New York Yankees: Gio Urshela’ latest health update is extremely encouraging

The Yankees’ third baseman is already ahead of schedule
Boone explained that Urshela has been hitting off a tee, taking ground balls and throwing at the Yankees’ spring training complex. That represents tremendous progress and is an encouraging sign for the Yankees’ overall health outlook.

Actually, it appears that Urshela is progressing ahead of schedule. He should be fine for Opening Day, barring a setback, as he is, little by little, regaining his health to the delight of the team.

I would have liked Tanaka back also on a 1 year deal for the reported 15m he was asking for.

I would like to put this on him, but it appears ownership is telling him(thus far) to stay under 210.

One can argue which move would have been better but I think between the two, he made the right decision.

I would have liked all 3, personally.

You think this is this true? I can't imagine the 4M extra for Tanaka would have meant they couldn't have afforded Tallion. Seems like BS.

Well at the time that 4 million more would have absolutely put them over the 210 threshold.

Also, they hasn't traded Otto yet so I'm not sure if that would have played a part.

Don't shoot the messenger! :D

What I do believe, Hal is dead serious about holding the line. Cashman is working within the guidelines to fill out a rotation that saw several holes develop.

Oh not, not attacking you. Just asking. I just find it hard to believe if they signed Tanaka for 15M they couldn't find a few million to fit Tallion as well. And yeah, it seems like Hal was serious in the past too then eventually blew by it again. The Yankees are absolutely screwing themselves. They screwed their self with Stanton's contract and now by not going for it when their window is the most open it'll ever be.

Arenado just got traded to the Cardinals and the Rockies threw in $50 million, but no other details released.

Yanks should call up Colorado and see what it would take to get Gray for the rotation and givens for the bullpen.

Gray is owned 6 and is a free agent at end of 2022, givens is owed 4 mil and is also a free agent at end of 2022.

Maybe throw some better prospects in there to get them to eat some money.

Maybe andujar in the package as well, to play third for them since they just traded their third baseman.

i don't think they went in on Kluber thinking, oh, it'll take 11 million to sign him. There was more or less a bidding war for Kluber and I think the yankees got swept up in it. They were even outbid by another team. I think overall, it was a good gamble, in spite of the injuries. If Kluber returns to form, and Taillon can be another Cole, then the yankees will have an amazing rotation, far better than any they've had in a very long time.

It's not like a prediction or anything, but if it happens, then how can you argue the caliber of rotation we'd have? Besides, that was Taillon's pedigree when he was drafted, to be a number 1. Not really unrealistic, at all, if he can get past his health issues and pitches to his natural ability.

It is very unrealistic. Sure, it's great to be hopeful and positive and all that, but come on.

Good for.Cashman for taking that stance and not coddling him. Pena and Girardi were tough on him and that's when he put up his best results

One of the big reasons Boone was brought in was to be better communicating with the young core, specifically Sanchez. That has worked well 👏

Atleast we have 3-4 very promising C specs in Aball or higher. I'm still very hopeful that we get to see vintage Sanchez again... dude was a beast in 16-17

Or else they trade Sanchez for Gray and Givens with the Rockies saving $4 million and the Sanchez hits 60 HRs for them in Colorado and becomes a Legend. I looked up their 2021 roster and they have one catcher, who had 39 AB last season in 46 games , so he's obviously a defensive replacement late in games.

Not sure how Yadier Molina fits into the Yankees salary structure or whether they could do a blockbuster trade with the Indians for Roberto Perez (perhaps Frazier, Andujar and/or others).

Gardner, Tauchman, Frazier or Andujar (whichever is not traded, unless both are traded in the deal), Allen, Stanton (maybe), Wade (maybe), Florial, other minor leaguers and (even) LaMachine, if he had to do it. The point is that we have lots of OFs and can get more if we want them.

Allen is not a staring outfielder, not even a 4th outfielder, might be a 5th, if Yanks decide to carry 5, plus Stanton.
BTW, anyone heard what the roster size wil be this year? I ask because everyone is saying how teams wii need 6 or 7 starters since no one pitched even 100 innings in '20.

Nelson is one of the big reason why the Yanks haven't looked for a more established BP because they are expecting big things from him

Curve:

Slider:

As we saw last yr the FB command was a little erratic last yr but he throws it in the high 90s.

Let hope between Nelson, Abreau, Krispe and Lasagna atleast 2 of them have a solid yr next yr

Sounds like Bauers market is basically down to the Mets and maybe the Dodgers. There was a report earlier that the Dodgers were looking into trading Price to get some extra room under the CBT.

It'll be interesting to see who much he gets if thats what his market is. I can't see such a smart team like the Dodgers, especially when they already have a strong rotation, being willing to pay him anything close to the Cole AAV he is looking for

They might do that if it was on a 2-3 year contract.

We'll do the boys again. Cashman has a lot of work to do this winter to potentially beat Tanaka, Paxton and Hap. How much BP help do we need?

I think it was johnnyi, although i could be mistaken, who used to claim, how dumb Sanchez was. I'm not certain if they meant, as a person or player. I was indifferent to this statement at the time, but Gary's recent comments about not knowing why he was benched seem to confirm that claim, almost as a statement of fact now. If by some miracle Gary puts up a monster year the yankees need to trade him immediately.

The person who claims that Sanchez is ''dumb'' is a particular poster who reports people for ...dumb... reasons and then cries it is a ''family forum'' yet uses words like dumb to describe someone. It's certainly ironic.

yeah i could see someone giving him 2yrs 75m which would get him past Coles AAV. Last i heard was he looking for a 4-5yr deal and i just don't think his market is going to develop enough to get him the deal he's looking for.

If he does end up on either the Mets or Dodgers that is going to make either of their rotations very, very tough

Yeah i didn't put much stock in that either until Gary's recent comments. If he really didn't know why he got benched, WOW, he maybe a little slow.

If he does put up a monster season i agree that they should try to capitalize on that and look to move him. That would be the perfect opportunity for them to try and bring in some young talent to help build the next core.

Slick is correct about the poster. There is an entire thread regarding that topic.

I don't think anyone accused Sanchez of being a Rhodes Scholar but those comments were either a lie or he is dumber than anyone including chuck, thought.

I fully agree. If he restores his market value, trade him ASAP.
