I agree with the second statement, but I’m having trouble deciphering the top part. Could you elaborate?
I'm still comfortable saying 2021 to be legit contenders. That gives the 3 sons 3 years of exp. I didnt expect the surrounding cast to be what it is but and their projection hasnt followed what I expected but Im fine with 2021 for now.
I also see 2022 as the season to break out, because our pitching staff will have plenty of young guys and FA is loaded.
I’m optimistic we can get into the WC at least next season if the right moves are made. Just saying that we have 1 more season to try before my prediction that made some ppl go crazy becomes our best case scenario. The 2023 prediction was based on the youth carrying us, but obviously good FA signings can bump up the timeline.
Well I think we will have SWR and Manoah in there so that’s 3/5 with Ryu. If you look at the contenders they usually don’t rely on rookie pitchers to carry them to the WS, so if we can add an Ace and basically a whole new BP then I will warm up my popcorn.
Thats true. Though Im just factoring in my usual preference of 1 year worth of AAA for our prospects . Though we'll probably see a few young guys dstart the year in the MLB (could be Ryu, Manoah, SWR, Pearson, matz)
I just want to revisit this now that reality has set in for most of us.
If we miss the playoffs again next season, is atkins fired?
I personally think so. He cemented his own deadline with the Barrios trade.
Not saying if we miss the playoffs next season that we’re done and should rebuild, just saying that I think shapiro will replace Atkins if he cannot get the job done.
My personal preference would be to release both of them and hire Epstein, but I realize that is a dream.
If shapiro decides to hold onto Atkins following another missed postseason, there is no doubt in my mind that Atkins would be gone if me missed the playoffs 2 more times.
Nah if we miss this year then he'll be fine. He'll be given a chance to construct a team in 2022. This season is probably where most expected us to be anyway (upcoming team that was most likely 3rd in the division).
If we miss this year and next year I can see if he's on the hot seat.
Sorry I think you misread my question. I was talking about if we miss the playoffs again next season (2022). This season is pretty much wrapped up barring a miracle, but I agree atkins should have a chance to patch this thing up this offseason. Honestly I can see a scenario where he sticks around even if we miss the playoffs next year too, but I will start getting really frustrated at that point wasting the rookie deals or our core.
