Yankee off season thread, news, notes, rumors and ideas

Yankees have won 27 championships and appeared in the WS 40 times! This is far and away the most championship victories of any franchise in baseball—and sports—history.

Maybe the naysayers, complainers and Negative Nancy's should take up residence on the boards of the teams listed below, then maybe just maybe the *****ing and moaning might have some merit. I agree 11 years is a long time in Yankee fan universe, but NEVER is much longer!
Tampa Bay Rays
Colorado Rockies
Seattle Mariners
Milwaukee Brewers
San Diego Padres
Texas Rangers

None of those teams have the financial resources that the Yankees have though. So to even compare their droughts to the Yankees is just moving the goal posts at best

Droughts? You are too kind. How about NEVER!

To be honest Mariners, Rangers, Rockies and Padres ain't exactly poor, most in the upper half of MLB value. In fact the only team on that list well below league averages in payroll and net are the Rays. To suggest Yankees financial clout insures anything is blatantly absurd. Most if not all rules instituted since 1995 have been an attempt to nullify or at the least mitigate Yankees financial advantage. What may have been true in the 60's and 70's is no longer the case.

Yes I can. It hasn’t led to a title, and there are moves I would’ve done differently but to suggest they haven’t done a lot right is just silly

I would sign Bauer to begin with . Then resign dj . Then I would trade for some bullpen help . And I would trade Sanchez , andujar and some prospects for said bullpen help . And yes I would let both Tanaka and Paxton walk too .

OK You are now the unofficial GM of the NY Yankees. Here's the situ:

According to Cot’s, the Yankees currently have $135,217,000 already committed in payroll for next season.
According to MLBTR you have an estimated 46.2M in arbitration raises coming due. A grand total of $181.42M.Subtract that from the $210 million luxury tax threshold this upcoming season, and you get $28.58M to work with. Your owner has told you again to hold the line on the luxury tax threshold.

How do you manage to sign both Bauer and DJ on roughly $28M? And you haven't addressed the BP yet.

Even if you jettison Sanchez ($5M) and Andular (617K) that is still only an additional $6M to play with and you will need another catcher.

ps. Sanchez still has two years of control.

Torres? Right
Ursh? Right
Sanchez? Miss
Judge? Right
Hicks? Middle of the road
Frazier? Right
Stanton? Miss

So your starting lineup has 2 misses out of 9...

Cole? Right
Tanaka? Right
Happ? Miss
Paxton? Miss
I’m going to say that the rest of the starters are too young to fairly judge, although I’m leaning to calling Sevy right. I’d also say Monty is right FWIW

Chappy? Right
Britton? Right
Green? Right
Otto? Miss
Kahnle? I could make a case either way, but I’ll say miss for arguments sake

So pitching wise, at worst 5 right 4 misses with an argument for 7 and 4.

Please explain to me how they haven’t done a lot right? No, they haven’t won it all but don’t act like we are a bottom feeder that starts the year with no chance

Looking at that, I just don’t see a path to get there while improving on what we currently have. Can you convince DJ to take $20 million and Morton to take $8?

It would be a tough sell. But I think if Yankees went for more years than they would like, say 5 with an option he may bite. At 37 I really would steer clear of Morton, but he might take 8M on a one year deal.

I think a 37 year old Morton is still better than most of the FA pitching options, especially if you factor in the price. Odorizzi for $8?

Even though I think Sanchez sucks now I would not call him a miss. Most IFAs don't even make the big leagues. At least he was legitimately great at times. Kahnle too, he was excellent for the most part. Tough to predict pitching injuries because most of them get hurt at some point.
