How it started versus how it’s going:

I'll take your defensiveness as a firm "yes" to the question I posed. It certainly isn't like it was any sort of leap.

As more than a dozen states consider passing anti-transgender legislation this year, North Dakota lawmakers are diving into a bill that would make people pay $1,500 each time they refer to themselves or others with gender pronouns different from the ones they were assigned at birth.
The Senate bill would apply to people in public schools, state agencies and any other places that receive state funding.
Looks like the cult really keeps working on that "meaningful" legislation to improve the daily lives of citizens.
The GQP is a toxic waste of life.
They desperately need to cater to the racist/homophobic/transphobic base. That keeps the votes coming in. It also allows them to distract from all the crap they do to cater to the rich.
The internet has been a double edged sword in this whole thing. On the one hand, it allows people to easily discover the truth. On the other hand, it allows those criminals a chance to "flood the zone" with ****, lies, misinformation, and hate speech.
The distraction to cater to the rich and corporate needs is obviously the larger play. But did they learn nothing from the Roe vs Wade overturn? Voters literally killed the red wave over it. They can push social issues, but if they go too far, moderates will kick their ***** right out of office.
Has there been a time in modern era, where such an extreme right minority seized so much control? I can't imagine there aren't a bunch of GOP reps/senators who just hate what is going on now, because they know soon enough, their party is going to get pushed out and they will need to re-invent themselves to a degree.
They are clearly just flooding the zone and hoping it causes a mass distraction of pointless arguments, while they clear up the tax agenda pushed by Biden, and peal it back to the rich and large companies growing by the second while 99% of us suffer.

Iowa House Republicans introduced a bill that would place restrictions on the state's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, limiting who qualifies for food assistance and what foods they can buy.
The new bill, House File 3, dictates what the more than 250,000 Iowans who rely on SNAP can or cannot buy at grocery stores, Luke Elzinga, spokesperson for local food nonprofit DMARC told Axios Des Moines.
HF3 also targets several other public assistance programs, such as Medicaid, and reduces the income level Iowans need to qualify for the program
Nearly 40 House Republicans have co-sponsored the bill led by House Speaker Pat Grassley — one that would limit SNAP food purchases (formerly known as food stamps) to only what is on the state's approved WIC list, a supplemental nutritional aid for women, infants, and children.
Some of the proposed restrictions mean that low-income, older, and disabled Iowans who rely on SNAP benefits would not be able to purchase items like fresh meat, white bread, or sliced cheese.
Socialism for corporations and the rich. Rugged capitalism for everyone else.
How can anyone actually support the GQP?
Why on earth would you limit it to the WIC list when they serve completely different purposes?
I mean, I know that the cruelty is the point and all of that, but it's such a bizarre, arbitrary thing to pick.
Looks like the article has been updated and they rejected it.
Which, sure, is something... but they still considered it.
I’m noticing a second generation of government leaches. Pat Grassley wouldn’t be any relation to the first generation government leach Chuck Grassley. Would he?
