I agree with all of this, but I will need to see how martins defence stacks up to springer in CF.

So all this shuffling sends Rowdy to the bench . SMH
I'm not going to lose much sleep over Rowdy and his 39 wRC+ and his .500 OPS riding the pine for a game or two

Lol at Buck.
"If you're an elite pitcher, you're a baseball player."
oh oh. Ryu hurt
Hopefully not a serious one. But one of those players you always worry about when they get hurt.
Too many holes in this line-up at the moment.
At least it wasn't a groin injury. He had one a few years ago and he missed some time.
Would have been nice to get an indurance run there. Jansen has to pick up the hitting. Im fine if he hits .200 but not .050.
If there are too many guys hitting well that they can keep Rowdy on the bench, them so be it. Right now that is hard to fathom though. Like half the lineup isn't hitting their bodyweight ffs. Thank god they can pitch.
The story of the Jays continues. Seems like every year the side of the ball ( hitting/pitching) you think is going to br good always seems to struggle, and vice versa. Every time you think the rotation or bullpen is going to struggle, they do great.
If this team ever starts to hit, they are going to be scary. Just to get to their career norms, most of these guys are due some serious hot streaks. If Springer and Teo don't turn this offense around, instead of trading for pitching they may need to trade for some bats that can create runs. If your name isn't Vladdy, Bo or Grichuk you have sucked so far. Semien is starting to come around, but he still has an OPS under .700 and an OBP under .300 on the year.
Seriously the only time if seen the jays perform great on both sides of the ball at the same time was 2015 after the tdl. And that took adding 4? Pitchers who had already proven they were performing that season.
At least none of the specs we sent out turned into anything. ‘Twas a great year to be a jays fan.
Just realized this year's playoffs is back to the regular 2 WC teams plus division winners.
Oof
Still a long season but not as easy as last year to make it.

Anyone know the sauce of this? Few guys on here would love to see this daily me thinks.
With Boston starting strong, competition will be tough in the division. I think the Jays can make it. They need to play well enough into June/July to justify a big trade for a front of the rotation starter. I think that would make everyone more confident (even though the pitching has been really good so far). They also need to get and stay healthier...
Yeah I’m really keyed into what the bats and defence are doing, and it’s been rough. I personally need the bats to be live if I’m adding pitching for specs. Otherwise we are just assessing our needs for the offseason again imo (which is fine. This team was never ready to be a contender this season).
Semien was someone I was excited about but he has been a huge flop so far. Hoping he lights on fire, but it’s hard to build those stats up after a tough start. He won’t hit 300 this season. He won’t hit 40 bombs. He couldn’t lead off, and I doubt he provides protection for Vlad. Aka - he won’t be worth 19mil.
I didn't expect him to meet any of the milestones you listed (he's never hit .300 in a season or 40 bombs, but has finished Top 3 in MVP voting), but I'm happy with the contract. Springer got paid 150 million to be an elite player. Semien just needs to be an everyday MI with an average bat.
I expect the bats will come around. We are still dealing with a small sample size that hasn't taken into account the ebbs and flows that all players experience throughout the season. The defense is what concerns me most though.
Re: Semien -- there's no such thing as a bad one year deal. We all should have had moderate expectations given that he's only really been a good player in one season so far in his career.
It's tough seeing the offense play this badly at the beginning of the year, but things can swing so easily. Remember 2009(?) when we started off like 32-8 with everyone blowing the cover off the ball and Travis Snider looking like he was the future of the outfield? We ended up missing the playoffs by a big margin.
I'm hoping they can turn it around and heat up in May/June to set us up for a playoff run.
Yeah I just really wanted him to be MVSemien. If he was hitting like he did that one season this team would look a lot different. It’s not doom and gloom, but I had high hopes and so far have been disappointed with his production.
Definitely not saying it was a bad deal. I would have signed him to it. I’m sure Atkins was dreaming on the kid just as much as I was. It’s my biggest disappointment so far this season.
The thing that makes me the happiest and is way more important - Vlad.
Yea dont really have a problem with Simien. He wasnt my first choice (wanted Wong and Happ for the same money) but it was a 1 year deal on a roster that was probably 3rd in the division for most predictions.
Yea April and May stats always a writeoff for me.
I usually just use it to see if performance YTD is consistent with expectations I have (ie I expected Vlad to do well but thought Matz would be a 4.00 ERA type guy). Anyone that is opposite of my predictions (ie Matz), I tend to zero in more in June/July.
If some of our hitters are hitting this poorly at the end of May, then I'll start to worry.
Someone said above, but I'm disappointed in Biggio as well. He was one of the guys I wasn't concerned about.
