I find it hilarious when conservatives talk about liberals being brainwashed by media then go on and on about how violent all the BLM protests were. I don't know. I walked past a BLM protest almost every day in the spring and summer of 2020 and 2021. Seemed like a lot of peaceful protesting to me. Obviously I didn't stay for the duration but I wasn't coming home to news of violent BLM protests in NYC every night. Can't imagine NYC was the only city that happened in either. Sure there were enough that had violence but its not like the media reported on every BLM protest that happened in every city they happened in.
You know because Fox News would have been banging that drum every night if they did.
And I'm not saying BLM is squeaky clean. There have been some chapter members accused of serious financial improprieties. When you start gaining that much momentum and funding, that's going to bring along some bad apples.
But the idea that every protest was even a small fraction of the violence and destruction that happened in Minneapolis after George Floyd was killed is ridiculous. There's been an estimated 26 million people who have protested in the US since 2020 for BLM. If they all were, 1/11th of the American population could do some serious damage.
He says to the camera as buildings are burning in the background.
No one said that all of the BLM protests were violent. A **** ton of them were. We all know that.
A lot of liberals put their hands over their eyes and said BLM protests weren't violent (even in this forum). The truth is somewhere in the middle.
Did I say there were places where it didn't end up violent?
Could have fooled me. Conservative media has spent a ton of time comparing BLM protests since Minneapolis to Minneapolis the days after George Floyd was murdered.
I don't know how 26 million Americans protesting for a cause (in the last 2 years) ends up somewhere in the middle. If a lot of them ended in violence and destruction, I'd bet even 10% of those people could do far more damage than what we've seen.
AKA "somewhere in the middle."Quote:
Here is what we have found based on the 7,305 events we’ve collected. The overall levels of violence and property destruction were low, and most of the violence that did take place was, in fact, directed against the BLM protesters.
First, police made arrests in 5% of the protest events, with over 8,500 reported arrests (or possibly more). Police used tear gas or related chemical substances in 2.5% of these events.
Protesters or bystanders were reported injured in 1.6 percent of the protests. In total, at least three Black Lives Matter protesters and one other person were killed while protesting in Omaha, Austin and Kenosha, Wis. One anti-fascist protester killed a far-right group member during a confrontation in Portland, Ore.; law enforcement killed the alleged assailant several days later.
Police were reported injured in 1% of the protests. A law enforcement officer killed in California was allegedly shot by supporters of the far-right “boogaloo” movement, not anti-racism protesters.
The killings in the line of duty of other law enforcement officers during this period were not related to the protests.
Only 3.7% of the protests involved property damage or vandalism. Some portion of these involved neither police nor protesters, but people engaging in vandalism or looting alongside the protests.
In short, our data suggest that 96.3% of events involved no property damage or police injuries, and in 97.7% of events, no injuries were reported among participants, bystanders or police.
Except that accounts for rioting not long after George Floyd was murdered. What kind of damage have they done since? This is like saying hundreds of millions of dollars in damage claims were filed immediately after the LA Riots. Yeah, duh. Not saying its right but that still doesn't prove your point about a **** ton of them being violent and destructive.
All the same to you is it not? Jokes are funny but the link he posted is a Harvard study.
