Okay so are you saying he’s on the same level as AA? Despite the amazing trades and endless supply of prospects?
Based on how he has the team set up for the present and future. If we’re being honest with ourselves, 2021 was the first season the Atkins built Blue Jays really were vying for a post season spot. 2020 was cool but a rotation of Ryu, Roark, Anderson, Shoemaker and Walker was meh.
Atkins has given us the best farm system in Blue Jays history. The focus on player development has really attracted prospects to the organization. Bo Bichette is a perfect example.
He’s pulled off trades that helped the team win in 2016 and has also pulled off trades to set the team up for present day. He’s made big name signings when it counts (Ryu, Springer, Gausman) while also avoiding potential franchise crippling signings (Price, Bautista, Donaldson)
I don’t know about you but I’ve never felt more confident about the team moving forward. This squad is a World Series contender for the next 2 years as assembled. On top of that, they have a top 10 farm and plenty of salary to go out and sign/re-sign more guys. AA have us nothing for 5 years then went all in for half a season of magic. Atkins has a potential dynasty all things considered.
Are you referring to me? At the end of the day its all obviously arbitrary.
Some of the key ones to look at are playoff results (1 ALCS in 6 years), trades (JD trade vs Berrios trade, etc), signings (Martin vs Ryu), farm,. (AA had 3 years with top 10 farm and I think Atkins had 4, etc), etc and they are all fairly equal as of now IMO.
Usually the problem is when we give guys credit for stuff that didnt happen yet. Like half the key signings and trades didnt even happen when this thread was made but praises were given for things that didnt happen. I mean hes so far away from Gillick yet its being discussed as someone hes getting there like its close.
When this thread was made, I didnt have AA above Atkins. 1 year after and they are fairly even IMO. And if Atkins makes the playoffs then I have no problem if people put him over AA.
Disappointed for sure, but in baseball (and only baseball) I view winning the division as a huge achievment. I put it on a similar level to making the World Series finals and losing.
That’s why I have my bar set where it is. Winning the division OR making the finals would put him on par with AA’s achievements imo. Doing both of those things would have Atkins a notch above AA. Winning a championship has him a notch below gillick.
28 pages of this?
honestly...just use war and be done with it, someone will have to do the work
It’s still to early. This is the season that has the potential to change things. But also in year 7 which AA did not see here, and AA started with a far worse situation than atkins.
Regardless it all has the potential to work out perfectly for us fans. After 8 years of Ricardi this team needed a bold gunslinger to come in, tear it all apart, and build the franchise’s back end up again. If this all works out with Atkins (looks like it just might!), then it could have been perfect timing for a less emotional, more steady hand to come in and lead the freshly modernized blue Jays.
Should be an exciting season. Think I’ll try to make it out to a few games for the first time in a long time.
