Lol pretty much my thoughts. Can u imagine bringing Gray back and paying a premium in specs to get him... talk about a gigantic risk. As good as Gray was in Oak and has been in Cincy there is nothing that has shown he magically has the ability to pitch well in YS. I really wish, especially for what we paid for him vs what we got in return, we would have kept him for 1 more yr to see if he couldn't have turned it around here. If he pitched here like he did everywhere else he would be a great #2 behind Cole but Zero chance i would bring him back, especially for what Cincy is asking
I'd take both Kluber and Paxton if we could get them at the right price, small base salary and incentivize the crap out of the deal. That said while both would offer huge upside, they both would come with gigantic amounts of risk involved. I'd probably lean towards Kluber though because on his elite command and his ability to use his deep arsenal he doesn't have to rely on velo like Paxton needs to. I think there is a higher probability Kluber performs closer to his peak levels than Paxton will. When Kluber has been healthy he has been an elite pitcher and could actually be that #2 were looking for until Sevy comes back. I wouldn't complain about a 1-2-3 Of Cole, Sevy and Kluber for the playoffs
One thing that makes me think that the Yanks might explore bringing Paxton back is he is LHed and it would be nice to have a power LHed pitcher in the rotation. Of course if he hasn't regained his velo and spin rates bringing him back would be a horrible idea.
Eagles, knowing that the Yanks aren't going to shell out for Bauer and they are limited financially what would you do and who would u target to fix the rotation and the BP?
I said I would take Paxton , kluber and gray OVER taillon . Simply because kluber and Paxton would only cost money so there is almost no risk there . And gray because he is atleast not a durability liability . You are making it sound like taillon is a bonified ace pitcher like cole who has guaranteed to give the yanks 200 innings .
I feel like with the lineup you guys have you probably should probably focus on pitching. There's a good to great bat at every position besides SS (especially if you re-sign LeMahieu). It doesn't make a ton of sense to trade for Lindor given the fact that him, Correa, Baez, Seager and Story are all FA next offseason. Unless the Indians get overwhelmed, I don't see them trading him right now either. More likely to get him at the deadline when teams want a rental for a playoff run.
The biggest thing that failed the Yankees last year in the playoffs was the lack of a quality SP after Cole. You could make a case that the Yankees are the most in need of a guy like Bauer. Liam Hendriks and Brad Hand would go a long way in the bullpen as well.
When you combine Taillons incredibly low salary of 2.5m and his likely cost of pnly Florial and possibly a throw in type spec, there is very little risk, especially when you factor in Taillons upside. Taillion had his TJS back in July of 19 so he should be fully recovered, so why couldn't he give the Yanks 150 INs plus? He threw 191 INs , had a 3.20 ERA and a 4.7 WAR in 2018, so he certainly has had an elite season. If healthy he has the stuff to be a TORP even though thats not what role the Yanks would be acquiring him to fill. Low Risk, even with the cost in specs, with a high upside, exactly what the Yanks are looking for
You keep acting like the Yanks plan on spending freely this winter, Kluber and Paxton could cost in the 6-12m salary range, not counting incentives, so there is absolutely risk there. The Yanks seem like they are more willing to make trades then spend on the FA market. They are dumpster diving this winter not shopping at the top of the market. If there goal is to keep payroll under the luxury tax and resign DJ they are going to have to do some serious bargain hunting to fill out the rotation and BP
We already see the direction they are going with the BP, Cortez, Warren, a guy who hasn't been good in 2 yrs and from reports a possible reunion with Drob.
If they are going that cheap in the BP, when there are so many other top relievers available for way under market value, its unlikely they are going to spend much to fill out that rotation. I would guess they are planning on, If they resign DJ, spending less than 15m and i'm probably being generous, to fill out the rest of the rotation. That doesn't leave alot of high end options that don't come with a big risk
Alex Reyes from the Cards is another bounce back candidate that the Yanks should definitely look into. Hes got one of the better FBs in baseball and has some decent secondary stuff. If he can figure it out again as a starter he would easily be a TORP for us and if he can't he's already proven to be a dominant reliever. STL has always liked Andujar, I think Reyes plus a lottery ticket might be a fair swap
I don't know about that one. TJ surgery, Surgery for a tendon in his lat. A pectoral tear. To me, I see that as significant and revolving around his delivery.
