Where did I say nobody armed themselves? I specifically said, more than once, that the way these two handled it was the problem.

Yes they did. There is video of some walking through an open gate AND there is also video and photos of the destroyed gate.

The gate is only a small portion of the story anyway. The fact that BLM rioters where showing a strong propensity towards vandalism and violence is more than enough to cause fear of bodily harm in the minds of innocent bystanders. It was literally happening all over the country.

What we do know is that it was fine before Captain Stand Your Ground was out there with his gun yelling at people.

Riots were going on in many cities in California and people were alarmed that the illegal protests would carry over to their residences and were preparing what they were prepared to do. I had my machete and ninja staff ready, the car pointed out. My Korean neighbor next door locked and loaded and my two Hispanic neighbors were ready also.
When those riots extend into the neighborhood streets there will be a war between rioters and armed home owners. Cops are handcuffed by personnel losses and lack of support from the government who don't have their back. Then BLM and Antifa will go for the low hanging fruit they think the neighborhoods provide and will meet their demise lethally.
