The lefty will likely begin the 2021 campaign with the Padres' Double-A affiliate in San Antonio." IMO, the Yankees probably sold high on him since he has a 20-7 minor league record over multiple seasons, but for some reason couldn't advance.
Allen is a ML utility OF (plays a lot of LF) who is a switch hitter with a lifetime .239 average and is a stolen base threat. in 2018, he stole 21 bases and was caught stealing 4 times in less than 300 plate appearances. So, he can be a pinch runner and a utility OF that can handle the big LF in Yankee stadium.
So, the Padres get pitching depth at AA, having just traded away 2 pitchers to Tampa in the Blake Snell deal and the Yankees get OF depth.
As for prelude to a trade, he would fit in if the Yankees traded a package for Lindor that included Clint Frazier and Tyler Wade, since he gives OF depth and pinch running potential and his switch hitting's a plus.
