Here is an interesting stat...
Neither Miggy (Cabrera) or (Manny Ramirez) were able to post an OPS north of 1.000 until they turned 27. They came close, but both did it for the first time in their age 27 seasons. ...and then did it on a regular basis.
Vlad has a chance to do it in his age 23 season (while playing a relatively new position), and his age 22 season was only 50 games...
The strides he has taken on both sides of the ball in one committed off season is just remarkable.
Vlad's DOB is March 16, 1999 > he is 22 for the entire 2021 baseball season
Robbie Ray struck out 11 rays all on 94-96 mph fastballs!

Can they afford Ray in the offseason? I'd be hesitant to give him a long-term deal at the money he's sure to command.

My personal opinion is that they should slowly boost the payroll from 140 million closer to 200 million for a contention window. Now, they need to be smart in how they spend. Ryu and Grichuk will come off payroll in a couple years.
I don’t think they should let Ray or Semien walk if they are building towards contention.
