosive with some cutting action when he throws it in to lefties/away to righties. The 2 seamer has a lot of movement in on RHB's hands and the hard change up reminded me of King Felix in his prime at 90/91 falling off the table. His slider was off today, but that can sometimes be his best pitch. It seemed to be mostly in the low 80's though, so that is his big change of pace pitch. Judge tried to sit on it in the first inning and we saw how bad he looked when he guessed wrong...lmao (man that AB was awesome!!!)
I am still very excited. Just pumping the breaks a little after this 1 start on a silver platter for Manoah. On top of all the reasons above, the yankees are beat up and half their active line up is still hitting under the Mendoza line. Sanchez, Ford, Gardner, Odor, Frazier, Higashioka (....and Hicks although he's on the 10 day IL) are all really, really struggling.
and the guys hitting above .200 aren't much better.....:
Andujar: .472 OPS
Torres: .691 OPS
LeMahieu: .700 OPS
Urshela: .751 OPS
Judge: .983 OPS
They literally have 1 "dangerous" hitter right now. They have been totally relying on their pitching so far this season. If you think about it, with no crowd to intimidate him, this might actually have been the perfect spot for a rookie to make his debut right now.
If he can solidify that spot in the rotation, their top 4 starts to look, really, really good :dance:
If he takes his turn in the rotation he'll likely face the Marlins and then the White Sox - missing the series vs the Astros
One thing I hated was the entire team on the radio constantly bringing up his lack of minor league innings. Literally nobody got minor league innings last year. He threw 87 innings in NCAA in 2018, and 125 in NCAA/Low A in 2019. It seems like they want to paint him as a 19 year old high schooler with no innings.
This is a major league trial for Manoah. He passed the first test, teams will adjust, he will need to readjust; let's see how he does in his next 2 starts. One thing is for sure though, the kid shows good composure and is confident in his abilities
Let's face it. The Jays are not making the playoffs this year. They are too streaky. Semien is here to build his value for the off season. Unless they pretty much already have his signature on a long term deal, he must be dealt at the TDL. He could fetch good long term pieces moving forward to stabilize the future. If he's not staying, he must be dealt.
