i think he just lost motivation cause he put so much sweat equity into the whole Bargs thing and some other theories he had and none of it came remotely close to being true.
I mean I really could go off on y'all for losin to my Celtics last night but I'm not goin to do it because I'm actually feelin generous certainly a lot more generous than usual because of the fact that it is NBA All Star weekend, my favorite time of the whole NBA calendar year. But I mean Powell he's essentially proving to be a star or at least an emerging star on y'alls team. Why? Man is puttin up 20 plus points in like how many straight games?
Powell is more or less proving his worth or at least proving why he should be a permanent starter in the starting 5. Hell, at this point he's better certainly than OG and that's sayin a lot. Rather have Powell at the 3 spot (SF) than OG.
Then you have Lowry at the 1 (PG) and FVV as your combo guard playing the 2 (SG) because he could play either or.
Lowry puttin up 19 assists...could have had 20 assists when is the last time a Raptors player has done that in a game? It has never happened until last night
Boucher puts up a career high 30 points last night all be it in a loss but I mean Boucher to me he should be a starter but for some reason Baynes always starts. Y'all have to make that make sense to me because I sure as hell don't get that. Baynes should be comin off the bench if anythin and Boucher should be your starting center period.
As far as OG, he should be comin off the bench as well. Let Powell start. Powell is more of a scoring threat than OG is if you want to be brutally honest.
I died a bit on that hill too. I just so badly wanted him to pan out because of my Italian heritage.
I still think colangelo screwed up his development. They tried to turn him into a C and banned him from shooting 3’s for a season. Fast forward 10 years and C’s don’t even exist anymore and it’s all about shooting the 3.
But with the 2nd half, after this break y'all are going to have to come back hot especially if y'all want to maintain that yearly playoff streak of 8 straight years in the playoffs. But the 2nd half schedule is not easy especially when you have to see teams like the Utah Jazz, LeBron's Lakers twice, Kawhi & Serge's Clippers among other teams.
I wonder how much of a look Ellenson is going to get after leading the 905 in scoring with 21 ppg ( in 30 mpg) and coming less than 2% away from being a member of the 40/50/90 club. Dude is a 3pt shooting machine, and at 6'10 with the ability to step back and still knock em down ....he could be a great floor spacer. I know he isn't a rim protector, but a pairing of him and Boucher could work in the second unit instead of Baynes and Boucher. At least people would have to guard Ellenson tight on the perimeter....and his pick n pop game is outstanding.
Just look what these 2 guys outside of our big 4 did last night:
Powell: 33 pts and 4 dimes. (....on 11 of 20 shooting and 6 for 10 from deep.)
Boucher: 29 pts, 9 boards and 2 blks....OFF THE BENCH! (....on 10 of 15 shooting and 2 for 4 from deep.)
Could Boucher catch Jordan Clarkson for 6th man if the Raptors go on a run and finish near the top of the East before the year is over? Man he is playing great this year.
ecart, I have no idea why you don't want to invest in the Norman Powell we have seen for the past 2 years. He is just entering his prime and been a big part of this team since Kawhi left. I don't know if you can find a better starting SG for this team this off season. I'll take the guy flirting with the 50/40/90 club while scoring 20+ ppg over Oladipo or Derozan....who are the only 2 other SG's looking to hit open market. (NOTE: I don't count Jrue Holiday, he's a PG playing with another PG just like FVV with K-Lo. ) The way the game has moved to a 3pt contest every night, I think there will be a lot of teams lining up to pay Powell before they pay Derozan or Oladipo. I predict they let him test the market like Fred, and then they pay him.
I know it sounds crazy, but if Lowry is willing not to be the highest paid player on this team anymore, than I would see if he would do this franchise one last solid and take a 4yr/60M contract that would likely allow him to become the franchise leader in points (on top of all his other team records). ...with the 3rd and 4th seasons as player options. Basically just tell the heart of this franchise he can play as long as he wants to for 15M/yr....and just leave Flynn playing with the 905 until he is needed as their 3rd string PG.
They way they play as a unit on both sides of the ball...I think a starting 5 of Lowry, FVV, Siakam, Powell and OG with Boucher as their 6th man could be the beginning of something really special if they can keep it together.
Cause players have hot streaks all the time. Jerryd Bayless had great starter sample sizes as well. I'm not as high on him as you are. Fundamentally his game hasn't changed. He still makes a ton of mistakes and he's a braindead player with extreme tunnel vision. His offense is very scheme dependent, can't break down a defense to save his life, that's why he's trash off the bench. He can prove me wrong idgaf but still a skeptic.
Exactly. I know there are all these Raptors fans that are so happy that Lowry is staying, but I'm not one of them. For the good of the franchise, (which is what I care about), we can't keep losing guys for nothing. Its getting ridiculous in the worst way. Imagine opening day next year with Lowry and Norm moved on and us with absolutely nothing to show for it but a 7th seed in 2021 and a first round exit.
I agree with this assessment. Powell is streaky and still needs to see how he would perform in a playoff setting. The core of Siakam-Fred-OG-Powell is underwhelming. I don't think raptors would be a contender with that core and there would be quite a bit of money tied to that core.
I have come to the realization that most likely Lowry won't be traded and it sucks. We lost Gasol and Ibaka for nothing. Now most likely we are going to lose Lowry and Powell for nothing as well. At least last year raptors played some great basketball in the regular season and looked like they would make some noise in the playoffs. This year their play hasn't been as impressive and I really hope they turn it around. Even if we don't trade lowry and powell, I really hope we make some moves to improve the team so that at least we can look forward to some decent basketball in the playoffs.
In a strange way, they'd all be getting paid what they are actually worth, and that's not a way to win a championship. The reason superstars are so valuable in the NBA as opposed to other sports is because there's a cap on what you can pay a player, and they never get paid what they're actually worth. Lebron has never had a contract that's fair to his value. I think Siakam is worth his contract, and Freddy is a $20 million player, and so on and so forth. But then, aside from Boucher, your team is committed solely to those guys and without massive improvement, your ceiling is established.
