Link has a recent video of Medina from winter ball. If he can keep the consistent release point and command we're going to be very happy we have this kid. The stuff is unreal and it comes out of his hand so easily. Everything since the start of the 2nd half of 19 has been going in the right direction for this kid. Its a real shame that he missed all of last yr, if he hadn't we might not be so desperate for pitching. Between Garcia, Schmidt, Gil and this kid we have some incredible starting pitching talent that should be ready sooner than later.

1. I agree. But, it doesn't look like that starting pitching is going to be available given the Yankees budget constraints for 2021. And, we all know they won't give the assets necessary to acquire Castillo. Also, looking forward the SP FA class for 2022 sucks outside of Thor (no way Cohen lets him walk). Lastly, there's a pretty high risk that there will be a work stoppage in 2022 when the collective bargaining agreement needs to be renegotiated.
2. In 2023, Cole will only be 32 and Sevy will only be 29. Not exactly ancient.
3. The team still would have a solid core of position players in their prime. Torres, Frazier, Lindor (2021 FA), Stanton at 33, Gio at 31, Andujar and perhaps Dominguez will be ready to patrol CF.
4. We will have some time to let our SP mature and perhaps be able to strike lightening in a bottle with Deivi, Schmidt, Gil, Medina, and Monty.
5. We will get a boat load of blue chip prospects which will pay dividends in 2023-2025, assuming a 2-4 year window to get to majors. Chapman, Britton, Judge, Voit and Hicks have to provide a solid return.
6. Back end bullpen guys can always be bought. We do have a solid good track record of being able to piece together solid middle inning relievers.
Seriously, what am I missing?
Also, by compete, I meant be competitive and watchable. 82-85 wins for the next 2 years.

So now people are hoping for a "reboot" of the team? Why? As things stand now, I would think we are the favorites in the American league. Sure, Toronto has gotten better, but they haven't added to their team yet this off season. Cleveland is going to trade Lindor, Houston is probably losing Springer and Brantely and they won't have Verlander for 2021, and the Rays are looking to trade Snell, and probably won't add this off season. We have always owned the Twins to the point that they should let us use the Home locker room when we play there. The White Sox are getting better and adding, but I don't think they will be good enough to beat us.
The question is what we are doing. If we don't sign DJ or trade for Lindor, that would make us weaker, but even then if we sign Didi, sign Tanaka, move Torres back to second, and grab at least one quality bull pen arm, we should be fine esp. if we get anything from Sevy and German and the kids take the next step.
Even at 210M, I think we are the team to beat. If we re-sign DJ, or trade for Lindor, or if Hal goes nuts and signs Bauer, then only disastrous injuries (God forbid) could stop us from getting to the WS.
I think we have an incredibly good team and even better, we have --esp. with the kids coming up -- an incredibly exciting team to root for. Sure, we have injury problems, and players like Judge, Stanton, Voit, and Sanchez strike out too much, but they also hit baseballs farther than just about anyone else in the league. Personally, I think home runs over 400ft should be worth two runs (like the basketball 3 pointer), but no one asked me.
We have gotten close and have been eliminated by the ultimate AL rep to the WS the last four years. In almost all of those years, a break here or a break there could have had us in the WS instead of the team that ousted us.
I just wished the MLB Network would show winter ball. It is fun to see how our guys are doing (good or bad), but it would be far more enjoyable to actually watch the games.
Yankees: While no official statement has been made, owner Hal Steinbrenner clearly stated after the season that manager Aaron Boone will be returning in 2021, so it’s safe to assume the Yankees have exercised their club option on Boone. There hasn’t been any buzz about an extension, and until then, there will be plenty of media focus on Boone’s lame-duck status. Boone has a 236-148 record and three postseason appearances in his three seasons as manager, but as always in the Bronx, the focus is on playoff success — the Yankees have only made it as far the ALCS once during Boone’s tenure. Anything short of a World Series appearance could spell the end of Boone’s stint as manager.

Pitching, I think those that expect a huge signing, i.e. Bauer, will be sadly disappointed. They may resign Tanaka and bank on a Sevy return with German at the back end. I fully expect Happ and Paxton to be playing elsewhere in 2021.
What I expect the rotation to look like:
Cole
Tanaka
Garcia
Monty
German/ Schmidt
Does it strike fear in the hearts of the opposition? Probably not. But, they are young, cost controlled (except for Cole and Tanaka) and have taken huge strides, they have instilled a certain level of confidence. Monty's gutsy performance in the ALDS and Garcia's performance (sans game 2) down the stretch has given the FO a sense of security (false?) that the young arms have taken the next step in their development.
Sevy's return, assuming health, bolsters the rotation. I have said before, imo we are underestimating the loss of Sevy. If Yanks had Sevy or German to go in game two rather than a green Garcia the seasons outcome MAY have been different.
Here's a wild thought. Could the Yankees ask Gio to play second and stick Andujar at third?
