Headcase may be too strong a word. He clearly lacks boundaries. He's self centered and egotistical. He appears to believe his antics viewed as honesty are a pass on blatant bad behavior. Imo he could care less about BB, It's his vehicle and platform. It's his claim to fame and wealth.

The fact is that being an All-Star caliber player comes with certain responsibilities, and Bauer refuses to accept that while simultaneously presenting himself as baseball’s lone star with honesty. He thinks his “three dating rules” of no feelings, no social media but yes to him sleeping with other people makes him considerate when it’s actually misogynistic. All he’s doing, instead, is showing who he really is. SI

That said I realize the risk but he would be my first choice as the #2 behind Cole, although he would probably object to being #2 behind him! ;)

i don't know Bauer personally. It's hard to judge a book by it's cover and say he's this or that. What i do know is his teammates don't like him, by his own admission. That doesn't paint a very good picture of a man, or potential teammate. I wouldn't say that's the final word on Bauer, but his personality doesn't seem to fit well here.

The hell with how popular he is with his teammates , yanks have had players like that before without much problems . If they are truly in a win it now mode then they must go after Bauer regardless of how popular he would be in the clubhouse . He is what would put the yanks over the top right now . Abs that is what should matter the most

What about the opposite of Bauer in Darvish? Finished second to Bauer in the cy young voting, and teammates seem to love him. Cubs are looking to cut costs, and he’s signed to a very friendly (under normal circumstances) deal $22 million in 21, $19 million in 22 and $18 million in 23. Would the Cubs eat $6 million of that contract to make it even more enticing? Would they consider swapping Voit for Rizzo and agree to take back ottavino to offset some of that? Voit, Otto, Peraza for Yu and Rizzo? Peraza would allow them to let Baez walk, and lock up Bryant and Contreras long term

Yanks would have to give up a lot to get darvish but I would do it . And then use money to shore up the bullpen

There really should be an oversight committee for these voters so they can't be blatant idiots. Whoever voted DJ 8th for MVP should have their vote taken away for life.

Voit is the best hitting first baseman in the majors, the last 3 years. How does trading 4 years of control for Voit for one expensive year of rizzo, make any sense at all?

I guess winning the batting title, having the highest OPS and wRC+ really doesn't matter anymore. The only area where Abreu has the advantage is more home runs and rbis, ditto for Ramirez who was placed way higher than DJ in the voting. I'm sorry, but a first baseman with really good numbers should never beat a second baseman with better ones. Seems like there's an obvious bias when it comes to giving the mvp to yankee players.

Maybe top 5, but the point of the trade was to get Darvish.

Really not sad that DJ didn't win it-- that would have added a couple mill more per yr he could have commanded, making it even less likely Yanks could resign him.

Bauer speaks his mind and owns it. Whether or not I agree with what he says is irrelevant. I welcome that type of player. I think he is a guy who can take heat off other guys and I think he knows it and does it intentionally. He also steps in it. But he never backs down and I love that.

I agree, it is a risk. But we have seen teams who were ready to kill one another, succeed because in spite of off the field stuff, they trusted and respected each other on the field 86 mets comes to mind.

I don't think the Yankees take that risk.
I think the Mets do.

As I said, it will be great for NY baseball to have them in "silent competition", top be the best
pitcher in NYC.

The way I look at it, Bauer is a solid #1 and could very well develop into Cole 2.0. He's a fighter. Definitely can handle NY. We are win now and nobody else in the market place can give us the boost that he can. Cole, Bauer and Sevy can give us a formidable rotation for years to come and extend our window. Looking forward at the FA next season, the only interesting starter is Thor and I'm assuming the new Mets will extend him. I say go all in on Bauer.

I'd pass. Darvish turns 35 next year. Why give young assets to save a little bit of money and get an inferior product over the next 3 years.