The TJ was the start and that isn't a big issue for a kid who throws like
To me, it's the lat tear, (yin aspect) followed by the pec injury (yang aspect) are compensating for something in the shoulder. There is something about his delivery that is going to be problematic.
He also has a ton of walks.
I live Andujar way too much to risk on a guy like him. Tallion, I agree. But not Alex Reyes.
Did you see any of the commonalty regarding him a few years ago when the Sox got Sale?
I can gladly say, I among others were adamant that Q was not an ace in the making and the Yankees would be foolish to trade the farm for him. We were lambasted with stats and proof that he was an Ace.
A few proud resistors suggested he was a TORP guy and would be a great 2 (which was his role then) but not an Ace. Sorry, I reminisce and digress.
With that said, for cheap and as a back-middle rotation guy? Yeah. I'd consider him for sure. Aside from his thumb accident, he's durable. He's got a heavy sinker and some decent stuff.
I agree with Day about Tallion but not as much about Paxton of Kluber. Q is younger and has much less of an injury track record than Pax or Kluber.
The Yankees will have about 10 mill or so to spend if they resign dj . Dj likely won’t cost more than 20 mill . So signing kluber to an incentive contract for nor more than 8 to 10 mill before incentives makes ALOT of sense . His last contract was half a million this past season . And with the depressed market it is highly unlikely he gets more than 8to 10 mill. To me he is the perfect low risk high reward pitcher to go after . That just makes more sense than to trade for a guy who ‘s future is likely in the bullpen since most pitchers who get TJ end up in the bullpen , especially after two TJS in 5 years . One good season doesn’t mean he is a proven torp starting pitcher at all . While kluber just 2 years ago pitched 200 innings .

“We’re working on it. I promise you that. He is this winter’s priority.” - Brian Cashman, on DJ LeMahieu
Brian Cashman said that he wants DJ LeMahieu to play second base. He said that he is not trying to trade Luke Voit with the idea of moving LeMahieu to first base.
Brian Cashman said he gets "a lot of calls" from teams interested in trading for Mike Tauchman.
Brian Cashman said that he sees Gary Sanchez as the "heir apparent" as the Yankees' starting catcher to open 2021.
The Yankees have expressed interest in Ryne Stanek, a former Rays reliever who spent the last two seasons with the Marlins.
Heir apparent to who ? Sanchez has been the starting catcher for the last 4 years . That is what expected cashman to say about Sanchez since I knew he would never trade him . Other than what he said about tauchman , The rest of what cashman said is the same bs he has been spouting for the last month now . And if he is trully getting calls about tauchman then why hasn’t he traded him yet. ? It’s not like he has great value .
I didn't realize he has had problems with both his pec and lat, that probably shuts him down as a starter. He was very impressive as a reliever last yr throwing between 99-101 for multiple innings. We need a RHed power reliver, he might be a replacement for Kahnle. If its likely he is going to stay in the pen, then i certainly wouldn't trade Andujar for him
While i agree Q doesn't have the risk that Paxton or Kluber do he doesn't have the possible upside either. Q has basically been a mid to backend starter since he's been with the Cubs. Im just not sold he's 5-10m, whatever he signs for, better than Monty, Devi, German or Schmidt who are all battling for those backend spots
Of the pitchers that ave been mentioned as possibilities I would go with Kluber first if his medicals checkout. I'm not sure if he'll ever be consistently dominate again, i think he can still be very good with flashes of his old self every once in a while. My 2nd addition would be Taillon, his low salary, cheap acquisition cost and high upside absolutely make him worth giving a shot
I agree. To me, Q isn't going to be a substantial upgrade but if healthy, he can eat innings and be a nice back end addition. Pax has the greatest upside but he's a huge risk
If Kluber is healthy, he's kind of between those two. He could be a really good 3 maybe even 2 if he's back to normal
