I really like Voit's leadership. He is growing in that aspect. He's got that same blue collar quality Gardner has but he's more vocal. I give Cash credit for giving him a shot. I hope he continues to improve in all areas of the game.Quote:

The point is that the Yankees made a decision a year and a half ago to counsel him and rehabilitate him and keep him gainfully employed. Now that he lost a year plus in earnings and did everything they asked of him, should we now say that he's not worth a second chance. There are people guilty of sexual assault or accused of murder playing professional sports, who IMO are far worse than someone who spent a year and a half rehabilitating and paying his debt. Yes, he's on thin ice and unfortunately that's the case for anyone who commits a crime and serves time, etc.
Also, does the fact that he's a man who slapped a woman have anything to do with the lack of forgiveness. If Serena catches her husband flirting with another girl and slaps him, would she be immediately suspended from all tournaments for the rest of that season like German was suspended for post season play and would the Tennis Federation prevent her from any competition for the next year and when she was reinstated, would we prevent her from ever playing tennis again. Is it a different example because she slapped a man, especially given how strong a human she is. What if Megan Rapinoe slapped her girlfriend?
At some point people are given second chances.

Well I for one won’t be cheering for him this season . And no I am not rooting for him to fail either . They should have dumped him right after it happened . Because now unless he has a great season he will be a distraction all season . And the big question all season will be if German will succumb to the pressure he is under now . If the Yankees were smart they would keep him in the bullpen for atleast the first half of the season .

I think there are extreme cases when all bets are off but in now way did German's situation present that way. I also believe that action in the form of defense is fine, including defense of others.
I fully agree about second chances. I think part of being able to walk a way or break up with someone has to do with having the mental tools to understand a situation and see options. I don't think he had the tools to deal with it in an acceptable way. Hopefully he is truly dealing with the issue and hopefully if he does it again, someone in the clubhouse kicks the crap out of him
Personally, I thought his apology was rehearsed and somewhat insincere. Hopefully that was just a result of already dealing with this teammates and getting through the emotions that would certainly rise up from such an embarrassing conversation
I understand what you are saying about the bolded and slapping her, as I said, is still reprehensible. I'm just saying, there could be some unknown reason that he snapped, not just that she ordered him the fish when he wanted the chicken. There was some kind of dynamics in play that we are not privy to. I agree if she exhibited egregious behavior, he should just walk away, but I suppose that too is difficult with the mother of his child. I agree that he didn't have the mental tools to deal with it. I also think that all public apologies are probably cleared by the organization's ghost writers, if the organization is the one who wants the individual to apologize and I don't know if there is any kind of language barrier that prevents him from showing the same emotion that he would in his native tongue.Quote:
